It’s been brought to my attention that the queen is always placed on her own color. In this video I made the mistake of doing it backwards. Thank you to the various people who helped me realize this. I do hope you all get something out of watching this other than how NOT to put the chess pieces on the board. Thank you all very much

Man idea is not bad, but there are a couple of things that should be done differently. First, the cells on the Board it was necessary to flip the other side up, because of the shrinkage of the resin it does not look aesthetically pleasing, second, the distance between cells should be no more than 2-3mm, the third color cells hurts the eyes, and the fourth lacks both alpha and numeric designations.

I do a fair amount of epoxy work and your board looks amazing. I'm making a cribbage coffee table for Christmas and on the flip side of the table top will be a chess and backgammon board. I was going to buy cheap boards and just router and epoxy them into the table top. Now I might try making the inlays for the boards.

Fantastic build Chris, only you can make something that good out of Epoxy Resin, yes there was some wood involved but it was mostly the Resin.
It was a great idea using the Ice Cube moulds to make the pieces, hope your wife doesn't mind.
As for the voice over, i wondered when you were going to talk as usual, then at the end you mentioned why you didn't, either the talk which we are all used to, or just the music and no talk, either way doesn't bother me, as the outcome will be the same. FANTASTIC.

Shawn O. Taylor that’s a fantastic idea. Probably 100 bucks. Give or take. I’ve just ordered chess piece molds and I’m going to try to make actual pieces. Might have to give that powder blue and frosted clear a go. Thanks for the idea brother

Hi...would you mind posting where you bought the 2" square mold? Having a hard time finding it. Thanks!

Beautiful work! Did you make the chess pieces too, or did you buy them somewhere? I’ve been looking into making a chess board, but I don’t have the skills to turn the pieces myself

Great video and just what I was looking for. How big are the spacers between the resin pieces.

Nice work but there are some problems in your design. The broad lines between the chess fields and the mirroring surface will irritate players too much. And you have forgotten to produce the field indicators a-h and 1-8, which are very important when playing chess. This could be the reason that you have set the wrong basic position. In this basic position each queen has to be set on a field of its own color (white queen on white filed and black queen on black field):

Manfred Witzany all good information for sure. I’m not the most experienced with chess as this was a checker board when I started. I just thought the chess pieces look better to display it!! Sorry for the misdirecting

@@AGlimpseInside Don't worry. The question is, is it possible to reduce the distance between the fields to lets say 0.5 mm? Alternatively could the black fields be set without space at the edges and then filled the space with the white resin to avoid the spacing lines? Reducing the mirroring is easy by changing the finish.
