I’ve got the black elite model from 2009. Regularly maintained and never had an issue! Absolute work horse that console is. I have a slim on the shelf ready just in case lol
I have owned every PlayStation generation. And every xbox generation. My xbox 360 elite was really reliable, the disc drive got stuck once. Appart from that. Ran perfect and still runs still.
I have a slim and a phat, i got the slim pretty recently from a flea market for $50 and i bought a kinect for $10. It also came with hd component cables. I bought the phat just yesterday for $10 and surprisingly enough, it works, I just need to open it up and clean the dvd drive mechanism. It also came with a 5ghz compatible wifi adapter.

This year I’ve gotten back into playing Xbox. I hadn’t had a Xbox since the OG Halo Edition one. It did die one me though so I got a used one years ago. This year I started off with getting an Xbox Series S. I love it I’m playing it constantly. At some point I decided I also wanted a Xbox One as well to try out backwards compatibility also some physical games not yet available on the Series S/X. Plus some of the physical games are cheaper than the digital versions. I decided to try my original Xbox because I wanted to play it again. I had to of course attend to some issues that arisen upon firing it up again. I got the orange flashing light issue. It wasn’t just because of an AV issue it was overheating. The fan has stopped working! I had to swap the fan out. I still had my Halo Edition that wasn’t working. I open it to take the fan out because it was still working. It was a horror story to see inside the Halo Edition I saw why it potentially died. It died because of the leaky capacitor issue. Lots of apparent leakage and corrosion! 😭 I don’t think it’s salvageable because it’s also rust corroded. I put the fan in my other Xbox and it worked! I also had replaced the thermal paste on gpu and cpu. I also decided to cut out the clock capacitor in it because I was lucky it didn’t leak on my replacement Xbox. So it’s working fine. Yesterday I decided to get a HDMI adapter cord for the Xbox at my local retro game store. After leaving there I stopped at a Half Price Books to browse. They sometimes have retro consoles. I always like to go there to find great deals on games. I saw some Xbox 360 on the shelves at the registers as I paying for some things I picked up. They had 2 Slim 360s and 1 360 E. I asked about the prices on them. I was told $74.99. I asked if I could look at 360 E. It seemed it very good condition a tad dusty and with some scratches. I also decided to take the plunge and buy it. Lol! I have bought 3 Xbox systems this year! It started off with a Series S, then an Xbox One S and now a 360 E. I now have all 4 versions of Xbox console generations. Lol
So with the phats which are the older models actually have 7 board revisions. To avoid the red ring of death, look at the manufacturer date of the console. The best old Xbox will be one with the manufacturer date of 2009-2010. They are tanks. The best board being the last one called “Kronos” which was manufactured late 2009. So to be safe go for one which is like September 2009. For any Xbox 360 buyer I strongly recommend that console in particular, yes you will have to buy a WiFi adapter, however they are dirt cheap to buy. But why do I recommend the Kronos board over something like a slim or e? It’s because it is the best board out of the Xbox 360 lifespan. You physically can’t get a red ring on that board unless you break it on purpose.
My Xbox 360 S recently died and wouldn’t stay on. It plays the sound for powering on, but then cuts off power and doesn’t play the powering off noise. Checked the power box and it’s not the box, and it’s not the RROD
@@gamingwolf7895 RROD is 3 lights signaling general hardware failiure normally due to the GPU’s pins melting and desoldering themselves. Overheating is 2 lights, and it doesn’t really count as an RROD. The slim has no RROD because the GPU and CPU got merged in to one chip, therefore solving the problem. Edit: you can also get an RROD after a power outage, but you can easily solve it by reconnecting the power brick to the console. (If the light on the power brick isn’t green, it simply needs to be re-connected to the console) Also im not sure if this can even happen on the slim
@@olileoli2788 then still can it's very rare for it to actually happen tho. The segments don't light up on the slim the dot just turns red. So you can't tell what's happening
Common problem on the slims is for a bank of 0 ohm resistors to fail near the southbridge, Its a fairly well documented issue theres videos on youtube about it. These failing cause full fan speed and a RROD on slim models. No power case is generally a SMD capacitor shorting on the power button board. Also a couple of videos detailing this problem online. I just picked up a Star Wars C-3PO XBOX360 slim for $34.99 and the AV doesn’t want to connect. Also the fan runs loud and then I think it’s reading as overheating. If you have 3 lights get the secondary error code by holding sync and pressing eject 4 times. For gpu errors the only fix is a gpu replacement
