You're so lovely. Honestly I adore your videos. I was searching for gardeners from my climate(South Ireland) or similar and all I found were either from really hot countries or just weren't clear or way too long. Honestly your videos are gold dust and you're such a pleasure to watch Keep up the fantastic work. You've inspired me to grow because you've made it so accessible Thank you beautiful!!!
Iv always taken a laid back approach to gardening and just grew whatever, wherever but I'm trying this square foot gardening.. There's so many benefits. Obviously we're going all organic.. Iv even taken notice of what I'm feeding my horses as I use their manure in the compost heap.
Hi, I've returned to find your channel and especially the sq foot garden videos. I'm starting out a new channel and small veg plot in a section of my garden. Definitely something I'm trying. Thanks for sharing. Jane
You can find used volleyball or tennis strings that go between the poles for the center if you're growing vertically. It's really easy and usually at most thrift stores for next to nothing.
Thanks for everything I've seen on your videos! You're the only one (maybe among very few gardeners with YT channels) who construct the raised beds with plastic protection on the wood sides! I really wanted to see how it's done and ... there it is! Maybe it would have been even better to apply on the wood panels a layer of some kind of oil, maybe flaxseed oil, in order to protect them over the time and keep out rot and bugs. Regarding raised beds: when constructing them over the existing grass (and weeds) would it be better to pun on the bottom some cardboards? And some mulch on the top? I intend to make raised beds this spring (zone 7b) for the first time and I do a lot of research.
Great Videos.Love it all especially about collect the seeds. I managed to grow an apple tree from seed here in Malaysia. By using the refrigerator for propagation.
I really enjoyed watching your video's .can you suggest any books etc that will tell me how to square foot garden in a veg trug. I have read Mels book many years ago, when I had the space to make beds, but now have only got the veg trug which I bought this year.
i love your vídeos! i started my own garden this year after i had a spinal surgery and i found your channel when i was in the ICU looking for a distraction haha your vids are very helpful and you explain everything very well :)
I've been two whole weeks in the ICU after the surgery 😫 but it was worth it cause i'm doing better, thanks for asking 😊 by the way i'm from Argentina and i practice my English watching your vídeos as well 😁
I have a problem, I ordered seeds and missed the time that I should have started them indoors, can I still plant them in the ground or should I wait until next year? And how am I going to get all of that work done to raise the beds? I expected to just turn the soil over a few times and plant the seeds. I'm 62, how am I supposed to do all of that hard work? My nephew could do some of the work, but he has back problems from an accident. Help!
Hi! I'm new to gardening and I'm about the start my square foot garden. Did you put only peat moss alternative at the bottom and only compost and perlite mixture on the top? Doesn't it have to be all 3 mixed up together?
Hi! I'm just starting out on square foot gardening and I'm going to try out combining it with using ollas as a watering system otherwise I think the soil will dry out too fast here in hot, sunny Spain. Has anybody else tried this combination? Any advice?
I've never used any watering systems. Just make sure you water very deep in the mornings or after the sun has gone down. Soil only usually dries out by the first few inches but the roots are deeper than that
Very helpful, thanks 😊. One question- how do you allow for drainage? Are there drainage holes in the bottom plastic? We get heavy rains and I wouldn’t want it to get waterlogged.
I really enjoy watching your videos! I've been wanting to do a squarefoot garden, the thing is I have dogs who love to dig. Do you have a suggestion or a diagram on how to make a taller raised bed so the dogs won't be able to reach it? Thank you!
Wow, are you sure this takes twenty minutes to tidy that up? Wow, that was a good job well done!! 👏 Also, where did you get all your free supply? So resourceful too!
I have tried this several times but with UK weather it's hard to maintain the right temperature for them. I will hopefully be more successful soon and finish the video...
Tried using clingfilm over the pot to act as a mini greenhouse for the soil and seed? I have seen people make a small hole in the film for the sprouts to grow through
Check for Polypropylene film. Also check grading and greenhouse supply companies. When google doesn't come up with what you are looking for, you probably have used search terms that the industry doesn't use, so use fewer words and look for synonyms. One of the great issues with search engines is that you can only find things using the words that other people have used to describe them--if not you simply cannot find it! Also, forums on the subject will usually have suppliers listed.
We moving some of our in ground plots to raised square foot beds for root crops. Thank you for making this video

I've been wanting to start organic gardening growing own fruits and veg. Is 50 square feet the recommended size for beginners?
I really enjoyed watching your video's .can you suggest any books etc that will tell me how to square foot garden in a veg trug. I have read Mels book many years ago, when I had the space to make beds, but now have only got the veg trug which I bought this year.

i love your vídeos! i started my own garden this year after i had a spinal surgery and i found your channel when i was in the ICU looking for a distraction haha your vids are very helpful and you explain everything very well :)
Oh Wow! Are you better now? I was in ICU for a week a few years back. Glad my videos helped keep you entertained :)
I've been two whole weeks in the ICU after the surgery 😫 but it was worth it cause i'm doing better, thanks for asking 😊 by the way i'm from Argentina and i practice my English watching your vídeos as well 😁
Oh wow! I didn't know I reached that far yet. That's so great! You're English is very good :)
I have 2 rectangular raised beds that I have built - 45 inch x 30 inch - how would you recommend splitting these up in a similar way?
You advocate polypropylene sheet. Surely it would be OK to use the bags that the compost comes in?
I have seen some Compost using PVC which I don't promote but if the Bag has a 2, 4, or 5 in a triangle that will be find. Just avoid 3, 6, 7 products
If PVC isn't good is PVC water irrigation pipe ok?
Great Video, I used empty compost bags to line a raised bed, are they PP or PVC?
Usually it will say it on the bottom. Look for a Number 5 in a triangle. They're usually PP or PE-LD which is always good

Share some photos of your work if you like? facebook.com/groups/projectdiariesHQ
Wouldn't you want to mix the mixture of dry leaves and compost in that square foot thingy?
Vikram Bhaskar yes I would think so.
Can you do a mango tree from seed guide please?
I have tried this several times but with UK weather it's hard to maintain the right temperature for them. I will hopefully be more successful soon and finish the video...

omg,,, it's a lot of hard work
Yeah! It took a whole day but well worth the effort as it can be used year after year.
Project Diaries ,,,, yeah!!!,, that's right
Cannot find “Polypropylene “ plastic rolls anywhere on the Internet. Any suggestions?
Check for Polypropylene film. Also check grading and greenhouse supply companies.

whats perlite for?
I like how you get stuff for free!
Thanks! :)
What is the height of this bed
Could you replace the leaves with straw?
Gordon Pilcher I’m wondering if round up is sprayed on the wheat wouldn’t that effect the straw?
And 100% reason to remember the name
i have a problem with termites
Why do put the leaves and compost in layers?
So they break down quicker
I plan to make it using bricks and not wooden pallets
