What is the most glaring testament to George's integrity and humility is the fact that it never occurs to him to ask anyone in that town for a dime. He knows how hard they struggle just to get through the day. These are qualities handed down from his father, a moral fiber he would never compromise.

And then you have a better appreciation about the fact that $8000 "went missing". Over the years many devotees of this film have asked the question why nothing every seems to happen about Potter stealing the money. Frank Capra was asked about it long after the fact and I think he answered that it didn't serve the true focus of the story? The real story is about George and the goodness of the people of Bedford Falls. It's almost like Voldemort in HP... ending up in a hell of his own making in "King's Cross". He's not interested in the goodness of the people around him and is not capable of helping or sharing joys with others.

I started tearing up right at the very first reaction shown. This movie has been my most favorite of all time ever since I first discovered lo, those many years ago, when it was continually shown on all available channels on a 24/7 basis during the Christmas season. I literally drove my family up the wall because I would surf the channels looking for it and then start watching wherever it was and then go all the way through the way until the end. Then, I would repeat the process all over again. I have the entire dialogue completely memorized from start to finish.

Oh lordy, THIS MOVIE!! This scene leaves me in tears every time. And, the scene where young George stops a grief-stricken Mr. Gower from mistakenly putting poison in those pills - that WRECKS me. This movie and "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" invite us to set aside the cynicism and pettiness that we're taught by life and embrace love, unselfishness, and humanity. So glad to see a new audience enjoying it!

The movie is about George and all the people he helped but damn if Mary isn't the MVP (Most Valuable Partner). It was Mary who put up the $2000 honeymoon fund so they could keep the Building and Loan open at the worst part of the Great Depression and it was Mary's connections (especially with Sam) that made it possible for this final scene to happen. We all should be so lucky as to have a spouse that strong and supportive!

I've actually watched tons of reactions for that scene because it's such an interesting directoral choice - everyone laughs at the beginning of the phrase and then they're in shock...just an outstanding scene.

My church did a musical version of “It’s a Wonderful Life” And at the end we we have Clarence his wings! At the end while the rest of the cast is singing Christmas carols we make it snow on the stage by using soap suds in these snow machines and as it’s snowing and we’re singing a spotlight appears on top of the Bailey Building and Loan prop we used and the guy playing Clarence steps into the spotlight while joining in the caroling and the audience sees these absolutely beautiful giant white angels wings on his back and let me tell on all three nights of shows we did, that part of the show the audience was on their feet cheering and clapping so loudly with tears in their eyes and we got a standing ovation every night and every night we had so many people come up to us afterwards and asked to be saved and asked how to know Jesus. It truly was so powerful

Can you imagine how Uncle Billy must have felt, believing he was the one everyone else blamed? I would have been complete devastated because I, too, have experienced feeling like that. Yet, at the end, I also see an expression in his eyes that shows relief and forgiveness for himself.

When Clarence explained to George that his brother Harry died at age 9 when he broke through the ice, George loses it completely. “That’s a Lie! Harry Bailey went to war! He got the Congressional Medal of Honor! He saved the life of every man on that ship!” Clarence says “No George, every man on that ship died! Harry wasn’t there to save them, because you weren’t there to save Harry!”. Then later Harry flies through a snowstorm to be with George and toast his big brother.
Let’s not forget Sam Wainwright. I always thought of him as kind of a shallow wise guy, but he really came through for George. That killed me…
