- In this video, how to grow Fittonia albevinis I'm discussing care of and the nature of this awesome and fun houseplant. This houseplant is considered to be safe and non-toxic so it is a good houseplant to have in homes with children and pets. The fittonias also make excellent plants for terrariums! The fittonia albevinis or fittonia argyroneura is also known as the nerve plant.

I find it to be one of the easier plants to grow-great for beginners. It's a good plant to pair with other plants that have similar watering needs, because they really show you when they need water. They also don't seem too sensitive to tap water. Thanks for highlighting this plant.
excellent observation! They are great companion plants and indicator plants since they show signs of dehydration so quickly and recover from it almost as soon as they are watered again.... depending on how long where thirsty
Good informative video. I just love fittonias! They're such pretty plants - don't need flowers. Thanks for sharing.
Very true, they are gorgeous without flowers. I love them also!
Mine had long stems. Followed your tips and It looks so much better now. Thank you!
I'm glad to hear it is doing better! Thank you!
Did you prune it? I have a red one that I bought on clearance and it's just 3 tall stems in a small pot. Nowhere near as bushy as these in the video.
Hey, you’ve been partying without me!! Not anymore! I’ve subscribed and hit the notification bell. 🤗🥰
Lol! Welcome to my channel, thank you so much! 😁😀
Currently trying to nurture my dried out fittonia back to health. I went on holiday in December and didn't water it for around a week - got back and it was all dried out! Thankfully with a little patience and regular watering today I noticed the first tiny new leaf coming through. I'm so happy!
Sounds like it is bouncing back for you! That's great!
Thanks for telling me some tips
i bottom water my fittonias n misting n they are doing good... thsnks for the tips... im s new subscriber here

Hola lindas plantas y al fin le se el nombre gracias
Gracias! me alegra que haya sido util!
Hi. This is great. Qu: can I keep my new fittonia in its nursury pot? Or should i ensure they have a specific size pot.
I love the pink / red fittonias
Me too!
Mine get leggy, and some leave end up with brown spots. The soil is moist. Not sure what it going on. I may pull it out of the pot to check the roots. Thanks, I would not have thought of doing that.
My fittonia plants were doing good in their nursery pots.
But I repotted them day before yesterday. And they wilted.
No yellowing or curling. Only one tip leaf shrivelled..
So today I repotted them again with a more well draining soil.
Now m just sitting next to them.. hoping against hope they bounce back.
M afraid I might have killed them ☹️
when mine wilt i water them from the bottom and give them a day to perk back up
After repotting the plant will need time to heal so don’t worry too much, and don’t overwater them :)
i did this and realized my new pot was too small and not well draining! She had completely wilted but completely perked back up the next day after putting her in a better pot! I thought she was dead!!!
I live in S FL zone 10b; I run my AC at 75 degrees most of the time. How do they do indoors with AC on?
Thank you,
Denise
more Fern Fridays please!
Lol. I'm running out of ferns! Hopefully I'll figure something out and get them going again. 😊
I pot mine in violet pots, which are self-watering. Now they grow like crazy!
mine is dying right now. its been one month since i bought them. and it looked really healthy. but one day i found them are droopy and i watered them. and i wait for one night. and they wont raise up. and i watered them again. and i think the root is roted. and now i try to save them. i repotting them in clay pot and change the mix. add some perlite on it. but it wont work. so i cut all of the root. and i put them in the water. try to grow their root again the water. and i hope they can growing again.
Hey there! Just wanna ask will fittonia do well in a bright led light environment? Thank you :)
I just bought one and it was dry so I water it and then the next day I saw their edges kinda wavy looking and I also mist them to help with humidity, I have them by a window with indirect light but I am not sure why the leafs are wavy
HELP!!! My fitonnia isn’t doing so well. I left for a trip and came back seeing it was droopy. Before so, she was thriving! Sprouting new babies all over. This being my first fitonnia, I thought it needed more sun seeing it was drooping. I left it out side in direct sunlight for all but a day and she is FRIED! I understand now she just needed water NOT SUN. I am devastated. I feel like a bad plant mom! What can I do to help her? Do I leave her few crunchy leaves? So I trim them? Anything would help! ):
i'm sorry if i go look again and it's really obvious but which video do you go into your whole water system you got there???
Great video thanks. I found it hard to keep it in winter I don't know why it's foliage fall down and it looks sad
if the soil is moist and it is still falling down then it may need a warmer location and/or more light. Sometimes the shorter days and cooler temps near windows in the house can slow them down and make them a little bit more fussy.
I think I've seen them and didn't know it could be keep indoors if i see them this spring i might get 1
you sure can! they are fun and colorful additions to the house!
My previouse best friend giftet me one in a tiny egg terarium, barely bigger than my hand. It survived a year, than I forgot to water it once to long and it died. I bought a new one yesterday to put back into the teratium. It's the first time I, more or less, filled a terarium on my own and now I'm just curious to see if it is going to work or if I killed the plant
Every time I buy these guys they're always labeled as "low light" plants. And yet they always end up tilting and stretching towards the light source. I got a new one yesterday, put it in my bedroom against my sunny wall and it's already leaning towards the window. I like it when they're compact but my past ones always end up growing really long and sparse.... let's see how the new one does.
I just got one today. I hope I don't kill it. I was wondering if it was really a low light plant are not. 😊
I’m surprised my fittonia likes me. I learned quick it liked to be watered. I like to water my plants. Hey it’s working. Once I forgot to water it. I thought it died but I watered it and bam. It was back to loving me
Hi! What kind of soil do these guys like?
I was rwpottong my fottoniaamd found small bulbs in the soil. What are these?
What is the best soil indoor fit tonic green and pink
Help! I can't get mine to get all bushy. It looks so thin. What do I do?
It should be noted, we don't see these much where I live out west, Mine died and it took 3 months to find another one, Just today I went to toss my old one out and noticed little babys coming up everywhere so if it dose die do to lack of watering just keep taking care of it properly and it will come back.
I just got one today. Beautiful plant. I was wondering if these plants do good in a 🛁 bathroom for humidity? Thank you in advance, great video.
Hi! I've had mine in the bathroom for a few weeks and doing well other than a few yellow leaves at the base. What have you found with yours in the bathroom? I have no windows.
@tropicalplantparty ,, any chance to stop Fittonias from growing fast?
I just got one of these and I’m so nervous that I’m going to kill it. Everyone seems to say they do best in terrariums but I don’t think I am confident enough to take that on... I’ll just try my best to keep it hydrated and keep it in indirect light so the leaves don’t get burnt! Your video was great and very informative 💜
Thank you, Brittany! You can always just set the potted plant in a large glass jar or vase and it will have the same effect as a terrarium without having to do all that layering planting which is what makes terrariums so complicated.
I have a clipping that is dying I think how do I revive it
Thanks for sharing,I got one and I place beside window,it leaves pointing up is it good or dry?
if they are standing up that should mean they are happy and healthy. When they lean and fall over they need to be watered. Though ideally they should be watered before showing signs that they are dehydrated. :)
I have a fittonia indoors in a pot w/ espoma organic all purpose potting soil for house plants, can you suggest any amendments that would better improve the soil? like charcoal, pumice, perlite coco coir, sand, etc,,,?
Hi, Luanne! If you are trying to improve aeration/drainage then pumice, perlite, charcoal, and orchid bark all work well and especially well when they are used in any combination with each other. If you're wanting to improve the nutrient levels of the soil then Espoma Plant Tone is a great option. 🙂
How often do I mist my fittonia?????
I got one from Menards and it looked very sad 🙁 It took her about a week to perk up
Hi! I was wondering how deep the soil should be the for these guys in a terrarium setting? I have a lot of horizontal space for root growth, but only about 6-8 inches for soil. Would that be enough? Thanks!
Absolutely! They have shallow root systems and will be perfectly happy with 6 to 8 inches of soil. A few videos ago I did a terrarium with fittonias with just a few inches of soil and they have been doing wonderfully. 😊
@@TropicalPlantParty Awesome! I just got some ruby red fittonia, and wanted to try it out in my 15 gallon converted terrarium! Thanks for the reply! :D
What does it mean when the leaves have crispy edges? I think she had them when I got her, but I'm not sure what the cause would be. I'm new to keeping house plants and I'm loving your videos.
Usually means they got too dry one some point and/or recieved a smidge too much light. They grow fairly fast so some messy leaves aren't a big deal in the long run. Thank you! 😊
@@TropicalPlantParty thank you so much! When I got the plant they had them in direct afternoon sun, so I'd guess that was the problem. At my house I think I've picked out a better spot :-)
Is the polka dot plant a variety of fittonia?
My fitonia leaves have faded. Any idea why?
The fittonias are taking over the terrarium! I think I’ll have to pot them up and treat them as a summer annual. Do you know if they’re toxic to cats or dogs?
the general consensus is that they are non-toxic but i always suggest looking up the type you have specifically to be certain. Sounds like they are very happy and healthy!
Thanks, they have probably tripled in size from when we got them.
I think I’ll keep the fittonia well away from Mr. Kitty 🐱 for the fittonia’s own good. 🌱
As SOON as I put mine in soil , it starts to die . I put it in a mason jar of water . And they thrive . Mine are stubborn lol
🐌 snails lo e to feast on these. I crunched up egg shells and some hot pepper and put around them. Done.
I chopped off the flower stem. Boy that one hurt
Hello there, my Fittonia leaves are curling and are getting really stiff and then dropping, they are not turning brown or yellow ...I hope you know what I mean. I mist them every day and keep the soil moist.
I hope you could help. Thanks in advance
Hello! Usually curling leaves means too much light. But it's hard to say that is the problem for sure since there are now changes in color or bleaching of the foliage. Is the air very dry where you live? It might not want to be misted. You can always try just misting the soil surface and not the foliage to see if that helps. 😊
@@TropicalPlantParty thanks soo much. I never thought about the light as it was indoors but it's very bright. So sure I would move the place. I hope it survives.
Thanks very much for your valuable advise ☺☺☺
@@TropicalPlantParty how's your plant
Sir why my fittonia has small leaves and hardly grow
I picked up a Red Anne Fittonia at the store yesterday from the discounted shelf, having no idea what it was. Right now it looks like two leaves that have been eaten by some kind of bug. Any advice on how to rescue this plant?
Do you see any bugs on it? If it looks clear of insects then just some time and TLC should do the trick. 🙂... and maybe a repot then a drink with some fertilizer. That is only if the plant looks strong enough to repot at the moment though.
Tropical Plant Party There’s not enough plant left for bugs, so I don’t see any (thank goodness). I repotted it last night and put it on a pebble tray for humidity. I’ll water and fertilize it today and hope it bounces back! It seems like someone took cuttings from the plant and left the rest of it to dry out and die. Thank you so much for the help!
If you say 55 °
most people hear 55 °C
which is extremely hot.
Isnt that like 131°F? Would hope people had the common sense to know better than to think I was saying 131°F was their minimum temperature.
My fittonia was a little too close to the window and it's not drooping but the leaves are super dry, so obviously I can Spritz them but the tips are dried out and brown on a bunch of the leaves.... should I just cut the tips off or pull the whole leaf?
Hi Ron! You can just cut off the brown portions. Leaving any viable and healthy plant tissue is always good
@@TropicalPlantParty okay thanks for the reply and I got a little antsy and I ended up doing a mixture of the two... I cut off the brown from some of the leaves and then the ones that seemed really bad, I cut them down near the stem
I just bought 1!!Am worried 😎😎
lol! Don't be! Everyone's climate is different so it might be a nice an easy houseplant for you. :)
@@TropicalPlantParty in my country Belize Central America we have a lot of sun 2 much sun at time
my fittonia is freaking tall, I want to trim it but im afraid if its gonna die, anyone can help xD ?
Yours are not curled at all, I have a baby and the leaves curled as soon as it arrived home but it still looks healthy except for the curling... Is that maybe lack of humidity?
Mine is losing the 'nerve'. Help!
Yuki Yuki the pink? I hear if it starts losing it’s pink colors it needs more light.
My fittonia is crunchy 😑
Yeah, that happens sometimes. They can resprout from their roots if it gets to a point where u need to cut it back.
@@TropicalPlantParty thanks. I'm doing my best
Definitely not the easiest plant to take care lol
