- Go pro Footage of Crib Goch ridge 11th september 2015. Clear skys but pretty windy. I tried to get good footage of the 800m sheer drop to the right using a wide angle, but don't believe it does it justice.
*Check out my channel for more.*
In 1963 took a Girl Friend on a date weekend . Along with a bunch of friends/work colleagues. She had never done anything like it before. Must have thought she was a “keeper” . Married her in 1964 - still married.
Mike ward ,Excellent.
Omg that is the.. CUTEST THING EVERR
@@samantakl89 What my note did not say : my future wife met and sat and chatted with Sherpa Tensing on the ridge . The 1953 Everest climbing party were concurrently on the ridge for a 10 year reunion.
My younger brother did the same, took his new girlfriend there on first weekend away in 08, clouds came down and they nearly got completely lost , said it was bloody scary but they still ended up getting married at later date,, sounds like I had better find a girlfriend to take there . Congrats.
Did this 2 days ago. Legs still aching. I'm 58 and planned for it for 2 months. Walking up local, much smaller mountain and lifting heavy logs. But NOTHING prepared me for this. I saw guys and gals like this just walking/running across it...I basically crawled. It's terrifying. It's not just that bit they're showing you. There are some almost sheer rock faces you have to climb over to get to the ridge. It's not for the fainthearted. It's very technical and you need an excellent center of balance. I made it purely by the encouragement of others passing by and staying peaceful taking one step/crawl at a time. Saying that, it was the most exhilarating, amazing thing I've ever done in my life and I have done a lot of crazy stuff!!!
You’re right. It’s not for the fainthearted! Respect to you for doing it and tackling it at your own pace!
Wow , I’m scared of heights and I honestly think I would freeze at the top..Well done to you sir, the views look amazing
When I did this many years ago, the weather was so bad you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. For which I am truly grateful!
My partner has traversed Crib Goch many times back in the 1970's. He recalls taking a friend up there when it was fairly thick fog and then they did it again later and his friend said "you've got to be kidding me - is this where you took me last time"!!!
Yes, i could do this easily if it were foggy and i couldn't see the height. But on a day like this, no way.
I 'did' the Crib Goch in 1983 with 5 Irish lads at Easter .... hungover as f......k from a session in the Vaynol Arms the night before .....glorious weather ..... can't imagine what it would be like in cloud ..... suggest we wouldn't be there ...... watching your video brought it all back ...... great , great times in North Wales ..... I have lived in Sydney Oz for the last 35 years !!!
Cyfarchion o gymru Yr hen goes, 👍
It might be easier in the cloud, if you can't see the drop it doesn't exist 😂
Ah the Vaynol, lived across from it. Usually go there after the climb, not before lol
I did this with my Dad when a teenager. It is far more dangerous than it looks. Great respect for everyone that has done this.
I did this with my mates when I was 17. There's no way I'd take my kids there now 😂. The shots do not do it justice.
You are kidding. It looks ridiculous
I did it when I was 7 and then again aged 9. It’s left me with a lasting fear of heights.
Brother when I did it...I did it on all fours !
Ditto.
Not all of it, of course, but I recall spending a good bit of the time using my hands as well as my feet. It amazes me that people can just wander across it like that - very impressive.
Me tooo! He's just walking casually with a camera in his hand!
My brother and myself attempted it a couple years ago back on a cold stormy March morning with the dog! Gale force winds visibility no more than 10 feet and it was pissing it down! That’s the only time in my life I’ve feared for it! We were on all fours before we had to make a retreat back down.
It's better to be safe. Imagine spraining or breaking your ankle up there.
Same 😂😂
Obviously no such thing as vertigo for these two spider men... absolutely fantastic... The music is so chilled...
Found this video after I had done the route and now watch it frequently. Very good video and does show very well what the traverse is like. For anyone watching this video as home work before they do the route, Yes it really is that sharp! Certainly not for the faint hearted.
Shit the bed, I have vertigo just watching this. Ok - I would like to climb it but conquering my fear will be a huge challenge.
Brilliant bit of footage, I did it when i was 19, only once, never again, but of course you just have to have at least one go, would I have ever done it again....no , half way across a swirling cold mist descended, I had to be led off the last couple of hundred yards or so by some other guys, regrets, only one and that back in 1972 we didn"t have the modern action cams, thamks for sharing, glad you made it across safe....Mike
Great vid and music goes well with it. My dad took me my sister and 2 of our friends across this ridge when we were around 10/11. I remember sitting down being afraid to move at one point, shear drop both sides. Got across in the end. Found an old pic of us all but didn’t know where it was so asked an old walker I know and he said it was crib goch!
Thanks dad!!!!We are gonna do this again when the time is right 👌
I did this when I was 17, 38 now and there's no way I'd take my kids up there 😂. Took them up the Llanberis path and that was worrying enough for me.
I did this in the summer of 1987. I was only ten years old. You don't have fear as a child.
We did this the other day. Aged 54 with wife of similar age. Hardest bit was getting up to the ridge as it was rainy and misty and the route wasn’t obvious. Some very sketchy hand and footholds. I think we were too far over to the right. Got to the start of the crest and a guy walked past us with a full size mountain bike strapped to his back.
The ridge itself is stunning but it’s a good idea to prepare with a few similar ‘potentially risky’ walks first. We did Striding Edge and Sharp Edge in the Lake District the week before. Good preparation but Crib Goch is way more exposed.
Since the beginning of the year ive wanted to do this scramble. ive watched, probably every video of crib, and this is the best by far. You guys make it look effortless. I dont know why so many people shoot in fisheye, Its not real, it puts people off.. Thanks for the vid. October is my time to do this , im just waiting for a couple of clear days and im off. Your video has given me so much courage..I have watched this many many times...Thanks Guys
This is exactly why i made this video! have a good time in October, and I hope you have good weather! 🤞
Im lucky enough to go to Wales..Brecon Beacons and the Lake district at least once a year and have climbed many mountains. Crib Goch is by far the most exhilarating route..absolutely loved it and wish to return one day
I remember walking that ridge when i was in the Army, in January 78, Ive never been so scared in all my life, the wind was horrific, and not an ideal place to be in the winter months..
We were lucky with the weather. Check out the striding edge + jakes rake videos on my channel. Different story all together!
will do
Can't believe I've just gone to use my wife's phone (as it was nearest) to show my wife's family this place as we're all in Snowden and I've scrambled up this.... and I spot an old school friend! Crazy... its Dwight here. Take it easy cool video's
I remember also, 83 during adventure training whilst at Bassingbourn Barracks.
Think I was on hands and knees at some point.
@@Troubadour1681 l was at Bassingbourn barracks did this on adventure training, stayed at Capel curig, must say i shat myself😁
You just took me back to 30 years ago, brilliant👍
My legs have gone numb watching that.
Brings back memories from when I did it at age 15. I’m 38 now and don’t think I’d do it now, looks terrifying. Proud to say I have done it though 😁
I’ve completed it last month at 15 😁 whole 6 hours complete
Your partner just casually stumbled a few times as if he was on the beach! And then he took the lead round a tricky bit, awesome stuff 😎
Gnarly
Nice video ,watched it many times, cheers me up every time I see it,done CribCoch many times in all weathers, love your video one off my favourite
Kind words. Will do another in the better weather.
My dude in the blue is all smiles after almost tripping to his death at 2:08
Hi pipe watched your lovely video yet again over the festive period 2nd or 3 rd year ,just love it. All the best
Im glad you like it! im planing on making more next year, just need some inspiration! all the best and merry Christmas!
Well done. I did it over thirty years ago, and ended up on the scree slope. Was explaining this to my wife (as Crib Goch is in the news today after a family were airlifted off) and found your video. It is as nerve jangling as I remember LoL!
I did crib goch 3 days ago, amazing view! Deffo a scary route but so glad i have done it lol
Awesome vid mate, It does it justice :)
I was up there with my mates about a month later and it's so good. Can't wait to do it again.
thanks! we were lucky enough to have pefect weather!
song is ' Amelie - Comptine d'un autre ete' :D:D beaut place with a beaut tune
Brilliant video.I first did it in 1964 and twice since.First time was in quite thick mist but the other 2 times were in fine sunny conditions.Your video makes me want to do it again. But not while holding a camera like that!
Do it!
Went over it the other day, first time up Snowdon, found it really exillerating!
Beautiful video! Did this for the first time a week ago, one of the best experiences I've had !
That's amazing, I'll be on all fours when I do it!
Love it 👌 I have great respect for a knife edge walk like this!
Well done guys 🙌
Happy new year to you, love your video , if you ever come to Shropshire, would love to show you some magnificent walks,
thanks, you too. this year has been a no go for returning to Wales and the north so looking forward to some decent walks next year!
This is the best film of CG I've seen on YT. Done it, never going back. Nice one.
Thank you!
@@pipewilliams.2039 can't thank you enough for this video. Stunning, and how you did it whilst holding camera for terrified folk like me to see the glory. Thankyou!!!!! X
@@alisonjones-richards8505 Haha thanks! I will have to make more especially for you! :)
@@pipewilliams.2039 Ooh please! But do take special care!
@@alisonjones-richards8505 exactly Alison! Gorgeous young chap sprinting along Crib Goch whilst balancing a selfie stick! Utter respect!!!
Reminds me of being a kid and in our local park there was a long handrail/fence that we used to walk along.
It was at least 100" long and getting from one end to the other took clarity of mind, nerves of steel and good grippy trainers with the laces tied nice and tight.
But well done on your thing, it too looks impressive and maybe even a bit chilly?
Absolutely stunning views 👍
thank you for posting x
I wish I had 10% of the nerve these two fellas have
Awesome video bud, Done Crib a few times now but never had the views you had... Another Sick route with similar Exposure is Tower Ridge on Ben Nevis. Most would Recommend a short Rope though for Tricky Sections.
Thanks! I'll have to check it out. Plan on doing a few climbs this summer for sure. Would love to go back to Ben Nevis.
Beautiful video - well done.
A little sag looking at your feats. Heroes - Nice to watch while tea.😎
Well done ......don't think I could do it so thanks for the great views 👍
All videos so far everyone is using all 4 hands and feet these two rocking it stood up like it’s an easy hike, love it
Great vid i attempted it got to the ridge n scrambled back down but was my first time scrambling so never done too bad
Have you ever done the CMD Arete route to Ben Nevis? Almost identical to this, I plan on getting down to snowdon this year.
No I havnt. I will have to check it out.
Footage looked awesome! I think using a pole is the best way to film up there. I'm taking my drone up next time!
Like your videos.
This is a Grade 1 Scramble for a reason it's very, very easy, myself and my 8 year daughter did this together not so long ago, while we up there we were passed by a guy that was running it....
Everything I read on it scared me more then what it actually was. I did by myself an didn't find it difficult. You'll be fine especially if you have people doing it with you or there. For sure worth it
One trip is all it takes for death
Did it this weekend, a bit blustery & misty, so no views & slightly slippery in parts. Think I used up a years worth of adrenaline moving far, far slower than these guys. Amazing, great video.
you make it look easy lol
Hi Pipe ,hope you are well.Still the best video off Crib Coch, haven't seen you much on You tube, are doing some more videos soon?
Hey, thanks! Yes I was planning on doing a lot more videos this year, especially after getting a new go pro last christmas, but obviously, things got put on hold for a while. But Im actually going to film a video this Sunday. Something a little different than mountains but check back next week and see!
I handrailed most of crib goch. Fair play!
Did this today, but also on all fours lol. Great footage 👍🏻
Good day for it! 👍🏻
I did the same? You look young, How old are you? I did my first snowdon climb when I was 12 with my dad. Amazing times
@@dancallaghan528 I did the same! But it was blowing a gale with torrential rain... i was bloody terrified :') Going along the ridge couldnt see more than 10m due to the fog. Definitely an experience ill remember for life!
Great video. What Gopro were you using?
3+
The wind was relentless when I sid it, you couldn't stand without holding a rock or each other to anchor from being blown away. Stupid to go in those conditions.
Climbed this 2 weeks ago in the pouring rain, high winds and no vision. Was the most insane thing I have done but felt so liberating. I can’t wait to go again
Yh I'm going tomorrow, it's ment to be raining a lot is there anything else you'd recommend I bring accept the normal stuff?
@@tremexslayzerocketleague7063 A balance pole.
@@pipewilliams.2039 Would of been a good idea, there way less than 10 people there yesterday due to weather and 2 turned back. I was able todo all of it. Not going down the sides after knifes edge and going up all the peaks on the way :)
@@tremexslayzerocketleague7063 good work 👍🏻
my dad took me up crib goch when i was about 14, not sure how i feel about that, i do miss him though
We all miss him x
He was an amazing dad! He put you through the scary stuff so everything else is a breeze! May he rest in peace 🙏 Way to go dad! Incidentally, I did this 2 days ago and I'm still shaking and in agony but so happy I did it. Big hugs.
@@moirahill6397 as time goes by i realise more and more what he did for me
Do you have any tips on how to balance so well and walk across it? I would need to scramble and use my hands but you are walking across it. How can I improve my balance?
I would suggest generally practicing balance and agility where ever possible. When it comes to something like crib goch, concentrate on every step and take your time.
What's the background music on this video, please? Sounds like Michael Nyman. It's very good.
the piece is called - 'Comptine D'un Autre Été, L'après-Midi' Performed by various artists.
Ok thanks. In some way an odd choice of music - very melancholy - but it just works really well. Great video by the way.
you find it on the soundtrack to Amelie. It is surprisingly easy to play on the piano. Easier than crossing that ridge.
Did this with my lads when I took the wrong path. Was thinking Oh God what have I done. They handled it well. I was the scared one but it still haunts me a little.
Beautiful place. I’ve done that in a white out.
Cracking footage - going to do it in the Spring 👍 liked and subbed your channel got a few vids on mine you may enjoy of Snowdonia. ATB Mark.
The guy with the hat is a lunatic 😂 I’d be shaking like a leaf making the step to that pillar
I've done it three times now, get more frightened each time. maybe a fourth time this year. Btw, you're bloody beautiful.
Merry Christmas Pipe, have a good one,
Merry Christmas to you too. Much more videos in 2022!!
Are the routes over the pinnacles towards the end of the ridge clearly marked?
Matey in the blue newly died like few times i felt like you was both sprinting along the top nut cases
Did it snow it was terrifying....now stick to miners track
1983 my Dad took me up there, then the clouds dropped and we were in a white out. Looking back with this video is scary.
The year of my birth.
@@pipewilliams.2039 oh great. Thanks for making me feel so old. Lol.
amazing :)
Amazing! Now imagine having a DJI drone to follow you and record the video so you you don't have to keep the camera on your hand. Looks spectacular and I wan't to do it soon.
I have a DJI drone and plan to do that next year.
The battery would be pushed to its absolute limit
look at Ardverikie Wall free solo by a climber called Dave McLeod on youtube.
Awesome footage! What's the piano piece please?
Thanks! the music piece is - comptine d'un autre été die fabelhafte welt der amélie piano.
Some impressive footage there 😅
Did this nearly 30 years ago with a bunch of mates including the somewhat eccentric Nick the Hippy who as usual was barefoot and carrying his guitar.!
What a scene that must have been!
Hi What the background music call? Thanks
Comptine D'un Autre Été, L'après-Midi
How many fall in a year, the risk is high?
From what I know, there are around 12 rescues from Crib Goch every year. I would only say its high risk if you are not careful.
F*ck That!
How do they walk so fast and without something in their hand. I would want my hands free for balance.
I practiced on my roof.
Make it look so easy, I wanna,do it but never done anything like it. Possible for a beginner?
yes definitely. just be careful. its also possible to walk a little lower than the actual ridge if you dont feel confident.
Homeboy in blue casually almost died like 6 times 😅
The best bit is when you get to the top and are in the caf'e with a sausage roll and a coffee!. 🙂😆😁....
What go pro model is this?:))
It was only a hero 3+ black
It just seems very crazy and they seem very walk in the park mentality when in reality one slip and down you go. They seem to have the face that these rocks are very solid and secure when they can actually break away every time you step on one and that could be your last step. I don’t think I would ever try this I value my life
You do you Steve. And I’ll do me.
Went over the rige 60 years ago in sports jacket jeans and leather shoes I was fourteen you do silly things when your young with no idea what was to come first time ever up snowdon.
Pmsl quality, my first peak in the lake District I did in a pair of Fred Perry tennis trainers and a bottle of coke, shit for brains or what, been doing it for 8 years now on a good level and have many wainwrights to my name and a few Munro's, crib Gogh is on the cards this Sunday for the first visit to wales
Good Boys 🔥🔥🔥
Just did this yesterday! How the fuck have you run over it with a camera pmsl crazy man
Nice music what is it
the piece is called - 'Comptine D'un Autre Été, L'après-Midi' Performed by various artists.
What song is this?
Plus he used only 1 arm to balance.
Great climb, great videos- just subscribed! Anyone who watches a lot of these Crib Goch daredevils might be able to help me out please- there was a similar one on YT until quite recently (now deleted I think), it'd also got a lot of views and been posted several years, the dude did a full panorama in slo-mo using a selfie stick from the Knife Edge ... Anyway- I'm now wanting to contact/identify the RUclipsr to find the epic music from the video. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I think I know the video you are talking about. It was probably the first ever go pro video of Crib Goch uploaded to YT. If its the same one you are thinking of the music he used was from the sound track to Last of the Mohicans. Track called "The Kiss"
So if you slip you've had it you can't grip with a gopro in your hand. Burk
I appreciate your concern for my safety. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy :)
🥾🎶😎
I did tryfan and glyder Fach today, shit myself, my mate wants to do crib goch next 😬
I’m only 10 I walked up snow which snow to the top
Good Job! next try Scarfel Pike.
4:34 what happens if one only has short legs
climb harder.
It would have been a wee bit better if we had seen some of the view but all we got was you lol.
The video was never about the view. It was about me. Thanks for watching me.
@@pipewilliams.2039 Click bait lol
What kind of footwear do you advise for Crib Goch?
Well I wear trail running shoes when I do scramble routes like this due to the good grip and flexibility. How ever the most sensible option would be something with a bit more ankle support. :)
I’m doing this on Friday, might try it in stilettos
Make sure you take a selfie if you do! 😆 enjoy 🤙🏻
Why on Earth can’t they use explosives to flatten the top and make it more accessible to all? Maybe install some viewing platforms too?
I'm not sure whether you are joking or not...
@@pipewilliams.2039 certainly not and I may start a petition to that effect. It’s not fair that only a few can traverse this route. It should be open to a greater diversity of hill walkers.
@@zandvoort8616 🤣 good one.
