Josh you are the most down to earth no bull sh-- person on everything 22LR I have seen on RUclips. It is a privilege to watch you videos. As a rather old 22 LR shooter I learn stuff just about everytime I watch your videos.
Eley and Lapua are excellent. We use RWS R100. Our Anschutz loves the RWS. My son shoots Biathlon and these three companies reign supreme. SK and Wolf are also used but are of lesser quality. Unfortunatley it all depends on what you can get. But lot testing is 100% absolutely necessary. Bought 9 lots and found 2 that my gun liked. Bought 4 cases of the one.
I know your struggles Josh, I was in the Army for six years my little brother 4 22years. My uncle did two tours of Vietnam. You never know how much I greatly appreciate people who served in the military
Much experience has demonstrated to me that Eley Tenex, and Match, will shoot tight groups across lots, but can produce groups an inch apart at 100 yards between lots. You cannot mix lots and expect similar impact points, buy you can trust that any lot will be excellent. I've known about how Eley ammo gets distinguished between Tenex and Black since around 1974. Back in my competition days, there were shooters who swore that Eley Match shot better in their particular rifles (mostly Anschutz). I could shoot 400x40X at 50 yards all day with either, but used Tenex for national matches. Both Match and Tenex are excellent, and worth it, if you're good enough.
I have built several custom. 22lrs Some for long distance, others for plinking. There's only one thing that all my buildings have common. Eley ammo. For some if I try to use different ammo, I get failure to eject issues. This ammo allows me to "break in" my new builds. Usually after 150 rounds I can throw anything round wise into my builds. Thanks for making this video.
Nice having you back. I put a Tika t1x in a KRG stock. I haven't shot it much yet. I've always shot lot numbers of centerfire rifle ammo. Thank you for the explanation of 22lr ely ammo designation.
Hey thanks for vids and an much lighter bank account. Got into reloading to shoot long range and while I was waiting for primers and such I built some 22LR AR's. As I had a stupid amount of 22LR and it kept me shooting weekly during the component drought... Fast forward to a guy at my 50y range making smiley faces with a 22LR Rugger Precision rifle and I am like uh hey that looks like fun.. Started researching precision 22LR found your channel... You have covered all the questions I had with your vids from what rifles to look at and ammo...So off I went to locate my new toy... I landed on a CZ 457 Varmint Precision Chassis, 24" Suppressor-Ready.. Rounded up most of the Ammo you recommend so I am ready ..... Thanks again for the great vids.
You sur are absolutely correct I have shot all three Eley grades in TeneX, Match, and Team Odly of the current lots of Match and Team I have they both shoot equally well out of my B14R and T1X but surprisingly the Match has more fliers than the Team IN MY GUNS and if I had to pick which to shoot a ARA or NRL card I'd unquestionably use my Eley Team Now next lot#s of Team or Match I get it might reverse one never knows until you shoot it. It's not neccassarally bad ammo just bad in YOUR GUN
Back in the day we shot prone rifle at 25, 50 and 100 yards. If you didn't score 100 at 25 yards every time you were out of the running. We all shot Anschutz rifles with either supermatch or prone stocks and rigorously tested every make of ammo then available. Eley were by far the most consistant. At the time the three were Tenex, Match and Club, my rifle preferred Match over Tenex but that was unusual. Club was definitely inferior. I bought it by the 1000 case to maintain a good supply of a given Lot. Eley would allow you to visit their facility and test your rifle with various Lots if you wanted, I never saw the need but some did. When asked, Eley told us that all three came off the same machines with the same settings BUT Tenex came off first after fitting new dies, Match came off when the dies started to show a little wear and then Club until the dies were worn out of spec.
My understanding is that which label goes on which batch of ammunition depends on how it perform in Eley’s 4 test barrels at their testing range. I have had some batches of Match which outperform Tenex in MY barrel. Similarly, I have a friend who has found a batch of Team that outperforms Tenex in THEIR (very expensive Swiss) target rifle. I also have a batch of Tenex which I selected at their test range last summer which has turned out to be awful... Final anecdote - a few years back, while training at an indoor 50m range with electronic targets, I compared three batches of Tenex (all selected at Eley’s test range) by shooting from the shoulder with SCATT attached to the rifle. Only one of the three batches delivered shots on the target that agreed with the point of aim that SCATT indicated. I used that ammunition in competition the next day and shot a PB. These days, I will buy a couple of boxes of Match at every opportunity and shoot it from the shoulder (with SCATT) on a calm day at 50m and 100y to assess its performance. My buying decision is then based on whether I feel it’s equal to or better than what I already have in my safe. I don’t believe that testing ammunition from a barrel clamped in a vise (the way Eley and Lapua do it) necessarily translates to the real world. What works in your rifle from the shoulder might be very different from what works in the 4 clamped barrels on the Eley test range - but manufacturers need SOME simple way to differentiate their product lines, even if it’s less than optimal.
@@duncanmcneill7088 Hi Duncan, I would expect that things have changed since the time I was shooting back in the 70's and 80's (I don't even know what SCATT is?). It does sound like you have similar results though. I suppose it was odd that my rifle consistently preferred Match over Tenex when everyone else found the opposite and I do agree that the only 'truthful' way to test ammo is to shoot it in your own rifle.

One of my custom built .22 rifles shoots best with Ely Tenex but the other three shoot best with Lapua Midas+. It's all about what the rifle "likes". Hello, thanks for a great review. Unfortunately I can't really afford this ammo. I was wondering if you have ever reviewed Federal Premium HV Match for long range shooting? Or Geco Match 22LR 40gr? Or Prime Ammo Performance + 22LR? These are a little more affordable for us on a budget.

Josh, do I understand you right when you say the three different shells can be from the same lot number? Such as all three could have the same lot number.
My understanding is that when they don't have enough Match to fill their orders, they will box product that tested as Tenex as Match to fill the order. The Tenex lot numbers start with a 10 and Match lot numbers start with 11. Eley Match lots that start with 10 actually passed Tenex specs. At least, that is the rumor...
I've had so much trouble with dubs and squibs, I only buy top grade ammo despite price. I've seen 2 ringed barrels of expensive guns. A friend ruined the barrel of a Walther pistol with a squib. I found a squib solely because the bullet was stuck in the throat of the barrel. Had it been an inch further in I would have ringed a bull barrel - Very frustrating.
Great seeing you again Josh plugging away with your 22lr. Have to say that i have called 6 different places to order 22 for when i get mine delivered. Everyone of the WILL NOT allow you to buy different lots. Stating that when they are done selling that particular lot of ammo, they will open the next case. No one i have contacted allows me to buy multiple lots of ammo. Unfortunately, but true.
@Pursuit of Accuracy good information but i am going the Lapua route. Maybe they will do the same for that brand too. Again great seeing you plugging away..
Josh (or anybody that sorts with positive results) I have recently fell further down the rabbit hole by sorting my match ammo. I purchased a jeweler scale that measures down to .000 - Is this 3rd decimal unnecessary? or just focus on the division to the .00 ? Also, I was the last to purchase Neal Waltzs 22RF Re-profiler Die {2/15/23} that mimics Eleys Flat/nipple ballistic design. -- I have not had enough range data to see if that re-profiled nose improves groups. Any experience with ballistic nose re-profiling ? Thanks for the great videos ....I have learned a lot.
Its not that they grab a new set of materials its just a natural occurence as they are running machines with different batches of bullets, primed brass, powder etc. I think they do vary powder charge between lots but thats most likely all they intentionally change
Great Video, Josh! Welcome back ... quick question. What scope mount are you using on top of the Area 419 rail? It looks like it allows the scope to be mounted forward of where I am able to get mine.
Yes of course. If you found black box that was ideal for your barrel (speed etc) it cpuld easily outperform red box if the red box lot wasnt the right speed that your barrel liked. In a situation where you had black and red box that your barrel preferred you would likely see the red box outperforming the black box ammo, especially at distance.
@@PursuitofAccuracy I thought so. There's much bigger difference as regards quality and consistency between blue and black box then between black and red box
@@imeprezime1285 im not certain at what specific amount of deviation seperates them. But yes its all the same ammo until its tested and then packaged according to its consistency and testing results
Hey Josh, thank you for your great Videos and best explanations…!👍🏼 What do you think about the actually barrel harmonics discussions in the RUclips gunworld…?? Is it worth it to mount a barrel tuner on a .22 lr rifle…??? Can we all get better results in accuracy with that…? I'd be glad if you could mention the topic in one of your videos. Thank you.
@@PursuitofAccuracy Okay…! Thank you for the answer.👍🏼 I'll try it out and hope I will experience a success with my new 457 MTR .22 lr as well as with my Tikka 6.5 CM centre fire…! Thank you for the excellent video Josh. It's really great to see Killough step up and support your channel with some ammo. I just went to their website and it's got loads of other stuff that I was interested in too.
And how you can buy a SPECIFIC lot when you find the right one? I have not seen any online store that publish lot numbers TO PICK FROM, not even Champion Choice. What I an missing?
So, just curious when you are switching between the eley like that did you re-zero for that ammunition? Im assuming you did Ive only shot Norma Tac-22 out of mine and just ordered some Eley Match to test which I know ill have to re-zero im just excited to try some nice ammo! The Norma worked great for me in matches but my rifle is so nice i feel like im doing it an injustice by using the norma lol
Love your vids Josh! Keep em comming! But how can u order a special lot of ammo? When i order ammo i just get what they send me! Am i just stupid or how does that work?
hello josh I can't find the mount of the camera to the optics if you are so kind to give me a purchase link you would give me a man!!! Jahshs I can't find it!! eley great ammunition the team works very well in the bergara greetings and thanks
So if the ammo is made at the same time and just separated by quality.... are the Lot numbers the same between them? For example, can Tenex, Match and Club all have the same lot number?? If one sends their rifle in to get tested, and they tell me Tenex Lot xyz123 shoots best, it seems like it would be a good idea to get both the Tenex and some practice ammo like club or match from the same lot..... or is that just wishful thinking? Thanks for the videos. I learn a lot from your videos and I try to share them when I can.
No they will all have different lot numbers. So the entire lot of ammo is being tested and graded. So when the machine finishes its run its tested and then either assigned to be tenex, match, or team based on testing results.
Psh that mirage shield is required "looks awesme stuff" on the mdt. Id run it on an air rifle if I could 🤣🤣 Its also a way to add a prism later down the road
I run a suppressor cover on my 22lr, has nothing to do with heat or mirage and everything to do with not scratching the crap out of it when moving from prop to prop.....looks cool though. :)

Hey Josh, thank you for your great Videos and best explanations…!👍🏼
What do you think about the actually barrel harmonics discussions in the RUclips gunworld…??
Is it worth it to mount a barrel tuner on a .22 lr rifle…???
Can we all get better results in accuracy with that…?
I'd be glad if you could mention the topic in one of your videos.
Thank you.
They do change harmonics but i dont run them. To me its just another variable to the rifle thats not necessary
@@PursuitofAccuracy Okay…!
Thank you for the answer.👍🏼
I'll try it out and hope I will experience a success with my new 457 MTR .22 lr as well as with my Tikka 6.5 CM centre fire…!
Everything for the accuracy…!✊🏻
A Lothar Walther Barrel is on my wish list aswell.
Thank you for your great videos and
have a good time.
Do you think that Eley Target is worth using as well?
Ive had decent luck with it. Eley team be better though
@@PursuitofAccuracy good to know 👍 it’s hard to find Eley in stock anywhere locally, may have to order some Team online
@@elias_nichols yeah team has been really good for the $$ for me. Check killough to see if they have any in stock
@@PursuitofAccuracy thanks! appreciate the tips Josh! Keep up the awesome work. You’re the reason I went with a CZ
Josh, what bi-pod are you using there?
Where do you order from that shows you the LOT numbers? Found a bunch of ammo in stock but not seeing the LOT numbers.
Killough shooting sports
How about eley club?
Its a totally different line of eley.
What is PO BoX number refered in the Eley box ?
The numbers indicate the ammo type, year of manufacturer, machine number, batch number of that machine, and their tested average velocity
What mount are you using for the GoPro to look through the scope?
Its a side shot scopecam
Do you know if the Eley Standard, Sport and Club ammo is also just varying quality on the same product by lot testing?
Im not sure about that line but it's probably a safe bet that they are
What is the brand and model of the bipod on the rifle?
Accutac fc4 arca
Great video. Thanks
Thank you for the excellent video Josh. It's really great to see Killough step up and support your channel with some ammo. I just went to their website and it's got loads of other stuff that I was interested in too.
Thanks Jeff I appreciate it
Welcome back
Thanks
Thank you for a great video
Appreciate it
How can you order ammo from a specific lot? I have never seen that option on any site.
Killough shootings website offers that
And how you can buy a SPECIFIC lot when you find the right one? I have not seen any online store that publish lot numbers TO PICK FROM, not even Champion Choice. What I an missing?
Killough shooting sports
Competition drives demand for eley.
Hunting is a different purpose. Subsonic is another requirement outside U.S.
Is that just a mirage shield over the barrel in front of the scope?
Yes or a conveinant place to add a prism
What kind of scope cam are you using?
Sideshot
So, just curious when you are switching between the eley like that did you re-zero for that ammunition? Im assuming you did Ive only shot Norma Tac-22 out of mine and just ordered some Eley Match to test which I know ill have to re-zero im just excited to try some nice ammo! The Norma worked great for me in matches but my rifle is so nice i feel like im doing it an injustice by using the norma lol
If im testing ammo i dont bother redoing my zero.
Love your vids Josh! Keep em comming! But how can u order a special lot of ammo? When i order ammo i just get what they send me! Am i just stupid or how does that work?
Killough shooting sports and other places sell it by the lot #
hello josh I can't find the mount of the camera to the optics if you are so kind to give me a purchase link you would give me a man!!! Jahshs I can't find it!! eley great ammunition the team works very well in the bergara greetings and thanks

To think i was laughed at in the 1990's when i told people i could see the bullet in flight to the 100yd target in NBRSA with a Leupy 36 X .
If they laughed at you they were not looking through very good glass 🤣
Thank you!
Outstanding video and CONGRATULATIONS on WO school from an old gray beard retired guy.
Thanks Brian
Good shooting!!!
What rifle area you shooting?
Cz 457
There is a difference between Match & Tenex . Tenex is lubricated with beeswax-tallow & Match is lubed with paraffin wax.
Yes after its sorted from the same machines
I cant find match grade ammo in my area. Can anybody recommend online sources?
Goodshootinginc, creedmoor sports, blue collar reloading, killough shooting sports
@@PursuitofAccuracy thank you!
I like elley is very accurate ammo
It cracks me up that you have a mirage shield on a 22lr.
Psh that mirage shield is required "looks awesme stuff" on the mdt. Id run it on an air rifle if I could 🤣🤣
Its also a way to add a prism later down the road
@@PursuitofAccuracy Im not saying I don’t dig it, definitely “looks cool” stuff.. nightforce wedge does the trick too.
I run a suppressor cover on my 22lr, has nothing to do with heat or mirage and everything to do with not scratching the crap out of it when moving from prop to prop.....looks cool though. :)
What scope is that? Thanks

@@PursuitofAccuracy thanks for the response man! If I would have waited 30 seconds longer you said it in the video but like a dumb dumb I commented without finishing the whole thing. However I do really appreciate your response and not calling me a dumb dumb for not paying attention haha
