I went to Hampshire College, but I spent a fair share of my time at UMass. I had a lot of friends that went to school there, plus the field my concentration was in (Theater & Film) allowed me to collaborate creatively with students at ALL the schools in the consortium. I learned a LOT from my UMass classes, and took advantage of the University’s resources, like world-class Theater facilities at the Fine Arts Center (which small colleges don’t generally have) and the advantage of having a UMass faculty member sit on my Division III (Senior Thesis) committee at Hampshire.
Overall, UMass is an excellent school. DuBois Library is the BEST library resource out of ALL of the Five College libraries; HANDS DOWN. I was even accepted into the MFA program in Theater at UMass after graduating from Hampshire, and although I ultimately went to NYC for grad school, I felt privileged to have been offered a spot in the UMass department.

My daughter wants to apply here but we live in PA. Out of state tuition is so high.

no harm in applying because there are always opportunities for scholarships but if not, it is definitely not worth out of state tuition to a state school.
