I really hope that more young people like myself show interest in these beautifle old towns and villages and feel the need to restore the buildings to their glory days, every people should protect their culture, it shows a nations pride and it is important history of our species, also Japanese achitecture is very gorgeous and you won't find it in other parts besides korea and china.

Thank you for showing these beautiful places and the lovely scenery! I very much like the aesthetics of traditional japanese houses. Is it possible to insulate the walls and roof without destroying the original charm? How were they traditionally heated? I would love to hear about your experiences. Greetings from Germany!

Thank you for the comment! For the roof yes, for the wall I think it's a bit harder to insulate while keeping the existing walls... many of the old farmhouses have the Irori fireplace, but I think most time people back in the day just tend to wear a lot more inside the house & move a lot more rather than being a couch potato 😂

Many thanks for finally visiting Fukuoka! 😊 🙇‍♂️
Crowdfunding is a good initiative for optimising vacant spaces in Yame but the temporary buzz it generates can’t hide deep seated issues why Japan can’t rejuvenate many towns and municipalities.
What is the tourism potential for Yame?
I know TSMC is setting up a new plant in nearby Kumamoto prefecture in 2024. Do you know what other new local or foreign businesses are doing the same?
New businesses mean more jobs, more economic opportunities and more migration/tourism.
    Thanks! 😊

I think TSMC is making quite a huge impact on Kumamoto and the surrounding area...! Not much going on around Yame but I think there is a stable growth of newcomers relocating there - oh and it's also known for tea plantation as well!

Lovely, we're going in November.. Sincerely hope that Japan finds a way to address their population issues (ageing, births, migration) in a meaningful way.

You will pardon my ignorance but is Japan still required to wear face masks? It is reassuring to see the history and structures enjoyed. So much can disappear when not perceived to have value. Beauty can be found in the grain of the wood to the placement of the structure. If only one could create the same where I am.

It's not required, but socially it is heavily expected. You'll get a lot of glares for not wearing one in public areas.

I think most people in Japan now wear masks just because they are "used to" wearing masks...including myself!
