@ProgGeekll good , but no one can touch the ubiquitous Paul Frees. Even at Disney you could here him on Spaceship Earth until they did the overhaul after the 25th anniversary. He did more voice over work then just about anyone back in the golden years of tv and movies.
Thank God Hanna- Barbera hired these vocal masters to entertain kids . Cartoons are the best babysitter ever . Everyone's childhood comes flooding back. Priceless.
Wow, this is my first time seeing Allan Reed, as we didn't have you-tube when I was growing up. I was hooked on the Flintstones as a child, and I will still watch an episode as an adult. I didn't know Mr. Reed did all those other voices. His voice will never be forgotten, especially Fred's.
What a treat this was! I knew most of the programs but had no idea Alan Reed had such a variety of voices in his repertoire. Thanks for compiling this!
I have thousands of Old Time Radio episodes on my hard drives. Every once in a while the unforgettable voice of Alan Reed pops up. This was great to see some of the many "visual" role voices he was. Thank you for this.
CSB: When I was a kid, I found out that I could check out cassettes of vintage radio shows from the library. I picked one at random called "Life with Luigi", from the 1940s, which included some guy named Alan Reed as one of the actors. I thought that guy sounded a lot like Fred Flintstone. This was the 70's and there was no Internet, so I had to wait until a local channel ran the Flintstones in syndication, and I discovered from the credits that Alan Reed was in fact Fred Flintstone. So his voice had been famous for decades.
Yes! I'm an old time radio aficionado, and any show with Reed was great - Phil Harris, Jack Benny, Life with Luigi, etc. One of the most unique and easily recognizable voice.
I know what you mean he will always be the voice of Fred Flintstone on the Flintstones(1960-1965). Alan Reed born in 1907, died in 1971 May he rest his soul.
Alan Reed was also on old time radio in the 1930s -1950s. He was on "Joe Palooka" , "The Fred Allen Show,"" Life With Luigi ," "Escape" and many other radio shows
He did so many voices so well! My kids tease me for being 61 and still watching the Flintstones, but Fred was a happy day man who loved his wife, daughter, and best friend! I say more men should be like Fred!!😘
@@JohnSmith-uy7sv Yes that is very true. The Bible says : By Their Fruits Ye Shall Know Them. I think Fred qualifies! And we are talking about a cartoon!!!!!! I'm out.

I enjoyed watching Alan Reed Sr and Jr in the last episode of the Gertrude Berg Show called "Mrs. G. Goes to College" also sometimes known as the Gertrude Berg show...Alan Sr played a Polish father who his son (who already changed his name to sound more "American" to Quentin Richards) was so embarrassed of his father's job and accent that he didn't even want him to come to the Dad's Weekend at the college....It ends well and is a nice episode to see both dad and son in....I think the title was "Dad's Day"....
Today when I hear (Alan Reed’s Voice) Fred, my heart actually fills with love and nostalgia. When I was growing up we joked that my Dad was actually Fred Flintstone. He sounded just like him to my sister and I, way he spoke, the entire personality of Fred! It was so much like my father that now that my Dad is gone it’s a wonderful feeling to hear Fred Flintstone…kind of bittersweet as it also reminds me of how much I miss him. Funny thing tho, dad did not like Fred Flintstone or his grouchy, loud grumbling puffed up ego…lol. Miss you Dad.
Alan Reed was a veteran radio actor trying to transition to television character roles, and it wasn't working out well for him. Meanwhile, Hanna and Barbera were at their wit's end trying to find just the right voice for Fred Flintstone. As the story goes, asked for an example of what they wanted, one of them said "Well, there was this radio actor back in New York..." Following a pregnant pause, they said "Hey, wait a minute!" And the rest is history...
Back in 1953, Alan Reed portrayed Clifton Finnegan in a syndicated TV version of "Duffy's Tavern" that only lasted one season. Hal Roach, Jr. produced it.

And a black and white close up photo of Alan Reed, at a quick glance, this photo looks pretty much like Chuck Schumer.
Definitely a unique voice. I'm listening to an old Ellery Queen. radio play on Audible when a cop starts talking and I instantly knew it was Alan Reed. Apparently he did a ton of radio work before the Flintstones. I was immediately picturing Fred Flintstone as the cop, though.
Eventually do a video for Henry Corden, he was Alan Reed's successor as Fred Flintstone, he passed in 2005, he did lots of voice work for other cartoons as well

Absolutely 👌
For sure! And I prefer Alan as Fred, over the 2nd actor.
For me, Both Alan Reed & Mel Blanc make the best voice duos in The Flintstones in general.
Another great voice of Saturday morning cartoons was Mike Road, best known for Race Bannon on Jonny Quest and Zandor on the Herculoids

Alan Reed (Disney) and Mel Blanc (Looney Tunes) on Hanna-Barra's *The Flintstones* is unquestionable.
