    A lot of people don't realize that beavers can be very beneficial for waterways but they can also destroy a lot of woodland as well if they are not controlled. So it might seem cruel to destroy their dams but leaving their dam building unchecked can mean the loss of woodlands which affects other wildlife.

    • @jimlepeu577

    • @fordguy8792
      @fordguy8792 6 лет назад +2

      Wrong. Man has done more to wreck the natural balance than any number of Beavers could ever do. Without interference, the beaver environment evolves and changes in a natural manner. And were it not for mans ruthless extermination of predator species, beavers would not run "uncontrolled". Ultimately, the environment dictates how many beavers any given area can support. It's only man that seems to think he knows what's "good" and what's "bad" for the ecosystem. The only ecosystem beavers truly "threaten" is that of man.

      @@fordguy8792 Not just ecosystem but also people’s interests are important. Beavers cause damages on river regulation, on forestry... I think it gives pretty good reasons for the elimination of beavers. You may let beavers be in wetland reservations, not in the cultural landscape.

    • @paintedwings74
      @paintedwings74 4 месяца назад

      @@lukasbejcek8841 Humans have overtaken pretty much the whole planet. These days the beavers are being returned to a lot of habitats they once lived in, because it's so much healthier for the ecosystem, AND for the local watershed, which affects farming. I could see trapping them for food and fur at a rate they can recover from, but trying to keep them from doing all their natural behaviors is begging for problems with flooding and local water table recharge, and even increases the risks of wildfires. There are a lot of DNR programs that will help farmers / rural landowners with donating a piece of property to nature restoration, and making it a financially viable decision. Leave some room for the rest of the species on the planet, especially river and creek bottoms where you're not trying to grow anything anyway.
      We keep a family of beavers in our local park by fencing the valuable trees and making sure there's lots of willow growing near the pond for them to eat instead. They occasionally try to dam the only outflow from the pond, so we're installing a diversion fence to keep that from happening. If we can do that in a 200 acre city park, it's definitely possible to do it in a rural setting.
