  • Visual snow syndrome is a neurological condition characterized by a persistent visual disturbance that resembles static or "snow" in the entire visual field. Individuals with this condition experience continuous visual noise, often described as tiny flickering dots across their vision. In addition to the primary symptom of visual static, people with visual snow syndrome may also experience:
    • Afterimages
    • Light sensitivity (photophobia)
    • Impaired night vision (nyctalopia)
    • Floaters in the visual field
    • Blue field entoptic phenomenon

Thankyou for this. When I first tried looking up this phenomenon years ago there was nothing on the internet linking it to dysautonomia and I was repeatedly told that this was a psychiatric symptom caused by either anxiety or FND. Almost none of my clinicians, including a neurologist, even knew what dysautonomia was when I was first diagnosed by a ME/CFS doctor. Mainstream info on the subject has come along way since then along with far more nuanced and complex biopsychosocial models for these disorders.

I believe my daughter has visual snow. She’s 16 but just a couple of years ago she told me she she sees only with static and she did not think to tell me sooner because she assumed this was normal since she only ever saw this way. Her doc kinda shrugged it off when we mentioned it. She has adhd (inattentive type) and severe anxiety as well. I’m wondering if she doesn’t actually have POTS since we’ve tried every anxiety medication out there over the past 5 years and none of them work. She seems to have all the symptoms. Is visual snow in any way associated with this?
We’re currently trying neurofeedback. I’m not sure if it’ll be helpful but I’m pretty desperate to find some solutions for her.
