It's been over a year since Angie and I did this hike but it's still worth sharing...
Our final hike in Sedona was a special one; with the help of a local storeowner in town we were able to find an amazing backcountry campsite that was isolated far from town and overlooking a beautiful canyon. While researching for this hike I found some sources online that made me realize we would be passing by some ruins that were in very good shape so I added that into our plans too. The campsite lived up to its hype, we enjoyed the spectacular views there both in the evening and the morning before hiking back towards the Jeep. On the way back, Angie continued to the Jeep where we had camp already set up from the previous days and I left the trail to hike on over to the ruins, which ended up being one of the highlights of our entire roadtrip through the southwest.
This trail isn't hiked as frequently as most of the trails in Sedona, and even less people go up to the ruins. The entire time we were out there we didn't see another person hiking on the trail, this was especially good because there is really only space for one camp at the overlook we camped at. Maybe if I kept hiking further on when I reached the saddle while searching for my campsites maybe I could have found one up there but I can't say for sure.
Because of there aren't many good places to camp and the vulnerability of ancient ruins I decided not to name any locations or trailheads that we hiked to in this video. If you really want to do this hike you should be able to figure it out with some research, we were able to.
