I was in mourning back in November 2014 when my dog Princess suddenly passed away. I remember just going through RUclips and I came across this video. For some reason the song she sang "Till After The Holidays" seem like it was something I was saying in my head after my dog died "why couldn't you wait til after XMas"! It's was like that song haunted me for a while. Fast forward 7 years later, it still haunts me in a good way, I still miss my dog yet I have more strength to move on than 7 years ago.
Streisand might have a legitimate claim to this title! It's too bad Garland died too soon! It remains to be seen how often they would have appeared together! Her duet with Streisand on her short lived Television series was the best duet she ever performed!
.....these two songs have wonderful lyrics ,gone too soon Judy 6 month after this perfomance she died, this was her last Christmas, she left us with only 47 years,a true legend
She may be I'll mannered, but I'd give the nod of best singer ever to Barbra Streisand! When she appeared on Garland's show and sang a duet with her, I honestly believe that Garland was more in awe of Streisand than any other singer she sang with!
@@arthurgearheard4701 Can't agree with that. Too much ego in so much of her work. Garland was the exact opposite. These two singers who are so often compared are in fact polar opposites. Garland was all about making an emotional connection with the audience and her best work does that to an extraordinary degree. Garland is unanimously accepted as one of the greatest film stars and concert givers of all time, Streisand is neither. As for Garland being in awe of Streisand - you must be joking! She performed, unforgettably, and more that held her own with the greatest of the great -Astaire, Kelly, Crosby and Sinatra among them. Since you mention the duet with Streisand (I assume you are referring to the "Happy" duet) it shows starkly the difference between them. Garland is all about connecting with the audience, Streisand barely looks at them.
I will never forget hearing this performance at the time when I lost my beloved little boy. It felt as though my heart had been torn out of my chest. But I always keep in mind, as the lyric states, that someday, I will reach the sky, and my shattered heart will be mended, once again. I have leaned on this performance for courage to face the days, months, and years I have been forced to face without my child in my arms, with love and appreciation for the magical lady whose voice has the quality of heartbreak-both ours, and hers.

Magical & magnificent Garland performance features a hauntingly glorious moving vocal, totally a must view every Christmas and in between...looking and sounding amazing, who knew this precious gift would only be around six more months, love you forever Judy & RIP
Amazing what she could still do vocally and emotionally Six Months before she died! It brings me to tears and cheers every time I watch this. She was extraordinary as a performer and entertainer! Judy was only happy when she was performing and making others happy. Such a tragic but very memorable life..............She will live on forever!
I'm not a music critic or historical commentator, but listen to Judy start Till After The Holidays. She uses the warmth of her voice to create the lyric, but she's also clearly aware that she can't hit those crescendos without loosing her footing and she demurs and in doing so heightens the emotional text of the song while keeping control of her vocals. Brilliance. Its not about weakened vocal ability, its about contribution and glorying in the moment.
To my mind, you've expressed yourself better than any music critic or historical commentator. You have a great emotional awareness of Judy's genius and this shows what a warm human being you are yourself.
I just thought what you said was really lovely and heartfelt - instead of being critical, like some other people might do, you chose to see the greatness within Judy. I wish you every happiness.
There is a sadness and haunting quality to this performance , because this Great but wounded songbird would be gone in just six months after this appearance. Frail, but what a magnificent singer. Her phrasing and tone are still absolutely present, even though the voice was frayed at the edges by then. Her ability to communicate a song with unparalleled charisma remains beautifully intact. It puts the lie to the myth that her very final years were disastrous in terms of her talent. She demonstrated many, many outstanding performances in those last three years of life. Many legitimate triumphs on stage, though she was living on borrowed time. THIS is exquisite singing, the way songs can be sung by greats even when past their prime.
I was young when she had her show and I knew then i was witnessing something not of this world. E ery time I see clips of her I cry. She touches me so deeply...there will be no one ever like her again. I would have died in my seat to see her in person. Perhaps in the next life...I love you judy.
I have to say Mario Cantone introduced me to Judy Garland during his "Laugh Whore" special. After that masterpiece of comedy I watched most of the 15 minute concerts and the '63 and '64 TV show.
