Pay no mind to the hordes of “last men” with no ears to hear. Seeing John Cage Bubbelgum Live has always been to visit an Oracle, not in the flesh, but as the sound. Stereolab has returned to greatness. They no longer suck. The 21st century may now resume.

Not gonna lie, I shed a few tears feeling her absence. Quick story in her honor. 1997 after the show me and a friend were waiting outside the venue in hopes to get autographs. The security lady was being bitchy and Mary walks out front and we talk for a few minutes and asks if we wanted to meet the rest of the band. Of course we followed her inside with the security lady mad dogging us. She was the sweetest, kindest person I’ve ever met, no exaggeration.

Surprising what non-fancy equipment they have: Fender guitars and bass, probably not top-of-the-line, an beat-up Ludwig drumkit, and the main keyboardist uses an old Wurly piano and some kind of early Roland preset synth. Goes to show that it's not what you have, it's how musically you use it.

I think the best part of stereolab is cut out here - live. The intricacies in the sound of the albums was what it was all about, about the production, editing, depth of an intense passion in studio sound and recording production - they still hold the bar the highest in sound in the albums - without it its fun music though more of a rock/pop thing comes out of this live sound..... I have a big stack of their albums - and have put them in the bin labeled psychidelic, some would disagree, but the albums are so dynamic that they qualify in my opinion. For me it's not a live band, though I do consider them a Chicago band - despite their being a well traveled band and from everywhere, Chicago was always like home base and I totally accept it as the Chicago sound, given the nature of underground 90s Chicago music we grew up on in the city, they are like the template and a very cool addition to the foundation music here as our sound differs from anywhere else.
