@@RoadtoFinnish Thank you so much, I am sorry I missed it! I do have an idea for one of your HOAS videos though, what about a video comparing the neighborhoods where HOAS provides housing? For example I would like to live in a place that has plenty of movement, a gym nearby and one of the university restaurants close. I believe lot of people would be interested in such content. As I said before, thank you so much for your awesome content :)

Hi there! I want to point out something. I'm planning to work in Finland in the next couple years. I'm already learning Finnish and I won't complain about that. If foreigners come to my country I expect them to know the basics of our language. I won't expect them to be proficient at it but I will expect them to be able to communicate with us. Thinking that English will be enough is just disrespectful towards the country you're going to. They have their culture and their language and its you who has to try to fit in there and not viceversa. What I'm saying is: if there's a labor shortage I could understand that Finnish was not a requirement anymore, but as far as I know, that's not the case in Finland? Anyway, thanks for uploading these kind of videos. I really enjoy them and they give me a huge boost in motivation when studying Finnish :)

I have managed to live and work in Finland for over 20 years without speaking finnish (IT industry). The last time I applied for a job with a Finnish company (Comptel in Helsinki) about 80 others applied for the job. Once I worked there the hiring manager said that not being Finnish was actually an advantage in getting the job since I would not suffer as much culture shock when travelling around the world for work as somebody born and bought up in Finland. If a company has Finnish as a working language then that tells you something about their outlook and view of the world.

Hi, I have a question regarding cover letters. I never really understand why a candidate need to write about the company.
For one, the candidate doesn’t know about the company outside of any public information that is available. Wouldn’t it make more sense for the employer to talk to the candidate about their company during the interview?
I live in New Zealand (NZ), and I’ve worked for NZ and Australian companies; a cover letter is not really required when applying for a job in these countries.
    And yes, I’m in tech.

If you want your company to grow internationally, you should engage in English communication. It doesn't make any sense if you push your local language which most people around the world unable to understand and would take a lot of time to learn.

@@RoadtoFinnish Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it. I'm a Portuguese national, I'm an Arts graduate (bachelors degree), I've studied a basic computer ed course with graphic designing with internship after my graduation (dealing with stuff like Adobe creative suite, MSoffice, accounting software etc). After that I worked for a hospital here for almost 2 years as a doctors assistant and customer relationship assistant.
After that in 2019 I went onto studying IT on my own, particularly starting with SQL, NoSQL, Tableau etc (first on databases), then with Front End & Back End technologies like HTML, CSS, JS, NodeJS, and React as well as web designing involving Adobe XD and Figma. I know I changed careers back and forth, but I feel confident with IT. I started Freelancing with my own company this year in Feb.
I want to move to Finland to get full time work into IT as a web dev and/or web design either for small or large companies. I'd be willing to learn Finnish along the way as I have a niche for learning languages too. I don't mind the cold weather.
A list of my projects are available in my website: www.carvalhosolutions.com

Cyber and digital security is definitely a great field to study and there are many interesting companies in the field. Its hard to say about part time jobs however, because im not sure whether any companies in this field hires students before they graduate. My gut feeling is that yes they do, but i have no idea what kind of requirements they would have for such jobs.

    Hi Oliver,
First of all thanks for helping all of us, I'm working in IT Sector
I have a doubt, if I don't get job in finland directly from Non-EU country, but if I get job in poland Or Portugal, and if I go to poland for job, is it easy for me to get job in Finland as I entered EU?

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  2 года назад

Hey Gafoor and thanks for the question. Its hard to say whether working in Poland at first would have any impact on your chances of finding a job in Finland. I guess yeah since you would be gathering work experience - but that would apply to any country. However, if your question was about residence permits then no, working in another EU country will not help you unless you become an EU citizen. As a non EU citizen, you will have to apply for a residence permit for work even if you want to work in Finland - even if you received a job from another EU country before that.
What i would recommend you to do is to simply start applying for jobs in Finland in the IT sector. If you are lucky enough to find a company that wants to hire you AND they make you a binding job offer, you should not have any issues getting a residence permit to work here.

It's very easy to find an IT job in here if you know what they are looking from a particular candidate. Your CV must tell them at a glance who you are and if they want more info it should include in your linked in profile. and you should be a dynamic person. here in Finland there are no one tech / language / framework. you should ready for any thing. And this will be evaluated thought the process. that's it. give it a try

The city you study in will not matter. If there is a degree taught in a univeristy, there is also demand for people in that field.
