I used to use miracle-gro years ago on my pots of annual's and yes you get great blooms but the problem is aphids. They are attracted to the high nitrogen content in miracle-gro. Now I feed my annuals with tomato feed once a week and the aphid problem has been solved.

Great video Catherine! I actually recently bought my first flowers (carnations) and I’m actually having quite a hard time! They seem to keep dying and I know that the pot drains well and that the soil stays at an appropriate level. I’ve also pruned off many dead flowers and bulbs and it seems like the plant keeps getting crispy tips and dying bulbs! I really have no clue what I’m doing wrong! I would really appreciate your input, and thanks for your time!

I am offering encouragement to keep trying. Now is the time to experiment and see what you can learn- even if you're not successful in the end. Seems like it could be consistency of watering, like maybe they're drying out too much perhaps?

Thank you, I’m new to this, my Marigolds we’re looking really nice when I got them. The Sun finally came out and we had an 87 day, now most of them look burnt 🤷🏿‍♂️

Keep at it. The most experienced gardeners have killed thousands of plants and learned from it. You're just working on your green thumb.

I have flower pots that are 3.5 ft tall. We put 2 ft of gravel in the base and soil on top. The gravel was to ensure the pots didn't blow over in our gusty winds. We do not have holes on the bottom. My flowers are definitely struggling even tho I do all of the suggestions. Do you think the problem is that we don't have drainage holes?

It's definitely possible. It's very important that there's enough gas exchange so the roots have plenty of oxygen. Do you have other pots with drainage that are performing well? That might be a good way to test the theory.

Hi Jake, I just got busy and had to set some other priorities higher. I hope to do some more now that I have done more time.

My pot only has one big whole in the middle,?

That’s ok as long as it has at least one drainage hole. Any number is ok, but at least one is essential.
