I wish AMTRAK had these. The roommettes are too expensive and more than I need, but sitting in coach for overnights can easily be ruined by people snoring. This solves both problems, and I would pay for this if AMTRAK had them.
They used to have something a bit similar to these, called Slumbercoach. I took one years ago, not long before they were discontinued. They were in a room that was about as small as you can make a room and still be comfortable, vertically staggered kind of the way that airplane business class seats are often staggered horizontally, to allow lie flat beds. There was a seat during the day that converted into a bed at night. I think they also had a toilet and sink but it was so long ago that I forget. Very reasonably priced, back then at least. I hope that if Amtrak ramps up its schedule it reintroduces something like that, or like Nightjet. Train travel makes especial sense for relatively long overnight trips, like NY-Chicago or SF to Seattle, so you don't waste most of a day traveling, arrived relatively rested and save on a hotel room for one night.
I've been saying this since these compartments were announced. Amtrak and VIA's long haul replacements need to offer this travel option to keep fares low.
Just a tip for your future train travels in Europe, especially when boarding at Stations with through-running which are not Terminals: There is usually a chart on the platform which will show you which car stops where along the platform with car numbers and platform-positions usually listed with letters (A through E). Look at the chart, see what letter your car is supposed to stop near, then go and stand near the giant letter posted above the platform. It’s not precise, but it will generally save you a bunch of panicked running when the train pulls in.
Just imagine you’re sitting in economy on a crowded plane with varying degrees of personal hygiene standards flying 13 or more hours and this seem like heaven!

I find it weird the you arrived at 9:15 and said breakfast will be served at 7:30. For my last trip with an old nightjet this summer they served breakfast closer to our arrival time.
Yes! It was quite an early breakfast based on our arrival time…. Passengers could have definitely slept in a little longer if it was a later breakfast :)
I wish I had the finances and physical ability to travel, this train ride and the views look like it could be really cool to experience as part of a journey.

Coffee--love love love it. One of the big joys of this beautiful earth. Capsule traveling--thanks for showing us... About 7 years ago my partner and I took a night train from Vienna to Germany and there was a train workers strike so no one was willing to transform our seats into beds (they needed a special key). And I was getting a really bad cold so I'm positive I kept the whole train up. Is capsule traveling better than that? Probably. Does it also remind me of an MRI tube? Absolutely. That was the best experience so far on a train with ensuite shower (I've done quite a few), and one has so much space in the cabin. Next trip in the Mini Cabin will be done in November from Italy to Germany 😊
Hello @NuraDaniel, do you mind to share how to book the Mini Cabin? I am clueless, and only can find the sleeper cabin on their OBB Nighjet website. I want to travel from Berlin to Vienna, thank you !
My mom, my brother, and I took the NightJet from Vienna to Oostende back in 1995. We had a couchette, which worked perfectly for us. Interesting to see how a lot is very much the same, yet there are changes like these capsules. Thanks for giving us the tour!
Hello Chloé and Ludvig, could you please share how to book the Mini Cabin? I’m a bit lost and can only find the Sleeper Cabin on the ÖBB Nightjet website. I’m planning to travel from Berlin to Vienna and would really appreciate any help you can offer regarding the info. Thank you!
Hey!! I found it pretty difficult to find too - but it turns out only a few select routes offer what’s called the ‘mini cabin’ - the capsule room. When I looked it only seemed to be from Hamburg to Vienna and vice versa :)
@@chloeandludvig Thank you for the explanation, I am planning to go to Berlin from Vienna and vice versa, and yeah they don't offer the mini cabin one. Thank you for the guidance, safe travels!

Another great video by the sweetest gal in the travel video biz! And, yes, I love small and confined spaces if they're comfortable and well-set up as these capsules are, and I'd love to book one someday. The only downside to overnight train travel is that you miss the views, but you can always take the same route again someday during the day. What you paid was an absolute bargain, transport plus a micro hotel room plus coffee and breakfast. The only thing that in my view would have enhanced the experience would have been a couple of communal showers, certainly for me as after a long day of sightseeing it helps so much to shower before bed. I would suggest though that in the future you always wear non-absorbent slippers when using the washroom or toilet, as the floor tends to get wet with use and, well, use your imagination. I always pack a pair of cheap lightweight rubber or foam slippers when I travel. You can also use them in iffy hotel rooms and at a pool, beach, sauna, etc. And, coffee in the morning, definitely. I like tea but the only time I have tea in the morning is when I'm sick and coffee's just too much. And that light breakfast is similar to what I eat in the morning as I can't handle anything heavier that early, so it would have been perfect for me. Well, a slice or wedge of cheese wouldn't have hurt. 😋 As for what train routes to do videos about next, any of the scenic ones through Switzerland, Scandinavia or the Balkans would be great. Take Ludvig with you though! He makes a really great "straight man" to your more jocular self. 😆
Oh thank you so much for the kind words! Totally agree, a shower would've been a lovely addition but I didn't mind at all. Great suggestion re the slippers! You're in luck, I have three trains coming up that Ludvig is going to be joining me on.... watch this space ;)

I understand the novelty. However, as someone who needs to take this night train semi regularly, my opinion is a little different: before the capsules, the older trains had normal couchettes, and seatings that could recline to almost laying position (budget option). Now with these new trains, you have the choice between couchette/capsule, or NON RECLINING SEATS. People on a budget (capsules are cheaper than full sleeping cabines, but not cheap, 5 times more expensive than the seating option) should travel at night, for 12h, and expect to sleep with a 90 degree seat, without even the lights off... Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the video. I am just angry at OEBB (that you pronounced perfectly btw). Rant over. Nice video!
Ahhh thanks for the info Nicholas! Super interesting to read! I can imagine your frustration in that case :) Yuuss very happy I got that pronunciation correct - thank for watching!!
I actually like them both, coffee and tea. This is one train ride that looks interesting, but I know I wouldn't enjoy it personally. I don't have the flexibility to enjoy such a small space for an extended period of time. However, I think it would be cool for a day trip as opposed to just sitting in a chair.
Ooo nice a bit of both! Yes, the capsule travel is definitely an acquired taste, and very dependant on flexibility and mobility.... could be fun for a short period as you say :)

(I'd totally be "Captain Gasalot".🫣) My bed has a bookshelf headboard, a bookcase on the left and a bigscreen TV for the footboard, so I feel your pain trying to do your bedding while on the bed.😂 The sliding table is sooo cool -- I need one! I'd def book a capsule and order a BIG coffee. I wonder how many passengers were in their capsules staring at the bathroom occupied light while you were shooting your vid.🤔 If you get back to Canada, please do Via Rail's cross-country route?💕
Hehe thanks for watching Brian!! Yes, it was quite the mission to make my bed that's for sure... but defiantly made for a hilarious moment. Glad to hear you love coffee! We are hoping to tick off Via Rail across Canada within the next year! Fingers crossed over here ;)
Chloe, I have a love affair with trains. Whether it be day excursions or overnight travel. Glad that I stumbled upon your videos. You are very informative, with fun charisma. I am going to visit 4 or 5 Christmas markets this winter, in Europe. I will be flying to Amsterdam. What trains can I catch from there? Many thanks!
Me too - its a magical way to travel isn't it. So glad you are enjoying the videos :) That sounds like a very fun trip! I am not sure actually - I haven't ever taken a train from Amsterdam but I'm sure there are a few good ones!
I don't do well in small enclosed spaces; just watching you in the tiny bathroom made my throat close. I'd have a full blown panic attack in the capsule! 😱

I have rode the night jet, on the last generation from Vienna to Amsterdam. I could really care less for their product, and these new cars don’t change my feelings. The breakfast they offer was pitiful. Thankfully, Amsterdam has plenty of good options and saved the day.
I would love to take these real bad. It's a shame they won't start running with these from Amsterdam until 2026 and it seems like it's still difficult to travel with a bike. They say there's room for bikes but you're not able to book bike spots from the website.
I was absolutely fine watching this, until you got to the bedtime section - I think I'd feel really quite claustrophobic in there, and I'm usually fine with smaller spaces!
I LOVE these!! I think I have the opposite of claustrophobia, small spaces give me IMMENSE comfort and capsule rooms are my idea of heaven NO JOKE!

Noooo not yet! They're on our trains list... watch this space ;)
They are rare because they only started late last year. OBB is planning on offering this new travel option on more routes soon.
Great to know, thanks Mike!
Love it - coffee
Woohoo another coffee lover
Trumpet farts. I laughed so hard my cat gave me a look. Tea and coffee for me.
Hahaha, glad it gave you a chuckle! ;)
Coffee! ☕️❤😍
🙌 🙌 High five!!
It's so nice to find a kiwi on RUclips
Oh yay!! Always nice to hear the Kiwi appreciation 👍👍
Hey Chloe! Loved this train vid! Hope the toilets were more soundproof than your blanket-fort capsule.
Fingers crossed over here ;)
@@chloeandludvig Yay! (Fingers crossed here too!)
❤love coffee!!!!
Yusss🙌🏼
Where did you book the trip and what where the cost?
I cover the cover in the vid - it was around 160 euro ish - and I booked directly on the OBB nightjet website :)
@@chloeandludvig missed it sorry… 🫢
@@jasmijnnicolaes1539 Hehe no worries :)
Oh dear its the ASMR episode!
Hahahaha, oh no - accidental ASMR...
I love coffee ❤
High five 🙌 🙌
Your video is really good ❤
Thank you!!😃
Coffee = life
Totally agree
I don't do well in small enclosed spaces; just watching you in the tiny bathroom made my throat close. I'd have a full blown panic attack in the capsule! 😱
Ohh no, hehe Ludvig is the same... I can't imagine he would enjoy this.
@@chloeandludvig you know it's true love, that he's willing to take the upper bunk on your joint train journeys! Growing up, I would sleep on deck on my Dad's sailboat rather than in an enclosed quarter berth. Even if there were mosquitoes 🦟
I can’t even watch. 🥴
Haha! I could just see me in there. I’ve had two knee replacements and my knees don’t bend like yours.
Oh goodness! Yes, you're better to go for the sleeper cabin - it was bendy knees deluxe in that capsule!!
Nice video❤
Thank you! :)
Hate Coffee, Tea please! 😊
Ahhhh a tea lover!! My mum loves an earl grey
Thankyou for sharing your journey um I think I'll give this one a miss not for me especially when you said the upstairs person was farting 😂no thanks lovely senry and I loved the lights the meals was ok anyway hope you enjoy joyed your real coffee at a coffee shop when you got of train 🕊️🌺
Hehehe, I might've just had a particularly gassy fellow passenger above me... I bet that doesn't always happen ;) Thanks for joining me!

Yay welcome!! :)
@@chloeandludvig to bad prices for sleeper trains are sky rocketed after corona. For a 160 euros you can get a pretty nice hotel. But yes you pay for the Experience that’s a fact.👍🙏
By the way Can you bring your own food at that train??? Coffee
I'm sure you can! Yay for coffee :)
This is so fun! I'd probably feel claustrophobic in there, but what a neat idea. I hate coffee. I feel like I am the only adult who hates it, in the world. I can only tolerate it with heaps of sugar, chocolate, that sort of thing. Waste of calories!!!
Thanks for watching! Hehe, I used to be like the with coffee, but now love the bitter black taste ;)
I have rode the night jet, on the last generation from Vienna to Amsterdam. I could really care less for their product, and these new cars don’t change my feelings.
The breakfast they offer was pitiful. Thankfully, Amsterdam has plenty of good options and saved the day.
Ahh huh! Interesting touch hear your experience! Thanks for watching anyway ☺️☺️
For sure, you guys have a great channel. I’m always a fan.
have you been to Australia?
I have :)
coffee is not my jam. im a hot choco guy ^^
Ooo nice - Ludvig is also a hot chocolate man
I'm a 100% tea drinker.....i live near Disney World!
this was fun and a little weird. perect
I love a little weird!😎
Probably me being me and simple. Top on sit on the other side no curved bit to bug your head. coffee I love but al have tea on some occasions
Great idea - I did try that but it wasn't so comfortable with the door handle etc :) Nice, another coffee lover I see!!
@chloeandludvig ah the handle didn't think on that one. Yep I can be a snob on coffee and then a we dirty on simple instant coffee
I'm here from Instagram reel 😌
Woohoo thanks for coming over!!
About the guy who kept farting, as my grandma used to say “Better out than in!” 😂😂😂
😂😂Your grandmas a smart woman
I would love to take these real bad. It's a shame they won't start running with these from Amsterdam until 2026 and it seems like it's still difficult to travel with a bike. They say there's room for bikes but you're not able to book bike spots from the website.
I was absolutely fine watching this, until you got to the bedtime section - I think I'd feel really quite claustrophobic in there, and I'm usually fine with smaller spaces!
Hehe, it was quite the tight space! Luckily I was fine, but I can imagine some would find it claustrophobic ;)
Can Not Live Without Coffee. LOL
Me either!!!
Have to have my coffee. Great video but I doubt if I would like the capsule. Too confining.
Yass another coffee person! Hehe, don't worry a lot of viewers have said the same ;)
Hot Chocolate Supremacy
Those Blue patter+ned seats are so patter+ned as to HIDE the DIRT!!!! Look up: Blue patterned Bus seats.
Coffeecoffee coffee ....or i mean cappucino cappucino cappucino and espresso espresso espresso.
I wonder how long before you try to pack yourself in your large suitcase and ask your husband to transport you 😂😂😂😂😂 .
Now THAT sounds like a challenge we should try one day.....
@@chloeandludvig why am I not surprised.
My husband is 6’6” 250lbs. Could he fit in there?
Hmmmm, he might be in for a slight squeeze..... hehe
Coffee, coffee, coffee...
