I'm so glad that I found you as I, too, have a Jazz 2 and a Cutie frame. I didn't like using the Surestitch Elite. So please let me know if you would like to purchase it from me.
Hi! Here's an update on my quilting on the Cutie frame using the Jazz 2 I've purchased the over the top handles and the Grace speed controller, which have been a much better fit for me!
I am having the exact issues! It's so very frustrating! I switched thread to a Isacord 40W polyester thread to see if that would help and now I've got huge eyelashes and am on #9 upper tension but no thread breakage! Go figure.
Hey Susan!!! My only tips would be to check your needle size and top thread tension. They both shred thread like crazy. I love FMQ’ing, tho it scares the bejeezus out of me, lol!!! Can’t wait to see how you progress with this quilt. - Stephanie
I’ve got a 110/18 needle in, I’m just going to keep playing with the tension. On this particular machine, it typically has to be high for FMQ. I am so surprised the Aurifil is shredding like that! I’ll keep trying. And yes ma’am, sometimes the bejeezus gets scared out of me too 😂
I have the jazz2 and have had great success with glide thread size 14/16 needle AND feed dogs up that’s were you feel that pull.pressure set at 0.my stitch width at 21/2and stitch lenth21/2. I to have had lots of needles break and thread breaks.quilts beautiful at med speed
I never had issues when I FMQ with a sew steady table extension (I should say after I worked out all the kinks)…. Put it on a carriage and frame and it was like starting allllll over. It’s getting better every time I try. I moved up to a bigger needle per the advice of my local sewing machine shop. Currently 110/18. That helped the needle breakage. Glide has been good for me as well. Just wanted to see what all the fuss about aurifil is 😂. I have never tried FMQ with the feed dogs up. Ever. That scares me. Do you use a supreme slider?

All I've ever used is Aurifil and it has done really well.

No I tried that and it didn’t work.I use car wax it works well.
Do you care to share a link for the handles you are using here.
I have the same issue with thread breaking. Keep trying tension and thread. Glad I’m not the only one. Just purchased the Baby Lock Jazz 2.
How are your handles on top. I wish mine were?
