Thanks for this. It was much head scratching to get the video to show on a PC, but mp4s work for me now. I have to sync breakbeats to a butterfly's wings and this is probably the only software I know of where it's possible. I'm working with a much smaller proxy video just to do the music and then move everything into Premiere.

The only thing we need now in Ableton are transitions and creative text forming and writing. (maybe as a max4live plugin) and I would not need any other video production software. :)

Hey, great video!! just im getting a bit lost with exporting, on windows 10 I have no video encoder options and i cant export any video files, i have the MPEG option but it wont export as MPEG only Wav or MP3. Ive noticed on a Mac you have about 3-10 different video options, just i use windows 10 and its not giving me these options, do i need to install something? can anyone help, thanks, much appreciated, matt
hey matt! i'm no windows pro so i can't tell ya too much, but from the comments i've received it sounds like windows has a lot more issues with videos than mac. i think you're doing it right, it's the computer that's not keeping up. good luck!
You need to ensure you have the matroska splitter and ffdshow codecs on Windows 10.. its on the ableton website.. I have Windows Nd ableton 11 standard and its working... apart from I get freezing on my vids at the point of the start of the next vid clip.. I'm working that out..

Ableton is such a deep rabbit hole, I have been hesitant to learn video software because it is challenging to wear so many hats and keep focus on finishing songs which is my main priority. I am going to love doing the take lane comps and stutter edits. The compression technique will be highly utilized. I have for years noticed the video thing, but hadn't looked into it. Now I know thanks to you. Have you looked at creating light shows with Ableton. That is its own deep rabbit hole. I made one lightening bolt with a student and then that was it. Pretty immersive and took attention away from writing songs. I'll let the lighting buffs focus on that part. Thanks, another great video.

Im doing audio dilagou replacement on some Harry Potter clips and the video wont play from wherever I start it in the video window, sometimes it will just stay black but the audio will be playing, so frustrating

Soooo.... When I try to drag an MP3 into the timeline I just the the no symbol 🚫and nothing happens... What gives? EDIT: For anyone else having the same issue, for whatever reason, Ableton doesn't ship with the codec needed for it to read the video file so if you google "editing video with Ableton" and you'll find the page on their website with the link to download what you need.

hm - sorry to hear that sumovibe. there's still the black out between clips? are you working on a mac or pc? you may want to mess with the clip fades to be sure that one clip isn't actually fading before another comes in.
@@LillianFrances CLIP FADES only pertain to the audio. Not the video. I guess ABLETON is just not made for video.... not even for the most simple fade from one clip to another. Too bad.

I have been mixinAV for about 20yrs and for a lonf time I had problems with adjusting video on tempo of my project..With ableton al you have to worry is audio and video will follow...So much faster then any other software

MP4 or even MOV files don't load into Ableton 11, do you know why?
