He had been Held Back for Years by MOTOWN just wanting to create Trendy Music that they thought would sell and make Them Rich! Marvin wanted to produce Music that meant something and would withstand the TEST OF TIME!!! Well, it's 53 years later!!!

I'm surprised you guys didn't talk more about the lyrics. This song's full title is Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology), and is a heartfelt desperate plea about industrial pollution and the environment. The entire What's Going On album is a call for sanity in what was a rapidly deteriorating world, and I feel it works best when listened to in its entirely. Marvin Gaye and Luther Vandross never met in person, but in 1982 Gaye called Vandross to tell him how much he enjoyed his and Cheryl Lynn's cover of "If This World Were Mine"
Sad they really don't have a clue what Marvin is saying in this song.. the lyrics are so much more than just the music, this man was way ahead of his time.
Too bad you guys completely missed the meaning, to the point that you were only talking about how dreamy the instruments made you feel…too bad, so sad😞
Amber and Jay, the entire album What's Going On, which this song comes from, is fantastic! It's called a concept album in which most of the songs segue into the next. Actually the songs are being told from the perspective of a Vietnam veteran returning home and witnessing hatred, suffering, and injustice. I hope you have an opportunity to listen to entire album. In 2020, it was ranked number one on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Thanks for the reaction!
Amber has treated herself with such care over the last few years. She glows now snd has grown her presence into a content star. She has put the work in and it shows in her confidence.
What can I say…Marvin Gaye!! Grew up on his music. He spoke to the “government and to those in charge of our land. He spoke about the horrible pain war brings. This was the Vietnam war era and he spoke of peace and love. His music had a very distinct sound. Love all of his music!!❤❤❤❤
This one almost never fails to bring tears: over where we could've been versus where we are right now - but it also brings hope for what we can yet still achieve.
Marvin Gaye is right at the top...... he was one of the first records I owned. Was poor, couldn't have much, but I had Marvin Gaye.... That was sixty some years ago, and I'd still choose him for my music collection. What music! What a voice.... he's special!
Marvin had one of the most perfect voices ever. Motown was blessed to have him and the world lost him far too soon. He was another reason I loved growing up in Detroit in the 60's and 70's.
Next week I'll be 71 yo - this was the top album when I was a senior in HS in 1971 - over 50 years ago- also called (The Ecology) a masterpiece. Still so important - Thanks ! (Robert Palmer does a great version of MercyMercyMe / I Want You - another Beautiful Marvin song.)
My absolute favorite song of his solo! If you ever get a chance, my favorite duet was him and Tammy Terrell - “ain’t no mountain high enough”. Boy was sad to lose her so young!
Never more will albums like this be made. Music died after the 80s. God blessed us with this masterpiece when He gifted it through Marvin Gaye. God bless and keep the classics coming on your channel, guys.
Growing up on a farm north of Detroit we would see the black skies overhead, was it a thunderstorm No it was from the smokestack's of the Auto Industry. Then Marvin's voice came to us over the radio waves "Oh Mercy, Mercy Me"😢, We need more Motown because I felt good when I heard Marvin sing,😊 thank you Marvin for opening our eyes in the 60's. Thank you Jay&Amber for keeping this music alive, 😊✌️Peace ☮️ your 70 year old forever Young Hippie Gary💃🕺 Great Reaction👍 Marvin 🙏 RIP
This album, this song is the heart and the soul of the 60's and 70's. The struggles, the changes, the frustration, all in one album. Informative, calming, genuine.
You were right Jay. Marvin Gaye did record Let's Get It On. I would suggest some his songs with Tammy Terrell: If I Could Build My Whole World Around You, Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing, If This World Were Mind, Your Precious Love and Ain't No Mountain High Enough.
One of the many songs his silky smooth vocals graced. From duets with Tammy Terrell to his solo songs. "Distant Lover" the live version is proof of how much women were crazy 'bout da Man. The crowd erupts and there's one screaming loudly through out the whole song. Truly a great singer.
Nobody on earth right now listens to music with more emotion, attention, empathy, and love than Miss Amber. These videos are indeed reactions, but can also be seen as mini-journeys within Amber’s mind, as I’ve never known, met, or seen anyone able to immediately FEEL every word and every note of a song the WAY IT WAS WRITTEN to make us feel than Amber. I can’t say enough about her. She’s another level special. Jordan is a massively lucky man.
Attention? It's pretty clear that they completely missed the entire meaning of the song, as conveyed through the lyrics. They're using adjectives like "peaceful" "dreamy" "genuine" and "beautiful". Meanwhile the lyrics include lines like "Where did all the blue skies go? Poison is the wind that blows. Oil wasted on the oceans and upon our seas. Fish full of mercury. Radiation underground and in the sky. Animals and birds who live nearby are dying. What about this overcrowded land? How much more abuse from man can she stand?"
@@gotham61I remember listening to this as a kid, not paying much attention to the lyrics. The music and the sound of his voice are too beautiful for the subject at hand. As a young person at the time, I just remember it being relaxing and “dreamy.”

VERY much relevant TODAY. If folks are aware of factual reality, yes the songs are certainly relatable.
