DJs contract should have been 15 million a year. Nobody else would have signed him and they would have done us a favor if they did. Last year he threw 2 TDs to our guys = +2. He threw 2 TDs to the other team -2. He got 40 million for ZERO net TDs. In 9 starts he only threw 2 TDs, both against the lowly Cardinals. He got goose eggs the other 8. What am I missing?
NYG won 6 games with arguably the worst roster and one of the toughest schedules in the league in 2023. With Malik Nabers at WR, it opens up the offense so teams will not load the box to stop the run but back off the cover Naber and the others. On defense, we should have a better passs rush with Burns now. Prediction: 9-8 wildcard.
I actually disagree with Tyrod being a better backup than Lock. Maybe in terms of talent sure but I feel like the best thing a backup QB can guarantee you is durability. Tyrod doesn't provide that at all.
If the Offensive line can block the correct color jerseys we will be vastly improved Doesn't matter if we added Randy Moss and the Next Gino Smith backup. We still have to play 2 regular season power house teams in the regular season with Saquon now on one of them . I'm feeling a 9-8 season. And provided things are moving in the right direction overall I'm ok with that . Sneaking into the wildcard seems possible. But again the biggest unknown is still our biggest weakness with the Oline.
I agree that, barring unlikely really major improvements in play from the likes of Flott or McCloud (it HAS happened--think Andrew Thomas after his rookie year or Dexter Lawrence from season 3 to season 4, but I ain't optimistic here) and/or an even more unlikely Sauce Gardner-like rookie season for Nubin, the secondary is taking a major step backwards this season. (The are a few veteran CBs still out there that the Giants could sign with some of the Waller savings, including Adoree' Jackson, but I'd be surprised if Schoen goes that route.) However, there may be an even bigger stealth regression for the Giants--the interior defensive line. With the departure of Leonard Williams late in the season, the Giants have arguably the best DT in the NFL in Lawrence and ... well, a whole lot of nothing, really. A couple of veteran career backups and a few former Day 3 picks that have yet to show much. Frankly, while innumerable Giants fan bitch and moan about the team's failure to draft any OL, which was defensible IMO, I was more surprised by their failure to draft a DL, which may not have been. Update: Stupid me, I forgot we also lost A'shawn Robinson. This is worse than I stated earlier.
I am looking forward to see it, but until we dramatically improve the O-line we will not go anywhere. Period. Hopefully we did and it is noticeable. I pray!🙏🏼
Preseason is for evaluating backups and roll players. Hawkins, Neal, JMS, and Ezuedu looked great in preseason and they all sucked against starters in season.
I agree with Alex's assessment of Drew Lock. Lock has his moments when he looks like Josh Allen's talented cousin with his size and arm strength, but there's a reason why Lock has been a backup for most of his career. Lock is not accurate, struggles learning the playbook and processing in the pocket. Behind the Giants O-Line, Lock is going to struggle more than people realize. One guy no one has talked about (and I am not talking about Tommy DeVito) is Nathan Rourke. The Giants picked him up on waivers from New England. Rourke can play. He is a very accurate passer, he's very mobile, he will know that playbook inside out by training camp, and he is a very, very hard worker. Watch his pre-season footage last year for Jacksonville. He should have been named the backup over Beathard. Watch his CFL tape. Ohio plays in a smaller conference, but Rourke took them to 3 consecutive bowl victories. Watch his footage. Jones is going to get injured, and Lock is not going to cut it behind this offensive line. Daboll's job could be on the line if the Giants miss the playoffs again. You never know if Rourke will get a shot: ruclips.net/video/j0TuKZUbHsk/видео.html
Agreed. Most likely Giants are buried for the forseeable future with all the improvements made by the other NFC east teams. What improvement for the Giants? No QB. No secure OL. No depth anywhere. No CB2. Etc etc. 3-5 wins this year imho
Just the same as calling the Giants “most improved“ without having taken a snap, anointing Jayden Daniels, and praising the Washington Commanders moves, feels premature. Austin Ekeler is washed up, and Brandon Aiyuk doesn’t play for them yet. While Philly and Dallas are still miles ahead until proven otherwise, I don’t see them as these unstoppable juggernauts that can’t be overtaken. Well I can understand the skepticism from fans, it’s way too early to start getting negative about this team.
Lock COULD have a decent year if DJ isn't producing, he has good experience and is only 28 years old, he has room to grow for sure. I don't think he's going to light it up, but could potentially give big blue a winning season. Especially with our defence looking pretty solid this year.
I am probably the only one that saw this behavior but I think Saquon Barkley merely gave lip service to the concept of 'Team'. There were plays in critical situations that he let the team down. I'm not referencing his lack of 2018 superior production. I'm referencing his lack of football intelligence, of leaving it all on the field... I, for one, won't miss him in the backfield. It’s an interesting conversation, but it’s also incredibly speculative and dangerous to say how much value rookies will bring who’ve never played an nfl snap. Same with aging veterans changing teams like Keenan Allen or guys coming back from injury. Time will tell… I think Schoen and company did the best they could to improve this roster via FA and the draft with what they had available. How can Taylor be reliable when he gets hurt every time he plays? Tommy won games in that gimmicky offense and he is too limited for the offense Dabs wants to open up and run. You need a strong armed QB for that. Allen throws tons of ints also, and Geno was trash with multiple teams too. So I get where you are coming from but to say never, and then some of your points are off my man.
Taylor played great but both years he was hurt right away. If he could stay healthy he would be our QB1. But he got hurt both yrs so he can't even be QB2.
Sorry but two things I have to disagree with, one a minor disagreement and your own workds explain why its possible and the other is a big one. Small one is a possible Drew Lock breakout. Now do I expect it, absolutely not. Is it possible yes for two reasons. One as you said Lock looks like a Josh Allen arm talent that never really improved. Daboll had a hand in fixing that so much like Geno finally finding a coach to use him and fix is game to starter level it is possible. Also the One year allows for it to be better worked if it does happen without creating more of a media circus wirh the Jones contract. The big one is the Devito obsession. The guy is not an NFL QB, while he may have some swagger and the ability to rally a team, his release is too long and to slow, his reading of the field is only slighty quicker then Daniel Jones and he is basically a less talented version of Tim Tebow. A guy that managed to get wins inspite of his lack of ability and is more loved for name hype then on field skills. Yes he is cheap and thats wonderful, but he is also not helping advance the tram in anyway other then maybe merchandise sales.
How can you say Taylor is reliable and consistent, and than say he has injury problems? Both their takes were trash. How you downing Lock when you dont even know what our c level QB, "Jones" will be after a major injury. And PLEASE stop with the danny D talk.
Hey Alex maybe if you are more positive about your team then maybe they can be better. I understand the frustration but that's how the Giants are they will frustrate you and then out of no where win a couple of super bowls. I really enjoy y'all here on fireside but every time Alex is about to talk about the team, I say to myself here it comes, a few minutes of straight negativity. Alex just gave other teams "improvement status" without them even playing with unproven players but the Giants must prove it to him during the season. Like I said, I understand the frustration but at least be consistent across the board.
Me being positive will make the Giants better? I did that for TWO years and it didn't work lol I used to be the eternal optimist and now I don't have the energy to be. If you talked about this team every year for 5 years you'd be the same way, believe me.
Pinnock played well last year especially at the end of the year. And the yr b4 when he replaced McKenney there was no drop off. He is proven above ave FS. Belton is faster than McKenney and has as many turnovers as McKenney in 2 starts as McKenney had in 15. And Nubin was highest rated S in draft so 1 of them should work out.
How can they be the most improved team when they haven’t even played yet????You have no idea about the OL or the QB play. bias?
Bull shit on drew lock
Our secondary is unproven, Both ssfties questionable, 2nd CB, & slot is questionable.
@Thagomizer-U235 WE have alot of YOUTH back there
McKinney was good but mid
65% 30%.. Alex be pulling numbers out his a$$.. getting hard to listen too
What are you talking about?
This dude Alex doesn't like the Giants for real
I love the Giants, they just hate us being happy lmao
How can they be the most improved team when they haven’t even played yet????You have no idea about the OL or the QB play. We have a bunch of rookies who aren’t battle tested yet .I know you’re excited about the season but give me a break. This is a young team with some good parts but we’re still a long way ogff
Agreed on where we are (year 2/3 of the rebuild), but nothing wrong with some optimism.
agreed and we said the SAME thing in the podcast
Most improved in the league? Really?
You guys still comparing singletary to barkley? Lmaooo. Ok. Not Even close. By week 4 singletary wont be able to run. The disrespect you guys spill sometimes smh.
we talked about how he's a cheaper option and is still solid, what are you talking bout
@@firesidegiants what the hell are you talking about. Cheaper does not mean better. Getting quality sneakers vs the defunct payless wont get you durable footwear
@@firesidegiants its insane how some giants fans cope. You think the team will go far with an ok rb a low tier qb? Thank goodness we have malik nabers but the kool aid is real with some of yall
Bears rookies are unproven in the nfl
most improved? how bout we play a game first 🤷🏾♂️
Alex loves players we dont have smfh. Done
I loved draft prospects -- I love a LOT of Giants players, we just don't have a lot of reliable ones
Go get wirfs!!!!
Lock is a bad decision maker and is inaccurate. But other than that he's good.😁
Uh dude... Your assessment is totally forgetting about last year...he cut significantly down in innacuracy as well as bad decision making... But we wouldn't want to confuse your opinion with actual facts.. 😅
@@JohnGavin-r1lYou mean 1 good game against Eagles banged up secondary?
Guess I’m the only one who thinks drew lock is better than Daniel jones.. I’m sorry but jones is trash,, I would rather see Tommy devito or drew lock start before jones
This guy.......
Stefon and d hunt are old as fck
I’ve gotta unsubscribe from this!! Alex Wilson you’re too negative for me!!
so being honest is negative?
Dw lock wont be needed cause Danny Dimes has a break out year with a better o line better Dline. plus our WR room is the best DJ has had. So wait our defence got worst cause of X ????ALEX YOU CLEARY DONT KNOW SHIT. GO GAINTS
Losing McKinney could hurt us if our front don’t get pressure.. our secondary is young n McKinney was great for us
@hafizmccallum7041 how many Ints did X get last season ? Not more than Belton or Jason ? That's why they let him go. With Burns on the Dline & we going back to Zone defense, their will be no Corners on an island. How will the defense be worst ??? Stop it
Bears hands down
Drew Lock sucks.
@COPPIZZLE HOLLA AT EM
lmao that loser wouldn't last a second in a real conversation
