Hot Dang! This song kicks major butt !!! Can't stop playin' it, just ask my neighbors! always said Mac Davis was right and happiness was Lubbock in my rear view. Engaging in outrageous behavior fueled by various vices forced my hand. Burned my bridges down to the ground and had to L E A V E running, but that is beside the point ! lol hahaha! I have some good friends that I reconnected with via suckerbergbook, and that is what I miss most about Lubbock now that I an 63 years old, Saved, clean, and sober. Unfortunately, I am used to making mad $$ here in North Texas that Lubrock cannot match, but I do get to leave Dallas when the bell rings and escape to a peaceful and relatively small town. (one that is being ruinated by nuevo carpet baggers ! 😎)
'63 y/o body 17 y/o brain' for the win! Peace out, 2dh...
Don't get no better than that 😅
Génial ???❤️
There's no other place on Earth like West Texas, and this song perfectly captures the feel of the Flatlands (among other things).
Buy the album "Downey to Lubbock" you will not be sorry. 👍✌
Thank you
Downey bound 😅
Love this
One of my favorite song. And that black haired girl with red flower and red lipstick... I'm in love with her 😍
Yowza!🥰
Tonight in Auburn! Can’t wait!
As a hippy of the late 60s and early 70s, don't see how I didn't know about the Blasters. It's right up my alley.
I first found them in the movie STREETS OF FIRE in 1984!
"Surely mostly would." Classic Texas-speak!
This is the first song I'm aware of that mentions my old home town (at least for 6 years), Downey. (I think Lubbock might be mentioned in a few songs by the Flatlanders guys.) I went to Downey High, whereas the Alvin brothers went to our crosstown rival, Warren, but I was a few years ahead of them anyway. On the other hand, I was in the same grade level as Karen Carpenter, although I didn't know her. She was in the marching band. I was on the drill team.
Every time I hear this song I’m guaranteed to miss my exit every time
One of a kind, each of you, gotta catch you again,...
I ust noticed the bassist is the same dude playing live in the John Doe Folk trio.
Why not Azusa or Monrovia bound?😊
Yes
In a just world this would be a top 40 song.
New Waylon Jennings And Willie Nelson¡!!! For Reals!!¡
John Lee Hooker's boyhood home burned down to the ground. He salvaged enough wood from the fire, to make a six string electric guitar out of it!
Never forget: YOUR way will always be through Lubbock, TX.
The two old they still fuckin great
Yep!
Saw these two at Shank Hall in Milwaukee. Tickets were $ 35.00 and the stage was 30 feet from the men's room door. Joe Bonamassa is playing the Riverside Theater in March. $350.00 for a seat about the same distance from the stage. And I think Dave is the more talented of the two. Love that he plays these smaller venues so guys like me can afford to see his shows.
Fuckin'-A man...
Saw these two on Long Island for a similar ticket price.... Like you said, a great show that doesn't require taking out a second mortgage to buy tix.
Someone who gives a damn for the working class. His dad was a union organizer. He's a man with soul who knows what it is to work hard for the dollar.
The best shows have no seats.
I was there.
Ill post here and everywhere , when it pertains to Dave Alvin the most underrated guitarist , just a power force .
This was a match made in heaven, two very individualistic iconoclasts, who have each charted their own very unique paths, and have not given a shit about mass commercial appeal, and have won the love & devotion of very passionate music lovers….. “May the Lord bless the doin’ of it”, as the great Irish playwrite Sean O’Casey put it….🙏🎶☘️🎭😎
Three things happened today
1. My friend said he does not like Dave Alvin.
2. My friend got ran over by a bus.
3. I lost my bus driver's license.
Tragic. I hope the bus is okay.
I live in Palo Alto but drove an hour to HSB to see this group sing this song, especially whenJimmie says "i'm an old flat lander" 1:08 then went home. Not sure i finished the set. just wanted to hear that one song, one phrase. (There were about 100 other bands to see but I had me a JDG jones...)
Now this is awesome Outlaw County
thanks , very nice song
Lived in downey for a year. Was too young for the Ashgrove which still makes me sad. The best musicians played there.
Every once in a long while, at age 60 you run into something new, different, built on the shoulders of the giants that came before... and yet, this newness came at a lifetime of experiences, outside of the ones that walked before... Alvin and Gilmore build on that rich heritage and make it theirs, an amazing treat. Thanks guys, the whole band!
Well said, my friend. I feel it too.
Did I see Steve Vai in that video?
This song is in my head always & forever! This video is so fabulous! That’s me & my magical friends! (Black hair, red lips, cheetah print, red rose, smilin’ dancin’ lovin’ fool) Thank you Nancy, Dave & Jimmy & cast & crew! So honored to be a part of this rock ‘n roll history! Ukulena hits the screen with the legends! How cool!
Wow Wow waaaa!!
You did well ukulena.
I say this from the point of view of someone who has been in a couple three music videos himself (with my band back in South Africa): You were magnificent.
The music is amazing...How very cool that you were there! oh, and btw...you are beautiful.
Awesome tune, your dancing makes it real not just a music video! Excellent
London tonight looking forward to it!
Good on ya'!!!
Two legends
I challenge anyone to sit still during this video. Dave Alvin on the Stratocaster and Jimmie Dale Gilmore on the harp with the strong beats laid down by the drums and bass makes it impossible to keep from moving. All this and topped off with Ukulena and friends bringing the video to life!🤩
Glasgow tonight. Great Scottish welcome awaits. Legends.
Aces. Scotland is a wonderful place to see live music. I hope that it was a great time had by all!
Globe Educational Services Ltd : cheers. It was a superb gig. Hopefully we can all soon get back to enjoying live music again.
@@DavidTransformer Aces! For sure!! It's going to be quite a party when all of this is done.
Oh! That voice ❤

Strat into super: oh yeah!
Hadn't heard them before tonight , but I'm an instant fan
Sooo glad Dave & Jimmie Dale are coming to Baton Rouge Manship Theater November 16th. Can't wait, Guys. Always loved the music & lyrics of the Flatlanders. Your young & "old" fans know great music when we hear it. Keep on playing.

That's how an Old Flatlander and a Wild Blues Blaster put down a track!
Hell yeah you got that right brother..My feet have a mind of their own ...
I love that line!
Dave and his brother had a band called 'The Blasters'.
Hell yeah! There was a number of years that I saw Dave at least once per year. The first time was at the Star Bar with Fred Eaglesmith opening. What a show. The only time I saw Jimmy Dale was in Chattanooga with the Flatlanders. I REALLY need to get out to see them again.

Wow, Fred and Dave on the same bill. Would have blown my mind.
@@flyingpaperwings I was, and am a huge Dave Alvin fan, I was there to see Dave. By the end of the opening set I was a huge Fred Eaglesmith fan as well. To make it even better it was in a room that held MAYBE 70-80 people if it was packed. I bought the Drive-in Movie CD from Fred that night and it was the only thing he had to offer. So I'm guessing that was 1998 or 1999.
FWIW: The other best show I saw in that room was the first time I saw Alejandro Escovedo. He was traveling with his big band, I think he called it an orchestra. I had no idea who he was but a friend called me up on about an hours notice and said he would pay my way in if I drove him to and from in his car using his gas. How could I refuse? So, an hour later we were off on a 150 mile round trip for the show. The icing on the cake was Kelly Hogan standing in with him for several songs.
This is what real music sounds like.
Saw this show in a small venue. It ruled!
The best i saw dave live rocks
Experienced both Dave and Jimmie at HSB, and Dave with brother Phil at both HSB and Strawberry Music Festival . They continue to provide outstanding genre fusionised southern roadhouse bluesy rock n soul. Amen.
DAAAAAAAAAAAMN....GOOD STUFF......ROAD HOUSE BOOGIE..
THAT'S HOT!
whos the guy on that cello behind them? look like the white buffalo
who is the HOT chick in black & white??
@Provoked Brittany what league is she in??
She has said when asked she actually lives in Hawaii she answered a few comments and questions people had she seems to be good people
These two are awesome together, love this kind of music!!
Love it great rock and roll
Como gosto de ouvir e ver este vídeo sem conta.🎧🌵🏜️🪐🪱
Again - how can there be any thumbs down - don't hear JDG sing like this so much - GREAT
Killer.
Since his tour in Vietnam, my big brother Dennis, has introduced me to great music and amazing bands. To have a brother with similar tastes in music, movies and books is remarkable and has made life a fun journey. I am Tully blessed. Texas blues hits my heart and my southern roots. Dave wrings every note he can from his well loved and well worn axe. He puts together amazing artists showcasing their talent and sharing that talent with us. I don't want to to stick Dave in "Texas Blues" I think instead Southern Blues at its best and brightest wraps Dave and his band up nicely. Hard driving. Growling. Sexy. Rocking Blues and thank you God for it and Dave Alvin!
Well hey to my homeboys and homegirls 👋 I am wondering who is real star of this video ? Dave or Freakin Paul Body AKA Hub City Slim. 🤣

Two of the best, love them both.
For sure! I have so many of their CD's that I may as well dedicate that part of the studio to them.

I've worked the Zoo Bar years in my college days, and both of these voices were formative. When they stopped by for a mid tour pop up show, and at only $15 cover, it was a steal. Hard to believe it was pre COVID
Great! Cool!
love this shit, hard to find a Road house these days with road house music
so geil....!!!!!!!
The groove just shreds. Two of my faves. 30 years ago, I used to see the Blasters and Los Lobos at the Warfield in San Francisco. Every 4 or 5 months they would come back, and the bands would flip the top spot!! Must have seen them 10-12 times in those days. Dave is still one of my favorite guitar players and singers. Great to see the same strat you've been playing for so many years!! Sound is like cutting steel! Amazing!! And Jimmie...may God shine his love down on you and continue to bless you. You continue to break my heart with your amazing voice!!
Funny...I grew up in & lived in the next town South of Downey, Norwalk. When Dave and Phil first started showing up on the circuit for the rockabillies as "the Blaster's", we waited for the free paper to hit the stands telling us where the action would be for the weekend.
My daughter's middle name is marie.everytime that song came on, I told her "the boys" wrote that for her! What's the harm?! Made a kid feel awesome!
Man! Memories! I had a great time in those days!
Thanks, Dave!
$zm..from long Beach.. burning dope...music's so loud !

I love you BOTH so much! Great Album Collaboration, Jimmie Dale Gilmore with Dave Alvin. Loved seeing you when this album was a "secret" at the Old Church in Portland - and now from Athens, leaving tomorrow for Atlanta to see you perform at The City Winery. YEAH. Congratulations! Love this VIDEO. Happy Birthday 11-11-18 to DAVE. XO

Just saw them perform tonight at Chickie Wah Wah in New Orleans! Great show!
Where's the bar where this video was made?
Found it. It's The Cinema Bar in Culver City, CA.
New Dave Alvin fan, just getting started - love this song!
Same here. Check his albums Ashgrove and Eleven Eleven.
Thanks, I will! Just bought "Blackjack David", love it so far. "Eleven Eleven" will be next on the list.
You want to get a real taste of Dave, get the live stuff ! Out in California... or better yet, The Great American Music Galaxy
Thanks, I'll look into them! I've been watching a lot of his live performances and they're great, most of the time I like them better than the original recordings. His interaction with the audience is always fun too.
He can do it all, write, sing, play, rock, blues, 'Folk'/Americana.
Great songwriter!
Video is really well done !
Indeed! I have watched a fair number of times, even though I have the CD.
Sounds good ... Downey Boy
So, just remember, all you kids, your grandpa knows how to lay that music down.
This gives me memories of the Ash Grove on Melrose back in the 1970"s,
@@larrylinn8589 I lived in LA but was too young to go to Ashgrove. I missed out on alot of great 🎶
Let's not forget that DAVE wrote "Marie, Marie," which became a Zydeco hit!

I'm fleein CA soon. From Downey to Fort Worth!
Here's hoping that is working out for you!
Cowboy boot blues.
Came to checkout the song, stayed for the brunette with the flower in her hair...oh my.
The Dude : Walter, ya know, it's Smokey, so his toe slipped over the line a little, big deal. It's just a game, man.
Walter Sobchak : Dude, this is a league game, this determines who enters the next round robin. Am I wrong? Am I wrong?
Smokey : Yeah, but I wasn't over. Gimme the marker Dude, I'm marking it 8.
Walter Sobchak : [pulls out a gun] Smokey, my friend, you are entering a world of pain.
Yeah, we get it. You saw him in a cameo in The Big Lebowski, but he was a singing legend decades before that.
I have 10,002 favorite songs and this is the LATEST !!
You made me. Cheers!
Good tune. Heard it for the first time this morning. I'm jamming out now.
Two legendary singers..great album..great guitar work...rock on boys!!!!I have been to the "Ashgrove" !! Just saw them in Solana Beach, Ca. Epic performance..If you get a chance catch them you will not be disappointed.

Badass music...damn what a groove, beat, vocals.. Great stuff. Along with Harlan county line, which I'm only 10 miles from..
One of them singers has been known to cheat at bowling.
Dank u wel
davealvinofficial
Randy... you tuning son of a bitch!
I love, love, love Dave Alvin's music. And I love this song. I've seen Dave over a dozen times. But I wished the rest of the album was as good as this song is. More of a Dave backing Jimmie Dale Gilmore kind of record.
Texas Blues with a Willie Nelson vibe mixed in. Awesome!
Saw them at a pop-up show in Lincoln Nebraska's Zoo Bar, left without socks.
Saw em in 1982... haven't gone home yet.
Truly enjoyed this. 😃
Rock on forever Dave Alvin!
Get thee to one of their performances---( it's on your bucket list, right?)
Absolutely fantastic tune. Thanks for uploading this gem.
Looking forward to tonight. Never seen y'all before. Welcome to Savannah.
