- Alcohol doesn't discriminate. If you drink and drive, it could kill or injure someone else or oneself.
Welcome to The Incomplete Skeptic. This is the place where we explore marginalized ideas and the people behind them.
Some of my interviews are not for the faint-hearted, but THIS episode may trigger those whose lives have been impacted by alcohol-impaired driving. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! You're welcome to your POV, but I hope you'll not use inappropriate expressions to describe your opinion. Truth without compassion is cruelty. I will NOT censor anyone's opinion, but outlandish cruelty will be contended with as I see fit.
Since in this episode, we will be talking about prisons and corrections, I must straightaway admit that I am an EX-convict. I have served two major incarcerations and several minor incarcerations. But I am more than my mugshot. I've been out of prison since August of 1990 and sober since August of 90. Connect the Dots. Today’s Guest on The Incomplete Skeptic is the courageous Sondra deWerd. My Guest is sober like me, but unlike me, she is not an Alcoholic.
When I was in the Missouri prison system at Jefferson City, I was trying to educate myself in something more than mere survival, which in that prison was very hard to do. I recall a professor who said, 'It is important to have the courage of our convictions, but it is imperative that we have the courage to question our convictions.' I love that idea. That is what The Incomplete Skeptic is all about.
In this episode, be forewarned that IF you can deal with harsh realities and move past them in our Search for the Holy Grail called Forgiveness, THEN you'll see that forgiveness is more powerful than the offense that calls it to the Round Table. Life on Life's Terms is no easy task.
The Incomplete Skeptic believes that 'Restorative Justice' is one of the best things that has happened to help victims and offenders rediscover and recover their sense of original worth. 'Making direct amends to those we have harmed, except when doing so would injure them or others' is a stellar way to bring peace and healing to the wounded among us. Oprah once opined that we should 'make our wounds our wisdom'.
For me, prison was my metaphorical monastery. The same probably holds true for today's Guest. We discovered as Insiders that if ever healing were more needed, we need to look no further than corrections in the USA and abroad. No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we can use what happened in our lives to help others not do what we did.
Phoenix 490 is a group of Ex-convicts working to make a difference in the system. Our compassionate sense of intelligence will hopefully garner your respect. There is a saying in prison that 'no one comes out the way they went in.' That is true for both convicts and staff.
Here is a one-line snapshot of Sondra's history: she drove drunk and killed two people over a decade ago. Now let's dive into her story.
She's put her life back on track and I felt like I was talking to an old friend when I interviewed her.
