The immigration issue in LA has been a problem for black people for decades. We let them move into our communities, refuse to hire us for work and now when McDonald's has job opportunities we can't even get them because we do not speak Spanish. This is not the time to be PC, this is the time to be honest and protect what little we have. Stand together and start to build together.

I'm only in two minutes and on the most trivial level I admire Ana already for not flipping her hair around, running her hands through her hair, and not generally fussing about appearance like Ann is.
In Brazil you dont get a job if you dont speak spanish, in England or Germany you dont get a job if you dont speak french, and so on.
You make borders with a spanish speaker country, deal with it.
I guess Ann was trying to say was why it matters to speak Spanish just to get a job at McDonald’s. She was saying it’s mainly black neighborhoods who experience this. If you’re not interested in learning a language, why should you be compelled to? Why not learn a language for fun?

That's because she's referring to the country, not the continent. The United States was created in spite of the Native Americans, and actively sought not only to deny them citizenship but their existence within the country as well. It was also very much biracial in the sense that only people from"white" countries (and this is when the social construct of whiteness was still being refined, so that was a very wide variety of countries) and black slaves could legally go there. Up until the 1960s, the percentage of Americans who were neither white nor black was less than 5% of the total population. You need to remember that Native Americans were not "people" - let alone citizens - in the eyes of the US Government for a very, very long time.

Also, when the US 'bought' off land from Mexico - it came with people living there, so of course there are, and should be, people who speak Spanish.

A white woman from a white neighborhood in LA should have a different opinion because a white woman from a white neighborhood will not see her children burdened with an added barrier to employment the way a black woman in a black neighborhood would. And even if employment for her children did require them to be bilingual, it's far, far easier for an affluent child to attain fluency in another language than a poor child. That's the whole problem with her stance. She is speaking as someone who does not and will not have to deal with the issues she's referring to, and underestimates just how difficult those barrier can be to overcome for some people. It comes from a place a serious privilege and frankly just stupidity.
I'm not promoting or decrying capitalism, I'm pointing out the obvious flaw in her argument. Her response to Coulter's comment was simply ridiculous and spoke to how insular her perspective is. And a truly just education system would educate newcomers of the language of the people who already live in a neighborhood, not burden the people already there with becoming bilingual when they already suffer from extraordinary disadvantages to employment to begin with. Expecting other people to undergo learning a new language when her own children never will is hypocritical.

Yeahhhhhhh that's actually debatable. The predictions that white people would become a minority in ~2050 were made five years ago, before the latino immigration plummeted and before the latino and black birth rates plunged to converge with the white rate, which is basically what they're both at now. They also assume that immigration levels will remain at what they are now, which is unlikely.
But more importantly though, that assumes that latinos and hispanics won't themselves begin to identify as white as time goes on, which is wrong. Whiteness and race are social constructs, not biological imperatives. Whiteness has no ethnic boundaries. Italians, Southern Europeans, and Irish people were all "non-whites" that were discriminated against when they first arrived in America in large numbers, and all have ascended the ladder to become both culturally and demographically "white". When you're talking about latinos and hispanics, these are groups that already have high rates of intermarriage with white people. There's also the fact that many hispanics are already regarded as white. Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Aubrey Plaza and Louis CK are all "hispanic" under the census, but we all know they're white. I'm of hispanic heritage from Argentina but here in America I identify as white.

No one is forcing anyone to learn Spanish but, just like Ana says, in a free market the most skilled worker is likely to get hired. Being bilingual is a skill. Also, no one is changing the official language of this country because there is no official language.

Just find it also fucked up that the Spaniards were the first Europeans to sail to what would become the United States...And that the Mexican Empire included modern day California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, and parts of several other states, until the Mexican-American War in the mid-1800's. And Ann Coulter feeds that dialogue that Latino/as are "running across the border," and "arrived yesterday, or last week."
The roots of Mexican culture run just as deep in the US as any other white European culture.

I work with people from all over the world and they did the homework to learn English to work here. With that said, if people from all over can learn English from TV, will it kill us Americans to learn a lil Spanish? I'm a lil mixed on the MC Donalds issue.

Well, while I can appreciate your sentiment, as black person, my aim is to be and remain viable and intelligent, so as not to be a burden on any society.
The employer will be likely to hire a higher skilled worker, rightfully so, when there's a choice but nobody is forcing anyone to "LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE". This applies for everyone, immigrants don't have to learn English if they don't want to but at the same time no one owe's them anything when they can't get a job for not knowing the language.
About multi-language customer services, if providing the needs for more people improves the business, companies will try to do it. It's a simple business choice. What's wrong with that?

I understand where Ann is coming from. 10 years ago, my town had very few Hispanics; now, the Hispanic population probably tripled/quadrupled because I hear Spanish everywhere I go. And when I apply for jobs, "Spanish preferred" is always a requirement. So if I have the same qualifications as someone else but they speak Spanish, I won't have a job. And yes, I can always learn a language...but to become fluent is something else.

I remember my mom taking me after school to different family's apartments to translate letters for them in Spanish. Back then ppl PAID to learn English back then through Video cassette tapes. I speak 3 languages and know basic sayings in 6, and have travelled much. When you set your feet in a country, anywhere, you learn the language ASAP out of respect. YOU are the foreigner. With the exception of Puerto Rico. And no I'm not Puerto Rican. They became citizens for the bodies in WWII
