Making a game a day is a really cool concept! I’m currently working on designing a game of my own and I’d love to know how you come up with concepts to fit in theme and how you land on what mechanics to include

@@isaackandel6591 Thanks! I might try and do a video explaining my process a bit more, but the time lapse you see at the bottom of each video is the entirety of my process for these jams. Usually I just start brainstorming how to fulfill the 3 stipulations and just go with whatever seems fun. I play lots of new (to me) games all the time to get inspiration and I’ll often borrow basic concepts/mechanics from games I’ve played, but sometimes solving the problem of making a stipulation work gets more experimental. Hopefully that kinda makes sense :)
There are lots of different ways that I’ll approach a design. Sometimes it’s theme first and figuring out what mechanics make sense and feel thematic, but other times I’ll really want to use a certain mechanic or two and I use that as inspiration to create a story (theme) around it.

Really like the deseign behind not being able to switch gear as we want, neat idea, that was a clever use of the theme.
During your playtest (if there was) did you manage to make player make different decision? Maybe i'm overthinking it but i feel like they may end up in similar situation.
But in the same time, the way of how energy work seem to fix this.

@shael4866 Thanks! I’ve only run a couple of playtests solo, but the energy mechanism and the dice draft are the intended ways to add variance to the player’s setups. It’s certainly possible I should have more dice, more drafting, and less shared dice to accentuate this. This is definitely one I’d want to playtest a lot more.
