Elevate Your Career - How to elevate your career and get promoted at work.
In this video I’m going to talk about the first step you need to do to elevate your career, before you do anything else.
Let me tell you a story.
This fly that was stuck behind a window.
It was a flurry of frantic, forceful energy, desperately fighting against the windowpane, struggling to get outside. It wanted to be free, and it was trying harder and harder…
You can imagine right… But trying harder wasn’t working.
The fly believed that going through the window was the only way to get to the other flies out there enjoying the freedom.
And the poor fly didn’t realize…
Just ten feet away, with just a few seconds of flight-there was an open door… completely open. But the fly didn’t even think of looking that that direction… a simple shift would have given the fly the so much desired freedom.
MOST professionals are like that fly.
They’ll keep doing hitting against the window and would never look at the door.
Now working hard and doing your job well is a good thing, right?
But… like freedom for that fly… your career success doesn’t come from just more effort, more energy, more sweat, more long hours... more missed dinners with your family, more last minute emails instead of watching a movie with your spouse or going to the gym or meeting with your bestie you haven’t seen in ages… more frustration, more guilt, more disappointment.
The reality is…
It comes from a few short moves. Moves of sudden grace.
Too often, working hard professionals think in terms of incremental growth. Slow addition. Putting in the hard yards to get the ball down the field.
But when you think like a strategic pro...
When Strategic pros use the 3 steps that I’m going to walk you through and go ALL IN on themselves, they become who they need to be, they get a quantum leap.
They run through that open door and take control of their careers.
They look beyond working hard and they become the person they need to be.
And that’s why
Strategic pros are able to do more in 3 months than slogging pros do in 3 years to upgrade their career
Strategic pros go ‘ALL IN’ on themselves and fulfil their potential.
Now when it comes to careers, Sloggin pros are waiting to be picked..
they go with the company cycles of performance reviews, in terms of their career, are passive, they are waiting around for someone else to notice, hoping that in one of the performance reviews they are going to get the pay rise and promotion they deserve but it hasn't been happening for a while
And the reason why?
They never decided.
They never decided for themselves that they wanted to be picked
They lack focus on where they are going
And when you don’t know the destination you're heading for…
how are you going to get there?
You end up going to random places and that's exactly what’s been happening.
You get somewhere but the likelihood of getting where you want to…
Without deciding… is unlikely and random.
Strategic Pro make a decision.
Strategic pros decide on their destination - the title, the promotion, the pay rise, the goal, the date, the scope, the success criteria.
And They work out the path ONCE they know where they are going.
Strategic pros go all in and become the person they need to be…
…to get where they want to get to..
And If you’re going to do this then you too are going to have to DECIDE
- that is step number 1. DECIDE.
