    • @israeliteinpanama3263
      @israeliteinpanama3263 4 года назад +10

      @@forgednotcast612 It depends on your AGE and plans you choose.
      Aged 60 + will pay about $450 for a good private plan, such as Blue Cross-Blue Shield Panama. Also Johns Hopkins has a hospital here in the city, but i'm not sure of its plan prices.
      For younger person figure about half of $450 per month.
      Public health care is free for permanent residents (with small fees paid before service in clinics and hospitals), and free for tourists with less than 30 days in country, especially life threatening accidents, etc.
      I hope this answers some of your questions.

    • @forgednotcast612
      @forgednotcast612 4 года назад +5

      @@israeliteinpanama3263 I appreciate your answer. Wow, $450.00 a month is not cheap. For an expat trying to retire with $1,500 to even $2,500 a month in Social Security and or Pension , that's a big chunk of money. I understand that medical procedures and medications are cheaper but that's not an inexpensive premium.

    1. Where do you get your mail forwarded
    2. Did you switch banks
    3. Are you getting a storage unit in US
    4. Taxes (still filing US tax returns?) ... hopefully that's not too personal - you can skip it if it is

      Thanks so much for these suggestions Georgia. We are planning a video on 120 day, 90 day, 60 day and 30 day countdown checklists prior to moving. We are going to cover all of these items in future videos but I'll go ahead an answer for you here. 1. Where do you get your mail forwarded

      ** Set up a Mailboxes Etc. (or similar) account in Panama. They give you a Miami address and forward your mail to Panama within 2-3 days
      2. Did you switch banks
      ** If applying for a permanent residency visa, you will need to open a Panama bank account. We are keeping U.S. accounts also... for now.
      3. Are you getting a storage unit in US
      ** No, we are selling or giving away everything. Some people do though. We probably will have a storage unit in Panama but they are not expensive
      4. Taxes (still filing US tax returns?) ... hopefully that's not too personal - you can skip it if it is
      ** Not too personal at all. If earning money from the U.S., you still have to file. However, Panama does not tax offshore income.
      5. What type of Visa are you getting and does it require that you return to the states periodically
      ** Friendly Nations Visa which is one of the easiest in the world to get. If you are retirement age and receive $1000/month, apply for the
      Pensionado Visa. You get all kinds of discounts on food, airfare, hotels, medications, etc. No requirement to return to the U.S. as these are
      permanent residency visas. The only requirement is that you enter Panama once every 2 years, otherwise you forfeit your resident status.
      6. How long did it take to get that Visa mentioned above
      ** Typically 4-5 months but you know how it is with covid. Immigration is still only operating at 25% so you should start the process ASAP.

    This was excellent information. If you have information on the type if Visa you need for those of us not old enough to be retired, that would be great. @ChosenFewExpats  4 года назад +4

      Thanks so much for your kind words and for taking the time to watch. The Friendly Nations Visa is the best one to get for a non-retiree. The process is fairly easy but will take 4-6 months... maybe longer under covid.
      As for jobs, many careers are slated for only Panamanians and companies can only hire 10% foreigners. On top of this the wages are much lower than what you are used to here (although the cost of living is lower as well). The best options are to get a job with a U.S. company that has a facility in Panama or start an online business you can work from anywhere. I wanted a fully furnished one bedroom apartment because shipping my stuff here from Florida was going to be way too expensive: over $6,000 not including Panama port charges! San Andreas Island Colombia is great to visit. It is located east of Nicaragua (spelling?). The water is fantastic color and there is shopping and restaurants. We visited a couple small islands that were fun and one you could walk out on a narrow sand bar with very shallow water. There were colored fish and we got to those two small islands in a boat. You might just like Cartagena, but be cautious when out. I would definitely visit San Andreas Island again in the future. Only negative might be the variety of food seemed kinda limited to mostly rice, beans, beef, and plantains.

      Hi Taryn. I too will be visiting Panama in December. to "feel it out". I recently starting researching Panama for retirement. I got so excited to see Panama for myself tat I canceled our Christmas trip to Puerto Rico and switched to Panama instead. I hope that we both enjoy our time in Panama and maybe will find our future homes!

      Good switch. Puerto Rico is good it's not cheap. For the price you may as well come to Panama for more beautiful sights and activities.

    i just found your channel. I've been researching Mexico, BUT......Panama is really looking good! I'm single 'mature' aged woman living alone and want to be as near the water as possible. I don't want to live in the city though, prices are just like here in Texas. How can I find information about the best places to rent outside the city? Thanks.
