When I was in college I played the "Tea for the Tillerman" album so much I wore it out and had to buy a second one. 50 years on and I still listen to it. Thanks Yusuf for a gift that has lasted a lifetime.
I had to chuckle. Same for me too.
lol I just posted same above. Wore it out first year. Still know every word of every song in the order they came. 50 years plus and sooo good to hear him still.
I had to replace both "Teaser and the Fire Cat" and "Tea for the Tillerman" albums because I played them so often. Now, at 73, they still touch me deeply.
@@Territums Yep, word for word, know them all by heart.
Isn't it great! That's the beauty of music. It never leaves our minds.
You can learn about 90% of what it means to be a good person simply by listening to Cat Stevens songs.
This is my favorite comment here.
Agree 💯
@jonathanbirch2022why?
@jonathanbirch2022 where has he been homophobic
so true
In the early 70s I couldn't stop listening to Cat Stevens: his music was food for my soul. Little did I know that 50 years it was going to be even more so.
Truth
I never stopped listening from 1971 to 2020.
Rod Luftalchimist - 🇦🇺 I’m hearing you brother ! I owned this on vinyl ! ( and I had Peace Train on a 45 ) 😜
still works!
Here we are for a short visit. Find some grace. Tears of 80 plus billion.
That song is timeless. His music is for all of us. Now more so than ever.
Such is the power of eternal word and melody of Cat Islam / Yusuf Stevens
Do you realize how much the human condition has benefited from the industry of modern man in the last seven decades? We have been taken out of poverty by modern man and his industry. And because of that, we have too many people on the earth so you think. And all you do is complain. I guess the solution is to kill more people so the earth can be made whole?
I just listened to this version and thought the exact thing, while agree with Kathy to a degree, in the way that there have been so many positive advances, I have to say that this song was pretty prophetic. The scaryt thing is the line "will you tell us when to live, will you tell us when to die." and think af the advancement in eugenics, abortion an euthanasia. The song was released in 1970. Roe v Wade 1973. 2019 Maine becomes the 9th state to allow euthanasia.
so true!
@@kathymayes4290 "Taken out of poverty" lol. A few million each generation gain wealth off the backs of others while billions die from famine, disease, suicide, and addiction. Sure. This is great.
Most underrated artist of all time
@Grey Wolf, in what universe?! He was one of the biggest stars in the 70's! He had a movie with his songs from "Tea for the Tillerman" worked into it... "Harold and Maude." He even had a cameo in the movie. He sold out at concerts back then and when he was able to come back in 2014 (+/-), again, he sold out at his concerts. I saw him in 2016 at the Pantages here in So. Cal. Sold out shows and tickets were not cheap. The man is, was and always will be an icon with his music, and a mentor to me and with my music. Never was he underrated, NEVER!
@@Mindy0328 this one...what u don't understand is people who are in their teens, 20s, 30s some of them have no idea who he is. And when they try to regurgitate the popular opinion of the who's who from the 70s they want to list Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, CSNY...and all I'm saying is it would be great if the younger generation heard him let alone heard of him...so what that tells me is people from an older generation either didn't listen to him as frequently as others or they talked about other people....so yeah underrated.
@@Mindy0328 but you know what? We're both here jammin to a great song talking about the man. You sound like a very wise person and a person who has been touched by his music. This is the kind of music that's good for the soul, keep chilling and vibin.
I wish you nothing but the best, my Friend.
He's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! And he's awesome!
@@GreyL0B0 Thank you and you too. After I posted that, I did think about exactly what you pointed out. However, there is the internet to learn about so many things that are so important, such as the musicians of the 60's & 70's and the political impact they had on us. Even wars. If generations continue to lose sight of the past, history, can and will repeat itself. There is a 2-part series that ahs been showing on Epix called "Laurel Canyon." Cat is not in, a little before he "made" it. So many of tbe great bands and singers from then who also lived in Laurel Canyon are videoed, photographed and interviewed. An incredibly awesome series! If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend you do. I have worshiped Cat Stevens since I was a young. He is one of the most beautiful songwriter's and musicians I've ever heard. I love that he's been doing this. Thank yiu for your kind words. All the best to you as well.😊
Yusuf/Cat Stevens is a man of peace, and as I reflect back over my sixty-seven years, I am so glad he Is alive.
Respect.
Yessir!!! Much respect, indeed!!! 💖
I'm new at his music. So it's the same guy with two names right ? Very soothing vibes

He wrote THIS 50 years ago... WOW. I wish more artists had the balls to speak about social injustices.
Some do
I wish more so-called artists had the talent before claiming to be artists. Today's music sucks the sweat off a dead man's balls.
The message is clear, we have to do something now for the world, for humans, for the planet, for our children. We are running out of time so, we must decide on what we are going to leave for tomorrow.
Thank you, Cat. Thank you, Yusuf. I've always admired that you're committed to humankind.
May God bless you.
TELL ME....WHAT WILL YOU DO ? 💖
It all starts with us, as individuals, at home, I guess. Reduce, reuse, recycle, repurpose. Instead, we destroy and dispose.
You are so right. Otherwise, where will the children play?
I’ll be 64 in a few weeks, I’m still a child... I feel today I can breath a little easier. Considering I’ve Covid now, that’s saying a lot.
Our Nation and the Earths future is more important then anything else.
I hope we leave this a better place then where we were heading.
I’ll be ok, just knowing we have a chance gave me some breathing room today. This song helped as well as today being a Historic day.
Peace and good health to you all during these Happy Holidays.
A little good luck for me would be nice too.
If I have some good luck, I’ll share it with you all.
@@rjh1226 Good luck, my friend. Hope you get well soon and enjoying the Holidays. Humankind need to empathize with each other, in order to keep us humans.
For all the children and adults in isolation.
Still relevant in 2020 in more ways than one.
Cat/Yusuf spreading love and joy for generations to come.
Prince, I see it as you do.💝
The very first time I heard this song, I had come home from the store with a paper sack full of candy, and I sat down on the floor of my oldest sisters bedroom, and she had the “Tea for the Tillerman” album she had just purchased playing on her record player❤️ I’ll never forget that moment or this song✌️❤️😍🙏
Ditto, not the anecdote obviously, but the sentiment re "Tea for the Tillerman"
Those were the days! Sigh! 💖
So sweet. I’m more ways than one. 😛
😄 Beautiful.
This song was so ahead of it's time.
How relevant is this in 2023. How sad for our children.
Originally released in Nov. 1970, even more relevant today. (Wish all would have paid heed back then!) Thank you, Cat!
I think we were too young to appreciate it in the way we do now. Cat/Yusuf was ahead of his time but thankfully we still have him 💜
SOME OF US DID....💝😇🙏💖
This is even more beautiful that it was originally was. I am so grateful you came back to music. We are all better for it.
Hello how are you doing today..
Yessssss!
Agreed
Oh, man. This is so terrific. He's better than ever and the rework of the song is masterful.
spot on. a world full of garbage and discarded trash.

I so love this.. thank you for this, Yusuf....... it’s amazing but it’s so sad.

He's something else , a very relaxing voice he has

Oh yes. This is beautiful. The sound, his voice. Wonderful
I’m doin am little part trying...I hear commenting helps, i do that anyway cause it’s fun [at times😳🤬🔥💋]
Thinking of kids in lockdown in the towns and cities. Praying for you all.
I’m struggling to find the right words to describe how awesome it is to have this beautiful man and his music back in our lives again. I would love to say that I have missed him all these years, but I never stopped listening to him, and he was never more than a thought away. The only thing that we might have missed are the hundreds of songs that would have flowed from his creativity. I’m truly thankful that we’re getting a glimpse into them now.
He is the ultimate musician , been like this for over 50 years , helped a lot of lost souls .
Not really understanding why my comments have been hurt this is Carol carolee ettleman
@@CaroleOrszag-qq6wv hi Carole, I'm not sure what you're referring to, but I don't think I am part of it am I?
I wore this album out during my first year of university in 1977. I still know every word of every song and it's 50 years later. Way cool.
I love this so much. Did anyone else notice Harold and Maude at 3:26 or am I just crazy 😂
You're not crazy 😉
What a great spot! And a timeless film

OMG, thank you for pointing that out... I noticed that too !!
Sweet touch indeed 💓
'Where Do The Children Play' is a masterpiece. And one of the most beautiful songs of the last 50 years. Thank you for this immense gift for children, their parents and our planet. May this video awaken us to take good care of it again and again. Thank you so much, Yusuf.
Please don't ever stop, Cat. You have a gift and I for one am grateful that you have been sharing it for five plus decades.
At age 64 I still enjoy Cat Stevens.Brings back so many bitter sweet memories.
Only cat can do a cover of his own song.......and sounds even better today then ever........Thank you Yusuf.....rick.
Yusuf you are the epitome of kindness. You were my favourite back in the day and more so today. Im 63 and your music is timeless.
Same - literally. 👍
Same here.
This song leads me back to the boyhood that was never mine. The cat’s an abiding friend, but too cute to be lost in a doomed city.
I came looking for this song after a conversation about how the children's play areas have remained taped up - and moreso since yesterday! At first it was just the entrances, but in case children dared to play, the swings have been taped together high out of reach etc - and I find this beautiful new video. And surgical masks already cover the sea beds around our beautiful island. But Yusuf/Cat is timeless and his music and voice speak to the soul.
My mother would put Cat Stevens on the record player when I was a toddler, and she would clean the house. His voice has never failed to give me a sense of peace these 40+ years later. And to have this released on my birthday in this year of "strange" has given me some hope and peace for the first time. Thank you Yusuf, may you have a blessed day.
During these troubling times we live in, these 4 minutes refreshed my spirit and given me a big case of gratitude - thanks
My heart always beats harder when I hear this. But it’s a beat of love. Love for this man, this song and my children. 🙏🏽🌍
You’ve given new life to a classic song. Love it!
Great .... My inspiration
From Tea for the Tillerman...beautiful...and what a breath of clean air this man was back then...made us all listen..nothing has changed..respect Yusuf, peace too you..
Love that it shows the two people trying to make the world change but it wasn’t until everyone joined in that it happened. Everyone needs to do there part in educating people around them and themselves on the environment. It is so important for the future of this planet 🌏
Educate on every subject not just the environment ⚠️
True! 💯
I listen to tea for the Tillerman every night, it’s the only thing that helps me go to sleep. Thank you for all you have created.
I have listened to this to put myself to sleep, my son to sleep , at campouts, on my boat, in my car and tonight on my way to the boat when I discovered online about the remaking of Tea for the Tillerman.
They got the sun to shine again, by working together, just in time by the looks of it, shine on...
This video shows what the world has done to our fragile planet, it isn’t progress, it’s pollution. Where will the children play is indeed the question for us to ask ourselves. Very timely lyrics!
Hello how are you doing today..
Hello Lynn, how are you doing and how is the weather with you
Always one of my favourite songs. Such a powerful message that has been ignored by the big corporations who continue to destroy the Earth. We only have one Earth!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello Suzanne, how are you doing and how is the weather with you
Listened to Yusuf since I was a kid and now I’m an animator this feels even more special
I would love to see him in concert 👍
I play this album till the vinyl started to wear out. So a part 2. Please make it worthy
Very cool...:) A society should be judged on how it cares for everyone. Especially, the young, the old, and those in need. Not to mention, caring for the planet. Have a great day everyone. Smile. Lead by example.
Thank you!
And may l say, what wise words.

Sadly relevant video. One of the best albums of all time. It was before my time but I played and played my sister’s album over and over again as a child. Beautiful. Happy 50th anniversary, Yusuf.
Beloved Yusuf, you are a much needed light and hope in the world in this day and age. May you shine ever brighter.
This Was One Of My Favorites & The First 'Cover' I Learned To Play & Sing, Remade By Yusuf With Thought & Love-Even More A Song For THIS Sad Age. It Inspired A Poetic Response, Which I Include:
In Response To Yusuf/Cat Steven's Earnest Question
Where do the children play?
By thousands of sewers.
running through the mud
of shanty towns.
In meadows of imagination
beside the untiring machines
of thousands of factories.
In secret visions
dreaming beneath the earth,
or in steep pits wielding picks
and hammers to yield the earth’s bounty.
They laugh wondering at butterflies,
brightly colored blossoms, and insects
in the baking heat of the ripening fields,
chasing maimed pets and friends
among fields of land mines and the
mass graves of a hundred wars,
dodging the slings and arrows,
automatic gunfire and artillery shells,
seeing flights of angels in the thunder
fire of jets circling the burning cities.
They gaze in wonder as they stare back
into the compound eyes of the relentless
flies, while drifting to a still and final torpor
in the dust of a third world pest hole,
running…hiding among broken buildings
with wooden guns, and their parent’s words,
fighting bravely in mock battles,
until errant projectiles topple them forever.
They mostly run through the golden fields
and shining hills of heaven where it seems
to the angel of death, they arrive daily
by boatloads-these war babies.
That’s where the children play.

Oh you have no idea how much you helped my rough childhood. Your music is timeless. I’m 22 and my mother would sing your music to me in car and all the bad stuff would fall away. I didn’t really have a dad so... I had to look for father figures elsewhere. Some of it came from your music. 😊 thank you so much for leaving me some wonderful childhood memories so I can look back and find small moments of happiness.
