Devastating…one of the cases you pray it all happened quickly and they didn’t even realize what happened. Not sure if they were all tied in together, but I would assume so. I am not familiar with the area.
Avalanche or a roped fall. They'd be buried under ice or in a crevasse. Unfortunately that's the main cause of disappearances on big mountains. Its very rare to ever find anything. Sometimes a shoe or a back pack. A few pics you showed were Mt Sefton, not mt Cook. But im sure they get the idea.
That's what is puzzling to me too.. I think maybe one of them had an accident or fall and the others were trying to help.. it's very hard for me to believe they all fell and died at the same time..especially so early on in the hike.. but🤷♂️thank you for watching and your thoughts!

I remember seeing this in the recent news and thinking that the search was over so quickly. The announcement of death without any obvious supporting evidence seems rather precipitous.
Trust me, this is so par for the course with the NZ police. I remember in the mid 90s when a girl went missing, later found in a ditch deceased with her hands tied behind her back and no clothes on .. NZP deducted that she did it herself. Yep.. OK..
This is so sad!! My prayers go out to their families .I wondering perhaps they indured a avalanche of sorts??? I pray they'll be found and hopefully by a miracle alive...🙏🙏
Have you covered the case of Sandra Johnsen-Hughes? It seems like you have but I don't recall. Would you be willing to do an updated video. There are no new developments but the case is interesting and if you dig a bit you will find a spooky story of a couple and there young son who saw a "gohst/apparition" that they believed to be The missing woman. I camp/hike the area she went missing from every year and even stumbled upon the place her car went off trail. There were still pieces of the front bumper, flip flops, a folding chair and large water container there. There has been no trace of her since July 4th 2020. Keep up the good storytelling. I'm always looking forward to your next episode. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 🎉

If they were all professional climbers they should have known the value of of at least one personal locator beacon! Unless they were caught in an avalanche. Sad! ☹️ Happy Holidays Bryan! ☃️
That's a possibility and something that has been considered. They have special technology that can scan the mountains to see if there were any cave ins, rock and snow movements, etc.. it's pretty incredible some of the technology that's available these days! Who knows what happened but it's probably something that happened very fast with little to no time to react.. I hope and pray that one way or another they are found and brought back to their families 🙏Thank you for watching and your feedback! Wishing you a Happy Holiday Season 🙏🌲🤗
I heard about this case recently. I think it’s possible that all 3 of them may have had a mishap while tethered together. Or, they may have perished in an avalanche. It’s summer there and not the worst winter ❄️ weather. Surely these certified climbers 🧗 had a satellite 📡 rescue 🆘device. They knew how treacherous this mountain is. I know that after this length of time they could still be found alive but I don’t understand why the search was called off so quickly. My thoughts and prayers go out to their friends and family. 👍☮️🌞🗻⛺️🥾🎒
Yes, the timing of the search being called off is unfortunate.:( but yes you're right that maybe what happened, happened so fast, they didn't have any time to react..
Yes, PLB epirb. All climbers are supposed to carry one, but lots dont. They probably have one, but this seems like an avalanche situation. They wouldn't have time to dig it out.
My heart goes out to the three men, and their family and loved ones. I hope they are found alive, and that they will return to their homes and families. Prayers for all of them. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Outstanding channel here, with top-notch storytelling; I especially appreciate that it covers international content. Have you ever covered the disappearance of 23 year-old Canadian hockey player Duncan MacPherson who went missing in 1989 while skiing alone in the Austrian Alps? The discovery of his frozen body - and the dark story it tells - was covered in a Fifth Estate episode, though I don't know how widespread their reach is. I continue to hope that one day the mystery of MacPherson's tragic demise will be solved.
Thank you so much for watching and your kind words! Actually I haven't covered that case but know if it and have been working on a video for a while. There are many I've been working on but anytime a recent case comes up, I'll always cover that first.. but I will get his video done soon! Thank you so much for watching and sharing! Happy holidays!
Bryan is the leading authority on missing hikers no need to watch other channels they are a day late and a dollar short ! Great job Bryan thanks for all your hard work !!!
Does anybody know why they would have items lying around where they first started out? That part of it doesn't seem to make sense. Maybe somebody came and took the men against their will.
I don't understand that either but I can tell you that the police theorized that it was because they all took a fall early on during their ascent. I think it's more plausible that one of them fell or possibly got hurt and the others were trying to help.. that's just an opinion.. thank you for watching and your feedback!
No, the warmest months (statistically are January & February) but this is different because they are in the high mountains where there's snow at certain elevations almost year round. The weather in the mountains (like all high mountains) can change on a dime so fast and they often don't play by the rules of the regular weather..
@ I think you and I said the same thing as at least I think we both agree it's not winter in New Zealand in December and the conditions were and can be harsh.
I don’t understand the point of everybody being tethered together because if one falls, they all fall! I understand it’s supposed to be a security so maybe if someone does slip everybody can save them, but it seems like all these mountain expeditions that I hear about when one falls the entire team start dropping.
Is cold winter season people should not go far away in the mountains 🏔️ ⛰️ bushes desert 🏜️ the temperature gets cold at night if they loss themselves 🥶🥶🥶 specialy at night 😱🥶🥶🥶
Technically this is the beginning of the summer season in New Zealand. Unfortunately, they have experienced an extended winter in many areas, including this one.. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts 🙏Wishing you and your family a wonderful Holiday Season 🙏🤗
Hello, just thought I would mention that it looks like just left of center of the screen at 3:36 in the video like a person standing there in the snow with a backpack on. Check it out and let me know what you guys think.
Technically from what I understand the warmest months in that area are January and February and this year (like so many other places around the world) have had abnormal weather.. including here where there is still snow on the mountain and they had to call off the search because the weather got so bad.
I was just looking at the satellite images for Mt. Cook Canterbury, NZ and it's just completely inhospitable territory. Even if they survived, made shelter and had a way to melt snow, there is no food, so they'd be dependent on only what they packed in with. I wonder if SAR made use of infrared vision, because if they had a heat source with them (sterno, etc) that and their warm bodies might show up starkly against the cold snow.
Just found your channel - good work. May I just state that just because these guys were qualified as alpine guides in the continental USA doesn't mean that they should have been climbing this very technical route on an island without a local guide especially in winter. Winter is the worst time - and I dont think that you really understand how different it can be from continental areas. Most of our continent - Zealandia - lies beneath the ocean. Winter in New Zealand - especially in the mountains - is incredibly changeable on an hour by hour basis. Heck, summer is changeable - I recently tramped up Mt Holdsworth (Tararuas North Island) and went from tee-shirt and shorts to jumpers and long trousers at the top. In one hour. New Zealand is an an island nation sitting between the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean. Mt Cook is the highest peak of the Southern Alps . It is but one of the peaks and there are peaks that need to be climbed before you even start getting up there. The weather can be very very very different hour by hour in the mountains . (Yes, I've tramped in here! and tackled the easiest route up Mt Cook with four very experienced local climbers. In summer. It was very very hard.) The Police and the volunteer search and rescue people went up anyway.
Thank you so much for watching and sharing your experiences and feedback! Yes that's exactly why I said no matter how skilled, how trained.. the mountains make the rules. Yes this is a very technical route that even the most experienced climbers can find difficult especially in winter conditions.. that's awesome that you have Been able to hike and climb those areas! I've always wanted to visit New Zealand. My sister in laws family has a wine vineyard there. I'm not sure where exactly.. but I definitely hope to visit your beautiful country some day! Thank you so much for watching and sharing all your experiences and knowledge!
I believe one did but don't know for sure. It's possible that whatever happened, happened too fast for any type of response.. thank you for watching and your feedback! Happy Holidays 🙏🌲🤗
Extremely unlikely and very suspected that guide level alpine climbers would over pack to the point they would discard essentials like an ice axe and cold weather gear at the start of the trip. I fearfully suspect foul play in this incident.
Perhaps when making the climb, the weather conditions worsened and they chose to return back. If they were tethered together, unfortunately they may have fallen into something and have been covered up with the snow.
Because of all the light pollution:😢 it's sad but all the lights from the more populated areas make it almost impossible to see a good 🌃 night sky. If you Google "light pollution and star gazing " you'll see what I mean.. it's awful because where I live we have the highest level of light pollution and I can really only see the moon and a few stars..
I think it's possible something happened to one of them and the others were trying to help or get help.. but🤷♂️. I don't think they were kidnapped.. that would be very extravagant.. they would have needed a helicopter to get them off.. who knows what happened 🤷♂️ Thank you for watching! Have a good Holiday Season 🙏
Bryan, l realize these men were experts in their fields, but l need an honest answer. At what age should experts become consultants? Once someone hits 50, they naturally start losing abilities they had when younger. It's just a fact of the aging process. Sure there's exceptions but they are not the norm.
Mature consultants make better decisions. Not as much ego. Older climbers are far better as guides imo. Climbing big peaks is 95% decision, 5% ability.
I climbed Mt, Whitney at 23. I weighed around 150-160lb. My Jansport D3 backpack weighed 70 lbs. I don't consider myself anywhere near an "expert". Apparently, these experts always show up missing or dead, an overrated overused term. Maybe at one time, but the oldest guy was 56. He should not be anywhere near that mountain. Its like a 90 year old race car driver who has won the Indy 500 ten times in a row, entering it now. Not any more
Why would you leave behind a jacket or ice ax in a setting like that? So many people went missing this year, does nobody watch these videos and LEARN from them? Take fire-building resources, SAT PHONES, space blankets, tarps, first aid equipment, food, water, compass, map, etc.
Why don't people wear blaze orange, when climbing or in the woods. This color should be made available in the garments appropriate for these adventures.
I don't believe any of them carry flare guns. We carry special orange 'Region" smoke emitters.. but I know every team is different and I don't think most people out on personal hikes/climbs carry things like this..
You're doing such a great job keeping us up to date on all these cases! Thanks for the advance copy! Very sad the search only lasted a couple of days:( Prayers for all of them!

Tragic. These guys were skilled, as explained - but how does one lose an ice ax or any items when just starting out?
That's what is puzzling to me too.. I think maybe one of them had an accident or fall and the others were trying to help.. it's very hard for me to believe they all fell and died at the same time..especially so early on in the hike.. but🤷♂️thank you for watching and your thoughts!
Beautiful area! Another very, very rugged terrain 😮 😧
It really is stunning, but definitely not for the faint of heart! With the beauty comes many challenges! Especially on a route they were attempting.. I hope and pray that one way or another they will be found and brought back to their families 🙏 Thank you for watching and your feedback! Happy Holidays to you and your family 🙏🌲🤗
Yep.. OK..
@@terrenceseymourI remember that too!
@@terrenceseymour That is... wow. "Appalling" doesn't begin to cover it.
Lazy cops ?@@terrenceseymour
@@terrenceseymourThere was a similar case in England in 1980's 😮
This is so sad!! My prayers go out to their families .I wondering perhaps they indured a avalanche of sorts??? I pray they'll be found and hopefully by a miracle alive...🙏🙏
Thank you for watching and your kind thoughts and prayers for these men and their families 🙏 🙏
🎄MERRY CHRISTMAS, and HAPPY NEW YEAR, BRYAN! 🎉
Thank you! Happy Holidays to you and yours too! 🙏🤗
I'm enjoying this very much I just subscribed informative very interesting yet scary peace to all bless the families ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for watching and subscribing! I really appreciate the support and kind prayers for these men and their families 🙏 have a great weekend!
Hello, yes I have indeed! I covered her case right after she went missing..I was the first or second to cover her case on yt.. also did some searching the field. Yes, I also did a follow up video after working on her case for a while.
Here is the link to the original video if you'd like to watch:

Here is a later video where I covered updates.

unfortunately, it's still a mystery😢I'm hoping to do more field work on her case as well as others in Yosemite next spring. 🙏 I continue to follow these cases I share with you all and I'm always hoping in one way or another that we'll find the person 🙏
Thank you for watching and your feedback! I hope you're having a great weekend!
If they were all professional climbers they should have known the value of of at least one personal locator beacon! Unless they were caught in an avalanche. Sad! ☹️ Happy Holidays Bryan! ☃️
That's true. I think at least one of them had one but don't know the details. Thank you for watching and Happy Holidays to you🙏🌲🤗
Thank you, brother. 🎉
Thank you for watching!
Sounds like they might have all fallen into a crevasse and couldn’t get out? Maybe there will be more searching when the weather lifts? I hope so.
Are there crevices on the mountain??
🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for watching and your thoughts and prayers for these men and their families 🙏
Is there some sort of emergency gps beacon that hikers can wear that will automatically go off if you haven't moved in so many hours?
Yes, PLB epirb. All climbers are supposed to carry one, but lots dont. They probably have one, but this seems like an avalanche situation. They wouldn't have time to dig it out.
@@mackash - it should be kept 'in reach'
Wow! Livermore is 20 minutes away from me! That’s crazy
My heart goes out to the three men, and their family and loved ones. I hope they are found alive, and that they will return to their homes and families. Prayers for all of them. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
💜🙏
Thank you for watching🙏
Prayers for the group
😢😢😢❤
Let's hope they're still alive, I'll keep them in prayers. Thanks Bryan
Cool video! And so informative. I just tromp around trails maybe I should learn more about them ….
Thank you for watching and your kind feedback!
wow what timing
Thank you for watching! Very sad situation 😢
Bless their hearts & peace of mind for their families💖💖💖

You are too kind! Thank you very much for the awesome support and feedback🙏Happy Holidays 🌲🙏🤗
❤
Does anybody know why they would have items lying around where they first started out? That part of it doesn't seem to make sense.
Maybe somebody came and took the men against their will.
🤔
I don't understand that either but I can tell you that the police theorized that it was because they all took a fall early on during their ascent. I think it's more plausible that one of them fell or possibly got hurt and the others were trying to help.. that's just an opinion.. thank you for watching and your feedback!
Isn't it harsh summer conditions there now?
No, the warmest months (statistically are January & February) but this is different because they are in the high mountains where there's snow at certain elevations almost year round. The weather in the mountains (like all high mountains) can change on a dime so fast and they often don't play by the rules of the regular weather..
@ I think you and I said the same thing as at least I think we both agree it's not winter in New Zealand in December and the conditions were and can be harsh.
🙏
I don’t understand the point of everybody being tethered together because if one falls, they all fall! I understand it’s supposed to be a security so maybe if someone does slip everybody can save them, but it seems like all these mountain expeditions that I hear about when one falls the entire team start dropping.
Hi Bryan ❤ hope you have a very Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
Thank you so much for your kind wishes and wishing you a very happy holiday season to you too!🙏🎄🎁
An avalanche probably took them. At least the passed following their dreams. Rest in peace my brothers
I live in nz and haven't even heard about this.
I love hiking but I'm also terrified of it. I keep my hikes under 10 miles....scary. I hope they're families find peace what a tragedy.
That mountain looks nasty
Definitely very difficult and poses many challenges! Thank you for watching! Have a happy Holiday season!
Nature don’t play
That right ! Nature DOESN’T play!
Hello, just thought I would mention that it looks like just left of center of the screen at 3:36 in the video like a person standing there in the snow with a backpack on. Check it out and let me know what you guys think.
Why is the 3rd canadian male not identified? Is he not known?
I'm not sure..I couldn't find that info or why he was not named.
@@bawattsyl - Interesting. Thank you.
@@bawattsyl I wonder if it is a Canadian privacy law that the media are respecting 🤔
@@bawattsylOdd 😮
His family wanted to keep his name out of the paper for now. They are still praying for a miracle.
It is Summer in New Zealand. Is the weather abnormally bad?
Yes summer here but weather has been wonky for some time..snow clearly still about
Technically from what I understand the warmest months in that area are January and February and this year (like so many other places around the world) have had abnormal weather.. including here where there is still snow on the mountain and they had to call off the search because the weather got so bad.
Praying for these men!!
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for these men🙏🙏
What about this Canadian did he survive?
So far none of the men have been found or believed to have survived 😢
Didn’t they have satellite GPS?? This is so sad
I believe one did but don't know for sure. It's possible that whatever happened, happened too fast for any type of response.. thank you for watching and your feedback! Happy Holidays 🙏🌲🤗
Remember how amazing we think YOU are ❤
Extremely unlikely and very suspected that guide level alpine climbers would over pack to the point they would discard essentials like an ice axe and cold weather gear at the start of the trip. I fearfully suspect foul play in this incident.
It's as alluring of a place as it is treacherous
💕🔥💐💐🔥💕
I’m never going mountain climbing, caving, or diving. I caved as a young man and now get chills thinking how careless we were. Never again.
Doesn't it seem odd that they left important equipment behind at the start (more or less) of their journey?
It does indeed! That's why I don't think they all fell at once.. but🤷♂️
❤❤❤
Perhaps when making the climb, the weather conditions worsened and they chose to return back. If they were tethered together, unfortunately they may have fallen into something and have been covered up with the snow.
Why the stars full in desert 🏜️ jungles islands 🏝️ mountains ⛰️🏔️ not in city 🏙️
It’s odd that they found some of their gear so close to their start…. Maybe someone kidnapped them
Why on a mountain?

@@mackashAge is relative
How can these 3 guys go missing and nothing else can be found?
Do these hikers carry flare guns
I don't believe any of them carry flare guns. We carry special orange 'Region" smoke emitters.. but I know every team is different and I don't think most people out on personal hikes/climbs carry things like this..
Perhaps needs a psychic 😊
Avalanche?
Apparently there was no evidence of any.. but yes that's always a possibility!
So you have two channels?
Huh? No I only have this one. What made you think I had 2? I have a twin brother.. but only one channel. Thank you for watching!
I know exactly what happened to these guys
What?
