Hello:
this is a very interesting tutorial, but I would love to ask you how to use the Shape Builder Tool as in 2:42, please. It was all too fast and I did not manage to follow it to close the gaps. Thank you!

Select the front of the globe, then open the pathfinder and unite. lastly use the Shapebuiler Tool, just click and drag between the two objects to merge them.

This tutorial was awesome, exactly what I needed! Making me realize I under estimate Symbols. Also for the OP in case it helps, with Shape Builder make sure you both/all objects selected with Direct Selection tool that you want to unite.
