This is a great video. You are a lovely lady. You remind me of a Victorian Rosamund Pike. She is my favorite actress. Thanks for trying to graciously inform people of the facts about corsets. I love them! ♥️
I really enjoyed your video. I have been contemplating corset wearing for a while now and I think you’ve tipped the scale. Thank you so much. I am an admirer of your way of living, think and especially that you are your own person regardless of the opinions of others.
As a Corsetière, and someone who also makes (and wears) historical clothing (on a daily basis), I’m thrilled you addressed this issue. There are many myths ‘out there’ and it’s always challenging to get people to try and reassess what they think they know as ‘fact’. Your adorable helpers made me smile too. Haha. I have one more book to get and I will have your entire collection (to date). Your books, and videos are a wonderful gift that can be enjoyed many times. Tack så mycket.
@@toteoma3034 Yes, and she has to be one busy person with writing, home renovation and daily cooking and so much more that I am sure we don't know about.
Might I ask where you get your corsets and what type for everyday wear? I have never wore one due to ignorance-I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you
@@tracysteward604 Hi Tracy, I made my own corset from a sewing pattern that I found online and resized to fit me. The corset was made of cotton coutile, but any stiff tightly-woven fabric will do (antique corsets were usually made of cotton sateen). I also made mine single-layer with plastic boning, where modern ready-to-wear corsets often have two or three layers and steel boning. I also made some padding for the bust and hip out of cotton wadding. Hope all of that helps!
Being extremely fond of the victorian era myself, and seriously considering wearing victorian clothes soon (I'm workinh around my budget starting with hair care and skincare until I can buy a corset and clothes), I will never be able to thank you enough for your wonderful channel, website, books and for being you!! Long live the Victorian couple ❤😊
Not gonna lie, I'm just here to watch the cats being absolute goobers. My former roommate's cat used to hang out in my room a lot, and although he never went after my corset laces I had to ban him from the closet after he developed a taste for petticoat hems.
I do chuckle that most people think all victorian women tight laced. They forget that the people in the past are much like we are today. Just because a few super rich women might do some pretty extreme things to their body to look a certain way doesn't mean that the majority of us that have to live and work day to day do the same thing! Even among well to do women, you will see variation based on personality. It would be kind of like thinking all women have boob jobs and lots of lip botox and plastic surgery nowadays just because a small portion of women do these things. I imagine in the past tight lacing was probably the same way. Some people did it, and a lot didn't. It also depends upon if an event was casual or formal, and what work had to be done what sort of underwear might be worn. The same thing goes for today as well, you would wear different underwear for a formal event as opposed to day to day doing house chores and running errands.
I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of this video! I have a corset (I wore under my wedding dress 20 years ago!). I loved it! I have thought of wearing one again. Thx for your informative video!
Anyone who loves/knows cats...could only foresee.:) Lovely. Thank you for letting us watch you dress! It gives us a sense of the layers and order of such. Delightfully instructive!
I get so excited when I see that you've made a new video. Could you tell us where to get corsets that are well made please. . I have bought a few of them online and they are pocking me in all parts, also they are polyester and it gets toasty and sweaty very fast.
I tried Ochard. I was not impressed. I have an antique corset that fits me like a glove but I cannot wear it because it's falling apart and my dry cleaner refuse to take it to clean. Any idea who does corset like the old ones?
@@RaisingSerge If you sew, there are costumers on youtube who sew corsets, and Costuming Drama recently made a corset from a patternmaker who gave zoom fitting sessions and then adjusted the pattern too. And a corset looks scary, but the sewing is straight lines, it is the fitting that is important.
Dear Madam, Being a lady much like yourself, I wondered if you could recommend a good seven or eight piece corset pattern for a young lady in my aqaintance who is in desperate need of that garment. Could you please make a presentation about your suppliers of materials, your favourite patterns, &c. also, if there is any place at all that you know of where 15- inch metal lacing busks are sold, I should be most appreciative. Thank-you in advance.
I have heard - from yourself and others - that corsets are more comfortable than bras. I'm considering switching. Do you suppose one would look strange under modern clothing?
The larger lady at 12:02 made me wonder if she had to special order some corsets made just for her. None are made for my size but I am reducing so someday may use one.

I know this is an older comment, but I am a bigger gal too, especially in the hips. Most ready made sizes won’t fit me. There are a lot of shops on Etsy run by people who are great at sewing custom corsets. It might be good to do one typically called a ‘working corset’ because that’s more of an everyday wear one. I hope to get one for myself as well.
Love this video. I have been thinking for some time of trying a corset. I dress daily in clothing that is not modern, but I did not know. Women still wore corsets. I have back issues and in addition to that I found it interesting when you talked about the pressure put on your shoulders from a bra. I have a lot of issues up there as well so I would very much like to try a corset. But again have not due to ignorance. appreciate the information. Is there any merchandisers that you could point me towards there would be a selection? Thank you
Yowamushi Pedal! 😃 In case you haven't noticed, we're bike geeks. 😁(My videos on Victorian cycling are at ruclips.net/p/PLOU77FVzQqiZoHA-ufR4xUKsGVQTnmsdn ) I'm trying to accumulate the whole series: I buy a new volume each time the royalties from my own books come in -it's my little splurge on my equivalent of payday. The same shelf also has a few of Kaoru Mori's "Emma" series. My plan is that after I've collected all the Yowamushi Pedal books I'll start buying the rest of Kaoru Mori's "Emma" stories. 😃
Where do you recommend buying a corset? I started wearing one and madly love it, though sadly it was a thrift store find and I för the life of me or it, find another. It was a Camellia's one just from the tag.

The wall design and the ferns in the WC made me look up victorian stenciling. You inspire this 63 year old widow to learn new things.

In "my opinion," too! I wish that I/we hadn't/didn't need to...rediscover this.
I'm an everyday corset wearer too and my cat *loves* to play with the lacing cords... she thinks it's another of her toys

Orchard corsets or timeless trends. She started with one of those before going custom. Custom really is nice.
