You can critique her voice all you want. It's not just about the voice, it's about all around music and voice put together. My opinion she did a hell of a job regardless if she used Reverb or not. Her voice just makes you want to listen to more!! There's a lot of people that can sing. But to have that catchy voice that makes people want to listen more is what separates you from just another singer. Which sadly not every singer has.

[11:43] it's totally natural to hear a voice with reverb. Every space sounds different. Reverb allows you to 'create' a space. It's still her. Unless you were in an anechoic chamber, you will never 'not' hear reverb. You might want to hear her sing in an 8'x10' concrete dorm room with no processing, but I sure don't, not on youtube, anyway.

Love the review...wondering however, does Stevie sings though compressors, with reverb, etc, or is it straight vocals? I've seem bands live that sound HORRIBLE, (Van Halen by far) but great albums. I've seen bands that sound on stage sound just like the records. (I.e. Skillet, Def Leppard, Ozzy, etc..)
Sam this is so helpful with the way you explain why she sounds so good - I know singers who get so discouraged when they don't have that reverby/compressed sound!
13:06 I studied music and singing and worked as a graphic designer at a recording studio. I had the privilege of watching and listening recordings of celebrity singers take place. Yes, I recognize her voice is being enhanced by reverb, but she has an amazing voice with or without reverb. Calling her voice “photoshopped” is not a fair characterization. It’s not the same to have Photoshop take off 100lbs to have Photoshop make lipstick a tiny touch glossier. The amount of “Photoshop” in this case is so minimal that it is negligible. To all the haters, record yourself with reverb and see if you can match this output. 😉 She is truly amazing with or without that touch of “makeup.”
Hi iv listened to a lot of reactions of the girl and this song and your the only one that has said about it's a finished product and the mic is doing loads more well done great review
I learned many things he says her about 50 years ago. I was chosen to be a member of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra Chorus. Went on tour to NY and sand in ?Carnegie hall when I was 20, in 1975. I tell this to confirm what I am hearing here, starting with relaxing the jaw and dropping the jaw, is correct technique. I have never heard of this young man but he is teaching this correctly.
please react to Wardruna + Aurora - Helvegen (pronounced “hell”-vay-gen) live! it’s incredible, words cannot describe. make sure it’s the one on Wardruna’s YT account :) Wardruna is a Norwegian band who likes to tie their sound and look back to Ancient Norse/Viking era and the poem/eulogy the singer preaches at the end of the performance is a VERY old poem (forgot the name) and it’s spoken in Old Norse :). They’re absolutely amazing. The lead singer who you would see singing with Aurora is named Einar!! edit: i will add,, the meaning of the song is about death and dying and remembering those who have passed. einar has said before that while he was writing the song, he knew that before (like a thousand years ago), we used to have songs for everything. people would sing their dying loved ones to the other side as they passed, and Einar thought: “who would sing to me? who would remember me when I go?” that’s basically the premise of the song, there are subtitles in the performance video :D
There are many people who are very extremely unique in their own voice , which many of the standard voice teaching techniques don’t apply, Selena was one as well. Lanie in my opinion, along with millions of others have agreed. This performance to me and millions of others believe her version of this song is bars above the original. As you know, this industry is immensely a tough industry to get noticed, her uniqueness, in singing this song, including, her then persona and body language, is what brought her to this high level of notoriety. Looking at ways to improve on that performance, to me, is a tough task. It’s like don’t fix something that’s not broke. Remember, the scale of success in this industry, is the amount of the fan base, the person holds; fans equal sales.
She sounds like this. Dude, you missed it, really bad. You are suppose to know what is going on. But, this is a live version, no processing. Too bad, you don't know what you are talking about. Cheers.

I’ve done a lot of recordings on this mic, so I’ve mastered pulling away on louder parts to make it sound as level as possible. So that plays in too. Thanks for taking a listen and sharing. I appreciate all the kind words 🥰 beautiful voice as well!:
sam, its better sing in head voice or chest voice? love your videos, kisses from brazil
I’m not a music person, I am a photographer. I can totally relate to the comparison of Photoshop part of what you said.
She’s got another song out that I’d like to hear you critique. Great job!!!
Great review. I love the critique. Very constructive.
esta chica tiene una voice increible y tu queda te en tu sitio .......
Can someone please tell me what microphone she uses?
Love the review...wondering however, does Stevie sings though compressors, with reverb, etc, or is it straight vocals? I've seem bands live that sound HORRIBLE, (Van Halen by far) but great albums. I've seen bands that sound on stage sound just like the records. (I.e. Skillet, Def Leppard, Ozzy, etc..)
Great analysis!
Sam this is so helpful with the way you explain why she sounds so good - I know singers who get so discouraged when they don't have that reverby/compressed sound!
She is absolutely amazing... this clearly shows haters will hate
Love your channel Sam!!! New sub here
Great analysis of the recording.
Excelente comentario. Análisis justo.
Hi iv listened to a lot of reactions of the girl and this song and your the only one that has said about it's a finished product and the mic is doing loads more well done great review
This guy is way off.... She is Amazing!
Woooooooow I love how you pointed out all the little technicalities like the processing and her mic. Love your analysis!!

@@Jhorne9040 you keep posting the same thing. She sounds very different in her video and Instagram post.
Such an amazing voice, liked it more than the original one. I am going to another video so I dont hear all the negative comments
please react to Wardruna + Aurora - Helvegen (pronounced “hell”-vay-gen) live! it’s incredible, words cannot describe. make sure it’s the one on Wardruna’s YT account :)
Wardruna is a Norwegian band who likes to tie their sound and look back to Ancient Norse/Viking era and the poem/eulogy the singer preaches at the end of the performance is a VERY old poem (forgot the name) and it’s spoken in Old Norse :).
Helpful, as always.
Is anyone able to tell me if Sam has done a react to Avi Kaplan before I go down the rabbit hole of searching ? Thank you 👍
She sounds like this. Dude, you missed it, really bad. You are suppose to know what is going on. But, this is a live version, no processing. Too bad, you don't know what you are talking about. Cheers.
So a non reverb no compression no auto tune sound is exactly what you want to get an idea of what Laney sounds like. That’s exactly why she got a sound engineer/ producer!!🤣🎸😎🏹🐗
I want to hear YOU sing it WITH processing and let's see how you sound.
