    If I mix it for 5 minutes, it gets rock solid still in the mixing bin. Try 30 seconds to 1 minute.

    You got your figures wrong you said multiply the weight of the plaster by 6.5 it should be 0.65

      Thanks Deakin Kell

      Also he wrongly stated that plaster weight should be 'multiplied' by 6.5 (or correctly, 0.65). Plaster weight will be divided by it or water weight multiplied.
      But good informative video

      This makes sense as the mixture I did by following him became far too thick. I had to shake it roughly to get it to go in.

    I want to know how much area a pound of plaster will cover. I finally gathered several molds just in case and a pound will fill a pie pan about half way. 1 inch deep by about 10 inches across.

    If you listen to the video, there is some interesting (note: I didn't say useful) information. However, if you watch the video.... you will see a lot of bad practices, bumbling around, and downright "Don't-do-that-ever" clips. wow

    Before I knew about this, I I made an anime head sculpture using patching plaster for holes on walls since that's all I had. Yes it's true.

    Do you use release agent before you pour the plaster?

    Although I take all the steps mentioned in your video, I still get a few small pin holes from air bubbles. Does it make sense to mix up a small amount of the original powder to fill in the pin holes rather than using an off the shelf filler?

    • @CapeCrystalBrands
      @CapeCrystalBrands 4 года назад +8

      No matter how careful you are. Elimination of pin holes can only be accomplished in a vacuum chamber.

    I'm glad I saw this. I did my first plaster cast in a VERY long time and unfortunately I stirred the water WHILE adding plaster... a big no no

    • @EnvironMolds
      @EnvironMolds  5 лет назад +2

      You should be okay. Though the cast will not be as strong as one made by allowing the plaster to sit in the water undisturbed. Just be more carefully in handling the cast as it will be more fragile. We wish you all the best

    • @KRGraphicsCG
      @KRGraphicsCG 5 лет назад

      @@EnvironMolds I ended up doing a new cast and I let the plaster sit for 20 minutes in the water... and after it settled, I poured off the water off the top, mixed it up, and poured it into my silicone mould...
      Now it feels very solid and I'll be waiting for a week so it can cure

    Mine's a very small project. Three 5x7" tiles had fallen off a vertical porch surface. I may have used too much water, but the tiles are very light and I guess I'll know the outcome in 24-48 hours. The video was very thorough, but I didn't absorb the part @ water/plaster til I'd already affixed one'a the tiles. If it doesn't hold, I'll try it again, watching the ratio closer.
