Saw him in 1979 in Md. theatre in the round & I was blown away . Copeland brilliant drumming and Sting and Andy Summers were masters ! They played for almost 4 hours and enjoyed every minute! Left their songs echoing in my head all night ! Fan forever!
The segway to Walking on the Moon is quite jazzy, nice shifts from the pianist. Dominic is excellent, and has always brought something new to Sting's sound, although Andy is the reigning heavyweight champion.
As a youth the music from late 70s all way to the 80s struck hard ,filled with talent, band's unforgettable special times, very special.....NEVER forget how the 80s defined all what has a meaning.................................................
the Unplugged franchise did an amazing job when recording the live shows. Eric Clapton'S Unplugged is engineered so well, you can hear Clapton's feet dancing as he plays.
Such imagery, so intimate, so guiding, Tea in the Sahara grants an invitation of simplicity and grace, genius for my loves, tea, dunes, melody, comforting, mysterious, exciting as enveloping as a cup a Tea to seek into!
I remember the first time this aired on mtv. I was hypnotized. I had already seen this line-up in concert a couple of months before, so to see them up close and in this setting was amazing.
Sting is a brilliant musician no doubt, there will never be someone quite like him, but there are definitely plenty of musicians who don't use auto-tune today. Check out Esperanza Spalding
Una interpretación muy bella, aunque debo admitir que no se siente la misma atmósfera con la batería de Stewart en los coros y las notas místicas de Andy con su guitarra.
I too have always thought Sting (and a few others) have a natural gift for making music, GOOD music. I'm sure he would disagree but who else could use Mephistopheles in the lyric of a song, and make it sound...right? He's left his mark in the annals of popular music--and he should be proud of himself. One of my favorite musicians ever
I think Sting always had this sort of complexity and depth. The Police was Stewart Copeland's band, and Copeland wanted to rock. They fought over it often, but if you listen to them chronologically, they get jazzier as time goes on (as Sting influenced the band more and more with his own style). He's always been extremely picky about lyrics (hence why Copeland or Andy Summers had to sing a few songs). I agree with the comment about Sting and Collins being genius, though.
@@bobinchainz Dominic Miller has released numerous albums of instrumental music. It is worth checking out, I have seen him live 2 times with his band. Just visit dominicmiller.com
A friend of mine at CALARTS once remarked "How did he (Sting) go from "Roxanne" to this?" level of complexity and depth? Another friend of mine in S Carolina (Jimmy Zellus) once declared that there are a few musical geniuses left..Sting, Prince, Phill Collins to name a few." This is after Kurt kiled himself. I agree with my friends..I'm just a roadie :)
Is the original footage available to see anywhere? This digital reduction stuff makes me just want to listen to it. which i happen to do often. Perhaps an improved resolution through technical means if the original is not available?
I'm just a fan of instrumentation at times not the musical celebrity that we have today. Hell being a roadie and working the sound board involves alot of baby sitting of the band members anyways.
I wonder if there is anyone out there who is listening to this piece of real music in 2023?
Yesss
I am and I'm playing along to it since it keeps my chops on guitar sharp.
Damn straight.
yep, getting closer to 2020 too. They play real instruments. just wow.
yes i have been and still and i will but im looking for another acoustic version i heard years ago accidently can't find it on youtube
One of Sting's best unplugged lives, rock, jazz, reggae are elegantly and sensitively melted together. Music reaches us over the border. Thanks,
That is his greatest achievement..melting musical genres and combine it with pop elements..still Sound great after nearly 40 years!!
This song comes out of your heart and soul ...
The piano and drum interplay is amazing.
Sting - nothing more to say but only this:
he is one of the greatest!
Remember watching this live. Thought it was the greatest MTV unplugged song ever.
Totally agree 💯👍
I listen to this when I exercise in the pool. With the doves cooing in the oak trees. My big Bangor cat sprawled on my towel. And wind in the palms.
Sheer heaven- "Tea in the Sahara" is probably my favorite song of his. Such beautiful nuances. The mood is rich & exotic.
the thing with Sting, is that his voice itself is another instrument, and so, the music can be simple and uncluttered, yet still be alive.
What a fantastic voice sting has.

Lucky you got to see them live...my one regret
The segway to Walking on the Moon is quite jazzy, nice shifts from the pianist. Dominic is excellent, and has always brought something new to Sting's sound, although Andy is the reigning heavyweight champion.
This version of this amazing song is magical! After so many years it just gets better!
Poetry, an original voice, a great melody... Sting
Best unplugged imo. I mean...wow. Sting is relaxed, the groove is chill, and the band may be the single best assembly of musical talent ever.
The Very Best of MTV Unplugged
This is my favorite song, and this version took me away...further. #Sting

modern music doesn't get much better than this.
Inspired songwriting on this one. Magical and mysterious.
The fucking feeling was so deep it made me cry. Perfect.
@ Oscar: I know what you mean.
Sting is unsurpassed but hear what sound it brings out of that old chello, Dominic bravissimo at the guitar.❤️👏👍
This is recorded so well...you can hear every note, every breath.

Cool version of Tea in the Sahara. I was listening to the original and came to see this. What a depressing and sad song.
_Two of my Favs Police songs, so Beautiful, Touching,_ *PERFECT!*
now that's real music, damn Sting is good
One of his best.
Finally my first favorite off the Synchronicity album. Live! Ty
Listen to that voice. No auto-tune just straight up singing into a mic. Band, Vinnie, ect aside there is no voice this amazing today.
Sting is a brilliant musician no doubt, there will never be someone quite like him, but there are definitely plenty of musicians who don't use auto-tune today. Check out Esperanza Spalding
Gorgeous. Sensitive performance. Simply gorgeous...
Sting is a wonder to behold 🙏👋💖 What a performance OMG !! I' M GETTING TEARED UP.💖🌹

Smooth & incredible... Of course
YES!! Oh man! I love this MAN!!
Yeah man...........
Yeah! 🎼🎹🎵🎶
This is the best version of both songs!
Vinnie Colaiuta incredibile alla batteria... che classe, ma tutto il gruppo è fantastico e poi Sting irraggiungibile...
Thanks for posting these! I've been waiting for years for MTV (or whoever owns the rights to these now!) to release this on CD or DVD. Great stuff!
This is just awesome !!! 💜💜💜
Magnificent 😊😊😊
Just gives you chills.
The words to this song make you feel like you should be riding a camel wearing white linen heading to the mosque.
brilliant, simply brilliant very subtle very sensitive
always pass me gooseflesh when I hear this song

Yeah, he had his own " Jazz-Fusion" group when Stewart Copeland "hired" him !!
Phil Collins ?
Hypnotic... Always...
De lo bueno lo mejor.
Artista incomparable.
Único
I remember ,tea in the Sahara , was played on One of the episodes of Miami Vice
Pure Art 🎭🎨❤.
This is how Tea in the Sahara should be sung. It's always too fast with the Police in concert. Well done.
Police songs with virtuos drummer. Amazing Vinnie Colaiuta 🤘😎🎶
Awesome.
Amo demais❤
Tea in the Sahara inspired by a chapter in Paul Bowles brilliant novel The sheltering sky
