On March 8th, 2013, Snarky Puppy and a host of special guests convened at the Jefferson Center in Roanoke VA. The project was to record a series of live performances in audio and video that would bring attention and benefit to the ongoing work of the center. The Jefferson Center is a non-profit arts organization that is revitalizing a key neighborhood in Roanoke with the restoration of Jefferson High School and the renovation of the Shaftman Performance Hall. The hall brings world class music to the local community through the Music Lab, providing education and recording space for local children.
The Music Lab at Jefferson Center is working daily to pull from every social and economic class of the Roanoke community and create the next wave of real, human musicians. They host low cost or free after-school programs for any interested young people filled with visits by guest artists, private instrumental instruction, and recording training. Wafting out of the little studios and rehearsal rooms on the third floor of Jefferson Center, you can hear Afro-beat in Swahili, hip-hop in Liberian Kreyol, the blues coming from the guitar of a 13 year-old prodigy, and the undeniable sound of young musicians growing. It's a thing that needs to be supported at all costs across this country, and by purchasing this record, you've done it.
A portion of every sale will go to the Music Lab at Jefferson Center.

I can't get enough!!!
I lost everything that I had, trying to pursue a Music degree. I got depressed, and in about 1 month, I will have a surgery in which a kidney will be removed. When I tried to kill myself, this song came up from nowhere and made me cry so bad. I can say, this song saved my life. It is now my motto, trying to fight back and stand up again.

Hope your surgery went well, I spend an awful lot of time in dialysis clinic right now so I'm always on the side of getting better from kidney issues. Don't feel bad, I had seen the name and I think I thought it was a Rock band and just past them by. I first listen to them about two weeks ago.
I could see myself in my living room in front of the fireplace with my husband listening to Snarky puppys all day and all night long....I love Chantae Cann too!!! Yall are great!!!
The great thing about this song is that you can *hear* the smile in Chantae Cann's voice and it's very contagious! :-)

@@earfulaudio5199 This isn't related to what you're talking about at all but you just reminded me of something really funny that I witnessed a long time ago.
This would've been in the mid-90's sometime. There was a local parody band called "The Electric Amish" and when they performed live, they all dressed in typical Amish wardrobe, and they all had long beards. The really funny thing (other than the parody songs themselves) was that one of the "band" members rode on a stationary bicycle at the side of the stage for the entire show. You see, the bicycle was needed to generate the electricity for their instruments. Because they were Amish.
Anyway, that still makes me laugh whenever I think about it. Hope you're having a good day!

If there's a lyrical message that evokes freeing the spirit ... "reaching up and touch the sky" while providing rewards similar to basting in sunshine ... that soulfully hints to Randy Crawford vocal warmth and Jill Scott essence- it's this song, these lyrics- vocalist Chantae Cann. As a fan- I'd be remiss not to acknowledge the good choice to introduce the song w/ the essence of Roy Ayers' "Everybody Loves ... the Sunshine." It certainly kicks things off with a sensual yet joyful spirit ... dare say 'tribute' to this historic figure. For those who don't know- Mr Ayers was an early pioneer to help pave the way in the fusion of R & B /Jazz for artists since the 70s. Shouts out to Ms. Chantae Cann and Snarky Puppy for great collaboration and culmination ... all done in wonderfully good taste. Maurice Baker

My Dad was a real fan of the Big Bands like Duke Ellington. When I told him my heart just wasn’t in playing trumpet after 3 years of private lessons - and I wanted a guitar - well he was disappointed to say the least. “Son, there’s nothing to this R& R....” he told me. Well I should of stayed with that horn. And he would have been a big fan of Snarky Puppy. The American Big Band alive. Oh....he bought me a guitar from a pawn shop the next weekend.
