Good morning. Happy Holiday Season! Jim, as a retired carpenter, it freaks me out watching you use your skillsaw. It's very unsafe to make your cut in-between the saw horses. It creates a pinch point, and can cause kickback. As a rule, the piece being removed should be outside the saw horse. For small pieces make horses into table with a piece of ply and cut off the edge. Just want you to be safe.
Max had a tumor removed last year it grew pretty quickly with in a month it bled all the time he felt so much better after. He was 14 when he had surgery he did good no complications.
STRUCTURAL PROBLEM!! Love your channel for years now❤so I have to give a little love back with over 4 decades of experience dealing with unconventional structural issues. It's a simple fix to remedy the structural failure issue that caused the unfortunate collapse on the first build. Take some 5/4" x 6" PT deck boards and starting from the full diameter in the middle, screw a 5/4" board across under all of your joists joining them together. As you add boards across while working your way to the ends on both sides of the centerpiece you started with. Basically, you're just reinforcing the bridging between the joists that you have already installed and which previously failed to keep the underside of the joist-bridging connection together when the dirt wall gave way to flooding water. Next time these reinforcements will keep the bridging between the joists from "SEPARATING" and if you seal the outer rim from water getting in, and "relaxing the dirtbags supporting the wood members above". Next time you can put your attention on the other structures that may have problems in a future flood event. 🙏I hope this gets to you and you understand the concept, If not, no worries, I'm happy to clarify💛💛💛
I'm glad to know that Crew's surgery was successful and he is doing well. The root cellar roof is coming along nicely. Can't wait to see you top it off and put the door on. Keep up the good work!
@@caroleberthieryes, but with hurricane force winds during monsoon season, without being tied down to the ground, it will move and there will be leaks, and rain inside their root cellar. 🙄
Once I anchored down my mobile home down it doesn't shake or move in high winds its like it's glued solid to the ground. All it is is cork screw poles screwed into the ground attached to metal straps attached to the trailer.
I would think about securing droppers on the inside then pin them into the lower sand bags. Otherwise angled pins into natural ground on the outside, maybe star pickets.
I hope Chris is doing okay you guys are so awesome I'm so proud of you all the work that you've done all by yourself and your brother and what little help you've had it is starting to look really like your home now it's beautiful I can't wait to see it finished love you guys
Yup hard plaster like they use from broken bone cast would make that hot bench really POP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd work on the stair roof and wall in at the same time as the floor joist. Just to keep any heavy rain from flowing down the stairs. Kill two birds with one stone. Or put a board dam in front. To redirect the water around.
Hint Hint applying a compacted sand and hard plaster cast to the floor keeps the ground moisture down from coming through.👉👉Hint to Crews growth was probably caused during Uvea and his first meeting when she DID bite his right lip up causing trauma. It's the same for many animals like cattle. Some people HAVE expienced this from a simple procedure as an ear piecing. Where the ear lob becomes deformed by the same benign trauma cancer.
Great news about Crew! Glad that he is doing well! ❤🙏 I will be praying for Crew to make a full recovery! You guys make such a great team together! It all looks so good. ATB to you and your family. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Rob
People the root cellar will be under there second part of the earth bag home then they will have a pass through that’s why it’s flat no pitch for roof because it’s the floor of the second part of home he has said it lots of time even said it at the beginning of video so there gonna be lots of weight to hold it down it won’t be going nowhere
I got a tip for a circular saw, and the table saw, set the blade, no more than width, or less. One reason is safety. Second is efficiency. Less power wasted, the battery lasts longer, cooler blades, easier to push through. Really noticable on wet, treated lumber. While I was piling up boards, the kid was starting a fire with his saw. And a feather board, for the long kerfs.
I love you guys and how brave you are to do what you are doing!!! After seeing the joists going on the cellar made me think what a floor it would make for another room of some sort! I know that’s not your plan, I’m always seeing things as potential. Good to hear about Crew. Thank you for bringing us on your journey.
Be sure to put blocks on the floor joists onto of the earth bags so no animals craw under and get in the area. Don't need a skunk home. It's looking great!
I am from rainy Oregon, I would not have leveled the roof but do a slight angle so the rain runs off on to where you want it to run. I think its crazy that people want perfectly level decks, instead of having a slight downhill tilt so that the rain can run off.
Hey how you doing today hope you guys having a wonderful day keep up the good work and how hard a little buddies doing okay so I guess have a great day and God bless you guys we be praying for you you doing okay Jim okay keep up the good work and God bless you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
VERY relieved to hear about Crew. Excited to see how you're finishing up the roof of the cellar! Are you gonna catch a gopher snake to live down there to keep rodents down?
So relieved to hear that crew is doing good and the prognosis appears to be good as well. He will be in my prayers, and you guys are really making a lot of progress on the root cellar.😊
As an architect, I am advising you to anchor the roof joists to the earthbags. A bad storm with high winds or even a level 1 tornado has the force to lift the roof off. Possibly one solution could be to drill holes into the earthbags and grout anchor bolts in with concrete grout and clamp down the plywood anchor plates once the grout has cured. Would hate to see you encounter another major setback, like a roof failure, on the root cellar.
I am so glad for yall and your animals. I am so glad that Crew is doing better and I prayed for yall . Yall are doing a good job on the Root Seller and everything else . Happy Holidays. Be blessed and safe . Miss . Linda ❤🙏🏽🌲🎅🎵❤
I'm curious as to why you wouldn't have a bonding beam around the top of this structure? If you were unaware, even earth ships finish with a bonding beam. Earth bags need this when not domed.
Old brick and mortar buildings, had through bolts, from one side, to the other, and had ornamental, plates, washers, and nuts, holding from the outside.
Greetings, I just lost my oldest black lab @6 months ago, I lost her to cancer. The percent of pets that get cancer has skyrocketed!!? I love your rocket heater stove, you done good on that one! I remember mom sending me to the root cellar to get something, I'd always take a big swig of chokecherry juice, those were the days. My oldest lab now is missing her back leg but gets around great, well shes is getting old too but does good. Prayers for your four legged relative, I hope all goes well. Ohan Mitakuyaoyasin ( we are all related)
It’s neat to see your efforts and results. Love the rocket stove installation and comfort recycling the fires exhaust. Learning terms of function with your roof build. Wouldn’t a slanted roof direct runoff ? Will stay tuned of course. Best wishes for the magic of the season to insulate and support you all.
Jim. Builders wear their tool belt with the pockets at your back. It frees up bending over and makes it easier to reach nails and screws. Just like getting something out of your back pocket. I've hammered many floor joists and plywood decking this way. Works much better.
Its just been cold enough to use the fireplace every day. 53 high mid 30s at night Just making ya, burn wood, to keep the chill out of the house... I heard dogs life expectancy, is on average, two years less, because of someone's second hand smoke, exposing them to carcinogens. I live in a tower, with 119 apartments, the gazebo is winterized, and after their pets are walked, they hang out for about an hour smoking cigarettes and cigars. Several lumps and growths, on the pups.
Whenever you are in town you ought to be on the lookout for scrap pallets. Lots of free lumber for your heating. Wishing you and your family a blessed holiday season, gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings together. Peace
Jim and Jess, Wishing you both a very Merry Christmas, May Gods Blessings Shine Down on you guy throughout the New Year, and May both dogs stay healthy and happy....🎄🕊️🙏
