I think he’s a really smart dude, he understands what’s expected of him and the team, he knows and admits that he has zero experience and he’s open and excited about it and for it. I honestly think he’ll be a good coach. He knows the game so well. He’s been coached by the games best, he’s played along side the games best, and with his podcasts he talks about the game with the best at the highest level. He’s seen it and heard it and broke it all down the passed 3 years while broadcasting, reporting, analyzing, doing pods, I think despite the lack of coaching experience he’s still ready for this job. The biggest, hardest, most important thing of it all will be getting the players on the roster to believe and go all in with him. If he has the players trust and their belief I think they can actually make some noise in the deep deep west.

It wouldn't surprise me to learn that after listening to J.J.'s press release that some, if not all players would be showing an act of solidarity, if everyone cleaned out and straightened out their lockers. As an OCD'er myself, I would find that pretty 😎. But the biggest thing I took from this press conference was the sheer joy on Rob's face after hearing many of J.J.'s responses, which, in and of themselves should put to rest some of the sketics, both fans and talking heads media. There are podcasters who play and have played the game and know J.J. well, like DeAndre Jordan who gave a brilliant assessment of what to expect and more significantly he and J.J. both stated that "no head coach can be "prepared " for everything in the beginning regardless of experience. True. Note Doc Rivers coach of the Celtics and post Celtics career. Phil Jackson post the Jordan era. Brad Stevens the coach vs. Brad Stevens the GM. There are no certainties in sports except how one chooses to show up. But the difference between Rob's reactions listening to Darvin Ham (flat but supportive) vs. J.J. (joyful, impressed, collaborative) were night and day. Darvin is a great orator and great at speaking authoritatively. J.J. hit every nail on the head with every question allowing for more intelligent media questions. This is one of the most refreshing videos of the Lakers organization that I have seen in a while. Skeptical fans really should kill the chirping cricket noise, be quite for a while, listen, and learn and just let it all play out and then come back with whatever feedback is appropriate. As for the talking heads "professional" media, for many but certainly not all of them, chirping is all they know. Let the newest version of The Show Time Lakers begin.
