I like the way you think and I like the way you teach. There are a lot of music education videos on this thing but not many approach octatonic scales or balancing them, so having this come up in my feed was a tasty and accessible introduction to your channel.

As someone who only had basic high school understanding of music theory, this feels like a great place to learn even more music concepts. Loving the vids sirvalor!!

I was doing a modal triad pair thing that looked like this D dorian example GBDFA. I'm not much of a jazz person but everything your saying and playing sounds great. Thank you.

Actually man, good job. I like it. 👍 Simple is better. I know everything about what you were saying, and some of the "theory" is definitely too confusing or historically relevant to be useful in application today, and people that think they know everything will generate more confusion, but the reality is you just have to know enough and hear well enough to be able to play properly. When I come across that back cycling, I'm going to apply what you teach here to see if it helps. And I agree with a re-label to Dorian maj7 for the melodic minor that's not referring to the ascending/descending melodic minor from classical. Dorian Maj7 was coined "jazz minor" at some point, with the 7th mode referred to as Altered Dominant or Super Locrian. Have a great day Adrien. 🎷

Nice do you sell your books in paper form?

I bet you could use a Barry Harris diminished on those extra notes. I view this technique more as passing tones or going chromatic.

Is there a similar technique (adding 3rd or 7th) for minor scales?

I would really like you to analyse Monks version of "Liza" by Gershwin.

I just play what I feel. I don't have to know all this mode stuff and I don't have to read music. I don't need to know any of this.
