I listened through my cell phone and heard very subtle differences lol🤣!! Been thinking of switching my 81 85 combo to 85 bridge and 81 neck. Great vid sir!
Yes Sir! 85 in bridge and 81 in neck - thats the way! I don't get it, why so many guitaristas do it in the opposite. The bassy pickup on the bassy neck-side and the trebly 81 on the bridge? Why?? Nice comparison, though I think, in high gain mode the differences are barely noticable - especially in the band mix. (I listened through my quality headphones). But I listened the 18V some time ago in clean mode, some funky and blues stuff, and then the sun rises with the higher voltage-modd. I think the Emg-X series has the similare effect.
Low tunings I think, for me, I'm planning to switch exactly as I play mostly in E standard, I'm even grabing stems and remixing songs in D# or D to E just to play along without needing to change tunings, I just prefer E tuning, and sometimes D, and I think most of times, from E to D the 85 is the way (on Les Paul's scale maybe from Eb and so on would be better the 81... I'm using the LTD EC 1000 but I play with her just in E), from C#, specially from C and so on the 81 would be better. The 24v is a very clever way to simple smoke any fishman hi bla bla bla stuff.
i have the 9v and 24v setup in one guitar and i like the brightness of the 81 on 9v better then the 24. i dont ever use the 24v option but its there as backup now lol. i also have the same guitar as you in this video but the js model instead and i didnt like the emgs at all in that one 81 or 85. i also dont really like emgs in mahogany guitars im noticing? they seem honky or they have some weird pronounced frequency i really have a hard time EQing out. great video again man. your the guy i originally got my ideas from for the battery upgrades and switching idea. thanks!!
not using a cell phone... the differences are very obviously to me, tonally. The 24v definitely sounds the nastiest, with the 9v giving it a more brittle sound.
I honestly played a Jim root tele one time that I thing had the 24v mod in it cause no 81 has ever sounded like that I now have a squier cabronita baritone I plan to drop a p85 in the bridge and a p 60a in the neck with the 24v mod especially after this video thank man
Lol... I have the 81-60 in 9volt 18volt... and 24 Volt.. and yes the difference is subtle. But I can tell .. but also. Yeah. Listening though my cell android phone. I can barely hear it. ..lmao ..
@@DanGatesMetal I wouldn't think so but idk. I just put a 24v in my ec1000. I found you can play cleaner stuff also by turning down the volume like regular old pups. Brighter and cleaner, more dynamic. Thanks for the video
Thanx so much for this comparison video. But do you think that the 85 at 18 v or 24 v would sound just like our very close to the (9v) 85x? I would love to know if you’ve tried it and your opinion. I have the LTD Black Metal EC that comes with the SD Black Winter Pup’s which sounds phenomenal. But I like the look of the flat poleless look of the EMG’s and I’m planning on swapping out the SD for the 85X.
I have never tried the X. I’ve had a couple people mention it to me. I’ve always just stuck with the 81. I had been running it at 18v for a long time but when I found out about the 24v mod I tried it and really liked it. I did this same comparison on my channel with the 81.

Yeah it’s subtle! I think my Solar guitar with the 81 at 24v showed the biggest difference.

I like 18V the most.
you can tell the difference when he does the a string power chords

Thanks man! Yeah some things work for some guitars and not others.

Yeah I’m 24v in all my guitars!

Awesome! I would love to try one of the Jim Root strats.

Вообще не услышал разницы. Как по ощущениям от игры и по анализу DI сигнала?
I just heard it through my iPhone and he’s right! I’m not going to bother with it…
How long do those little 12v batteries last? They are so small
They last quite a while but not as long as 9v I don’t think.

Even on cellphone there are diffrences
