- It feels terrible to be underdressed at an event, and once you are there, you can elevate your appearance by how you comport yourself. In other words, "own it," carry on as if you are appropriately dressed. In the future, do some research, be confident of the expected attire, and dress accordingly.

Absolutely! Sometime invitations are not exactly clear about what you should wear. It is so much easier to ask and be sure, rather than guessing, and show up in an entirely inappropriate outfit!
