    You're so lovely. Honestly I adore your videos. I was searching for gardeners from my climate(South Ireland) or similar and all I found were either from really hot countries or just weren't clear or way too long.
    Honestly your videos are gold dust and you're such a pleasure to watch
    Keep up the fantastic work. You've inspired me to grow because you've made it so accessible
    Thank you beautiful!!!

    Iv always taken a laid back approach to gardening and just grew whatever, wherever but I'm trying this square foot gardening.. There's so many benefits. Obviously we're going all organic..
    Iv even taken notice of what I'm feeding my horses as I use their manure in the compost heap.

    You can find used volleyball or tennis strings that go between the poles for the center if you're growing vertically. It's really easy and usually at most thrift stores for next to nothing.

    Thanks for everything I've seen on your videos! You're the only one (maybe among very few gardeners with YT channels) who construct the raised beds with plastic protection on the wood sides! I really wanted to see how it's done and ... there it is! Maybe it would have been even better to apply on the wood panels a layer of some kind of oil, maybe flaxseed oil, in order to protect them over the time and keep out rot and bugs.
    Regarding raised beds: when constructing them over the existing grass (and weeds) would it be better to pun on the bottom some cardboards? And some mulch on the top? I intend to make raised beds this spring (zone 7b) for the first time and I do a lot of research.

  • @groeswenphil

    You advocate polypropylene sheet. Surely it would be OK to use the bags that the compost comes in?

    • @ProjectDiaries
      @ProjectDiaries  7 лет назад +1

      I have seen some Compost using PVC which I don't promote but if the Bag has a 2, 4, or 5 in a triangle that will be find. Just avoid 3, 6, 7 products

  • @bburg1776

    If PVC isn't good is PVC water irrigation pipe ok?

  • @runnerswidow616

    Great Video, I used empty compost bags to line a raised bed, are they PP or PVC?

    • @ProjectDiaries
      @ProjectDiaries  7 лет назад +3

      Usually it will say it on the bottom. Look for a Number 5 in a triangle. They're usually PP or PE-LD which is always good

    I have a problem, I ordered seeds and missed the time that I should have started them indoors, can I still plant them in the ground or should I wait until next year? And how am I going to get all of that work done to raise the beds? I expected to just turn the soil over a few times and plant the seeds. I'm 62, how am I supposed to do all of that hard work? My nephew could do some of the work, but he has back problems from an accident. Help!

    Hi! I'm new to gardening and I'm about the start my square foot garden. Did you put only peat moss alternative at the bottom and only compost and perlite mixture on the top? Doesn't it have to be all 3 mixed up together?

    Hi! I'm just starting out on square foot gardening and I'm going to try out combining it with using ollas as a watering system otherwise I think the soil will dry out too fast here in hot, sunny Spain. Has anybody else tried this combination? Any advice?

    • @ProjectDiaries
      @ProjectDiaries  7 лет назад

      I've never used any watering systems. Just make sure you water very deep in the mornings or after the sun has gone down. Soil only usually dries out by the first few inches but the roots are deeper than that

  • @Gingercat662
    @Gingercat662 3 года назад

    Very helpful, thanks 😊. One question- how do you allow for drainage? Are there drainage holes in the bottom plastic? We get heavy rains and I wouldn’t want it to get waterlogged.

    Cannot find “Polypropylene “ plastic rolls anywhere on the Internet. Any suggestions?

    • @SuperWiz666
      @SuperWiz666 4 года назад

      Check for Polypropylene film. Also check grading and greenhouse supply companies.
      When google doesn't come up with what you are looking for, you probably have used search terms that the industry doesn't use, so use fewer words and look for synonyms.
      One of the great issues with search engines is that you can only find things using the words that other people have used to describe them--if not you simply cannot find it!
      Also, forums on the subject will usually have suppliers listed.
