...How can one ever describe this? The look in her eyes says it all, the song fits so perfectly in her voice and expression I get lost in it... An amazing woman and artist, thank you Joan for this work of art
Marvellous!!!! I love her voice control, and notice how she seems to hardly open her mouth and yet every word is crystal clear, present day singers take a lesson from this woman.
Amazing lady and individual who fought with a political purpose for a better humanity in America, I'm blessed to have the original vinyl of Baez sings Dylan, I'd of ran away with her beautiful woman
I think her best performance ever. The entire show (BBC 1965) was very good and Joanie really clicked with her audience. It illustrated what made her unique - no back-up, no slick production, no script, no entourage - just Joanie, her guitar and her raw emotion.
in 1969 i had in my hand a 45 rpm vinyl record with covers songs of " Eloise, boom bang bang, eleonore, and where do you go to my lovely, 4 songs squeezed in a 45rpm, does any one out there remember this record? I am talking 1969. more than, or better yet almost 50 years ago,if some one has it I will buy it from you, or if some one can tell me ,.where I can get this record I trully appreciate it, is for nostalgic reason
Go 'way from my window Leave at your own chosen speed I'm not the one you want, babe I'm not the one you need You say you're lookin' for someone Never weak but always strong To protect you an' defend you Whether you are right or wrong Someone to open each and every door But it ain't me, babe No, no, no, it ain't me, babe It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe Go lightly from the ledge, babe Go lightly on the ground I'm not the one you want, babe I will only let you down You say you're lookin' for someone Who will promise never to part Someone to close his eyes for you Someone to close his heart Someone who will die for you an' more But it ain't me, babe No, no, no, it ain't me, babe It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe Go melt back into the night, babe Everything inside is made of stone There's nothing in here moving An' anyway I'm not alone You say you're looking for someone Who'll pick you up each time you fall To gather flowers constantly An' to come each time you call A lover for your life an' nothing more But it ain't me, babe No, no, no, it ain't me, babe It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe
She is a powerful and beautiful singer. The lyrics and music are inspired. But looking back at the meaning after all these years I can see what a sad song this is. A tale of someone who will not give themselves totally to a lover but who always holds back. If I had lived out the philosophy of the song these last 45 years, I would have had a terrible life. This is brilliant art but I am happy I took a different path than the one described here.
I think it's an absolutely incredible cover, by the way.. her eyes are so haunting. I find it more moving then Dylan's version, but I think maybe that's because when he sings it, it's almost scathing.
Oh, por favor... Me he enamorado por completo de esta versión de Joan, me gusta mucho Bob Dylan, pero ésta es la primera vez que sé de ella... Y su voz... SU VOZ
@gregorymwishart i under stand and i agree with you completely, there is still music like this out there. it's just that it isn't as out in the open as it used to be, it's underground now and it just makes me wonder why music as beautiful as this isn't as celebrated as it was in the past.
As a Reaganite I've never agreed with her politically but I have to admit there is something about her voice and appearance that is transfixing. She is an American treasure and icon of the sixties. I find her rendition of this song to be so sincere it scary.
@gstromquist exactly :) i'm in high school and i've become so aware of how technology has affected my generation's tast in music. i feel like if something isn't instantly a gigantic production, they become impatient and don't bother to take the time to let the message of a song soak in or appreciate or realize that actual people are creating art with sound.
What a lovely cover. Arrangement-wise, this is quite a lot like the version Dylan played live himself in the 1990s (which I've never managed to find a recording of) - though her mellifluous voice obviously transforms it. I think I like this quite a lot better than Dylan's original album recording.
@jimaroo100 i think more than holding back...its about someone who can stand fully on their own, a soul on a journey, more about dependency and independency, about letting the other person know, that you might not be there forever, for nothing is set in stone, and also, that you're not there to solve all their troubles, its nice to share battles sometimes, but if you share them all, you only create a crutch, ending up never standing fully on you own.
You see, my friend, the irony is.....I gave all of myself.... but I didn't lose, I gained myself . he who loses himself will find himself...he who dies to himself will live... I made a decision to give my wife all of me..... and she did the same...and the exquisite beauty is that I found myself in her.... oh well I am not poet enough to describe it. But it has been a beautiful life.
I GOT VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE NEW CRAP BEING PLAYED ON THE RADIO THESE DAYS AND THOUGHT I WOULD LISTEN TO SOME OF THE OLDER ARTISTS AND MUSIC FROM THE 60' AND 70's, IS IT JUST ME OR DID THE ARTISTS IN THOSE DAYS PUT MORE FEELING AND HEART INTO THERE MUSIC...... JOAN BAEZ, BOB DYLAN, JOHN DENVER AND SO MANY OTHERS..... PEACE
No one emotes like Joan. And hearing her sing this, seeing her eyes, we all know who she’s thinking about. Damn, Bob. You broke her heart.
Purely genuine singer. Hand me a tissue.
I don't think I've ever loved a musicians voice as much as hers
...How can one ever describe this? The look in her eyes says it all, the song fits so perfectly in her voice and expression I get lost in it... An amazing woman and artist, thank you Joan for this work of art
This song and this live version specifically makes me weep everytime I hear it. Joan is such a beautiful singer, transcendental
Marvellous!!!! I love her voice control, and notice how she seems to hardly open her mouth and yet every word is crystal clear, present day singers take a lesson from this woman.
Dylan and many others always said what a good guitarist she was, and it's true, absolutely brilliant.
Amazing lady and individual who fought with a political purpose for a better humanity in America, I'm blessed to have the original vinyl of Baez sings Dylan, I'd of ran away with her beautiful woman

No words can describe the wonder and greatness of you joan baez
in 1969 i had in my hand a 45 rpm vinyl record with covers songs of " Eloise, boom bang bang, eleonore, and where do you go to my lovely, 4 songs squeezed in a 45rpm, does any one out there remember this record? That voice.. Those eyes.. impossible to ignore!
the shy smile
Being young, I discovered this via repeats at the start of the 1990s and it's something I still find myself singing today.
What an angel, just love her! and such a delicate, beautifull voice!
Go 'way from my window
Leave at your own chosen speed
I'm not the one you want, babe
I'm not the one you need
You say you're lookin' for someone
Never weak but always strong
To protect you an' defend you
Whether you are right or wrong
Someone to open each and every door
But it ain't me, babe
No, no, no, it ain't me, babe
It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe
Go lightly from the ledge, babe
Go lightly on the ground
I'm not the one you want, babe
I will only let you down
You say you're lookin' for someone
Who will promise never to part
Someone to close his eyes for you
Someone to close his heart
Someone who will die for you an' more
But it ain't me, babe
No, no, no, it ain't me, babe
It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe
Go melt back into the night, babe
Everything inside is made of stone
There's nothing in here moving
An' anyway I'm not alone
You say you're looking for someone
Who'll pick you up each time you fall
To gather flowers constantly
An' to come each time you call
A lover for your life an' nothing more
But it ain't me, babe
No, no, no, it ain't me, babe
It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe

In love with her voice, with her flawless beauty and with her deep eyes.
A voice that still chills me with a great song.
I know that this is a cover but my God her voice it is so beautiful. What a talented women.
What a jewel of a performance- superb talent and an exquisite delivery!
The greatest female voice of all time, imho, none can touch her.
beautiful voice and she is so detached from song yet so into it....kind of send sends a chill at the same time ...lovely presentation.
Dylan to write this song and Joan Baez to sing it was a musical match made in heaven.
I fucking love this girl.. Crying, yo. I love you too, Joan Baez.
I think it's an absolutely incredible cover, by the way.. her eyes are so haunting. I find it more moving then Dylan's version, but I think maybe that's because when he sings it, it's almost scathing.
"The Sweet Music Of Our Lives"
i can't get over the beauty of this song sang in this voice.

Eu retorno a essa música periodicamente, a cada coração partido...

A voice that simply defies description.
gotta love joan baez' sarcasm: "this is a protest song ... " ..funny stuff
It wasn't sarcasm, the "babe" in the song is the American flag...
@@darioardizzone8170 You couldn’t be more wrong !
Stunning.

this ist a relentless good song!

I admired her ! She really put herself on the line
She was goddess

@TheEpicMusicChannel
Its a protest song in that she says "I suppose I'm anti-marriage" Not your typical "love" song.
so many chills
She is Brilliant!
She's breaking my heart
Love you JoanThanks for your words that have relevance through time.
What a lovely cover. Arrangement-wise, this is quite a lot like the version Dylan played live himself in the 1990s (which I've never managed to find a recording of) - though her mellifluous voice obviously transforms it. I think I like this quite a lot better than Dylan's original album recording.
Love It.
La voz femenina más hermosa del mundo!
@MrPsychoSquid We're all still listening to it. :-)
Joan looked like the identical twin of my mother, both in young and older age :)
JOAN BAEZ ,,, FOREVER
@TheEpicMusicChannel Exactly! This song was written about her.
Dedicated to all the women whom ever have been stalked.
I love my dog.

I wonder if she is still against marriage or not. Because true wisdom comes with the age.
I support marriage 100%! So sad that so many do not understand what real love is.
