It’s been brought to my attention that the queen is always placed on her own color. In this video I made the mistake of doing it backwards. Thank you to the various people who helped me realize this. I do hope you all get something out of watching this other than how NOT to put the chess pieces on the board. Thank you all very much
Man idea is not bad, but there are a couple of things that should be done differently. First, the cells on the Board it was necessary to flip the other side up, because of the shrinkage of the resin it does not look aesthetically pleasing, second, the distance between cells should be no more than 2-3mm, the third color cells hurts the eyes, and the fourth lacks both alpha and numeric designations.
Eldar Safarov Thanks for the constructive feedback. I’m no expert at this however I’m gathering all of the tips and tricks that a lot of you were telling me and I might try to revisit this project in the future. So definitely stay tuned for a better and refined version

Unique way to use epoxy for sure. I haven’t seen a project like it. I was skeptical how you were going to keep all colors separate but it came out awesome.
I do a fair amount of epoxy work and your board looks amazing. I'm making a cribbage coffee table for Christmas and on the flip side of the table top will be a chess and backgammon board. I was going to buy cheap boards and just router and epoxy them into the table top. Now I might try making the inlays for the boards.
It means a lot to me knowing you have experience with it and giving me such great feedback. Thanks again. I’ve seen those cribbage tables and it looks like no easy feat. I’d like to see it when you’re done. If you Are on Instagram let’s connect on there

Very beautifully done, Chris! We followed you on Instagram while you were making it, and were looking forward to the full video. @@AGlimpseInside I have those ice trays, or ones exactly like them. Only used for ice though! Way to think outside the box. Shawn O. Taylor that’s a fantastic idea. Probably 100 bucks. Give or take. I’ve just ordered chess piece molds and I’m going to try to make actual pieces. Might have to give that powder blue and frosted clear a go. Thanks for the idea brother
Fantastic build Chris, only you can make something that good out of Epoxy Resin, yes there was some wood involved but it was mostly the Resin. This is great, making one of these for the holidays, my first time working with resin. Quick question - what liquid are you pouring on between sanding coats? Is it just water or a mineral spirit?
That looks awesome. I'm getting into making chess boards and some minor wood working just as a hobby and this is something that I know I could do with my current skill level. But it looks like something WAY better than anything I could do lol. That really looks like it would cost an arm and a leg.
