JAPAN: A Day in Photography Paradise

- The second day in Osaka is a little different than expected: after getting lost on the way to the Umeda sky building it started to rain which is why we explored a second hand camera store as well as Yodobashi Camera Umeda, the biggest camera/tech store in Osaka. On top of that we visit a light show by TeamLab in the botanical garden where I took some of my favorite photos of the trip so far.

No worries! Glad to be a part of the journey in this way!
If your partner isn't into photography like mine, they deserve extra love for the patience to follow us in those kinds of stores for hours 😂
Ohhh yes, 100% credit to them for doing this for/with us haha. But we went to a lot of cafés and record shops to even it out haha.
These last 2 videos have been among my favourite Japan videos ever. So chilled, and really enjoyable to just join you on a walk, experience Japan through your eyes.
Definitely agree with how surprisingly hard it is to find Fuji, and that was even before they stopped production. And even if overdone, I liked very much your geometric shots at the beginning.
@@NorbiWhitney thanks so much for the kind words Norbi, I appreciate it and am glad to hear you like them - especially since I know you have been to Japan several times and I made really incredible videos about your trips yourself. I was hoping to maybe still find some Natura 1600 somewhere but I realized quickly this was wishful thinking haha
@@KarinMajoka Very kind of you to say too.
Yeah I just struck gold by going to an exhibition Fukukawa Takashi was holding, and he was getting rid of some old colour stock for like €3/roll, including 3 rolls of Natura. That's never happening again.
I love Japan and photography, so these videos are just the best!
Japan and photography is a combination that is inseparable ✌🏼 thanks for watching!
Juhuuu ! Das Japan-Adventure geht weiter ! Tolle Fotos ! Vor allem die Architektur-Fotos am Anfang sind Deluxe 👍🏻
Danke dir für den Kommentar, freut mich, dass du etwas mit dem Video und den Bildern anfangen konntest! :)
Discovered your channel recently from your Osaka posts and enjoying the chill vibes 😬 No worries for getting lost in Osaka, it’s taken me a year or so living here to finally feel like I know my way around all the underground walkways, only to end up at an exit completely different to what I thought 😅
Oh that’s wild, I have been watching and enjoying your videos for years at this point (and can say that they probably also played a role why I wanted to go back to Japan so badly again) - so thank you for stopping by my channel, I feel super honored! And thanks for the heads up, it’s good to hear it’s not just me who gets lost haha.
Babe wake up. Karin dropped another Japan video.
♥️
So love your stuff. Great to watch an honest authentic person. Never change.
Thanks so much, these words mean a lot! 🤍
Very nice the lastest pictures in the exhibition, with that shadows and colors, I really love it ❤ the camera shops are literally insane! I can’t wait to see the next video. Cheers!
Thank you so much for the kind words, these were my favorites from the episode as well! At first I was disappointed I did not photography as much that day, but the images from the exhibition made up for it :)
Looks like you are having an amazing time and great that you took the time to make this video and share it. Loved the camera shops
Thanks so much for your comment, much appreciated :)
I also urgently need to go to Japan in the next few years. The camera shops look sooo great. Not to mention the good food and the insight into cultural differences.
Absolutely agree! I am sure you would love it, so I hope you can make it one day!
I love film but the feedback loop in these situations is so valuable. Thanks again for doing this work. I really enjoy the vlog vibe!
Thanks so much for your comments Clinton, I appreciate it :)
Great video Karin! Japan is such a magical place and I always love visiting! I've recently found your channel and been going through a lot of your content! I appreciate the creativity and dedication you put into creating these amazing videos and also love your photos! Subscribed!
I loved seeing some of the cameras I have owned in that store…memories 😊📸
Cameras can be so nostalgic :)
Great video that Karin. Very enjoyable.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it :)
I've been frequenting Japan since the mid 90's, Osaka being my favourite city, it has it all. Just need to keep it a secret from all the other YT channels who make a beeline for Tokyo If only they knew ...
Excited for more ;)
@@AlexOnStreets oh, me too! Need to speed up on the editing though 💪🏼
The light show shots were really beautiful.
Thank you so much, I appreciate it!
I agree that it is easy to get lost in Japan. The cities are build in 3D where you change levels so frequently that it can be disorienting. Maps do not help. Experienced going around the Shibuya station just to get across the street multiple times.
Oh yes, I totally agree! It’s kind of fun getting lost though and discovering new things - but when you are in a hurry and need to go somewhere fast, it’s a nightmare. I cannot even remember how many times I got lost inside shinjuku station searching for the right exit haha
So fun Karin! Would love to bop around Japan looking at camera and vintage hahaha
Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it :) Japan certainly is a dream for that! But prices are also not what they used to be anymore
Always buy the vest.
Rarely wear it but always be happy when you do.
Hahahaha love the comment! If I find one in my size one day I might actually give it a try 😬
If you ever travel to California plan to visit the light show in Paso Robles!
I'll put it on the list, thanks for the recommendation! :)
That walking montage in the beginning was incredible! Great job on the video. Also the beginning made me laugh - it also took me aaaages to get to umeda sky building the first time (20 years ago???)
Thanks so much Phil, it was so much walk for like 2 seconds in the video but I also feel like it was worth it haha. Glad to hear I am not the only one who struggled with finding the way!
I loved Japan and want to go back really badly - we were there in January of this year. Now that we did the tourist scene I want to get out into the country side.
I feel you on this one, it's just been a couple of months since the trip and I already want to go back so urgently. And just as you, next time I would to more rural and less touristy things!
You made my day.... 🥰🥰🥰
☺️✌🏼
You're so much more responsible than I would be! I think I would have wasted all of my money on Fuji Slide film since it's getting so much rarer!
Luckily, I am not a big slide film fan, otherwise I might have went crazy here as well. I brought a lot of film from home so the urge to buy a lot was not as strong (which left more budget for Ramen haha).
Hey Karin, what was the bag called that you used to keep your camera dry in the rain? Around 15:52
It’s called „Äkki Säkki“, a small little company from Berlin worth checking out :)
I think I was the follower who recommended Yaotomi, but I presume others did too! So cool you went there. Great video! You have me psyched up to go back in November! I hope you make a zine/book about your travels in Japan because your shots turned out fantastic.
Very possible it was you! It certainly flooded into my messages several times when I posted that I will be in Osaka but I remember getting one message with it as a recommendation when I was only like 300 meters away so I had no other choice than going :D
City bakery has the best cookies out there!
I can approve, they were pretty damn good! :)
Didn’t notice it when I was there, but now I watch your video: the walkways up the umeda skybuilding look like strips of film
Ohhh totally! Not that you said it I cannot unsee it either!
Thank you for this video, it was very atmospheric. I have an upcoming trip to Japan in 6 weeks, and I'm still struggling to decide whether to take my beloved Leica M6 with me on this trip and deal with the possible xray scans of film at the airport or having to bring a tripod for some night photography or instead just bringing my Leica M11 without having to worry about all that but missing the joy and feel of shooting film and the unique color renditions of film. There is also an element of romanticising having physical negatives in your hand, that I've crafted myself, as opposed to digital.
Will certainly visit a few vintage camera stores in Japan and try the amazing food! Also thanks for recommending the teamlab botanical garden in Osaka. I did not know of this one and now it's definitely on my list of places to visit.
Is there a possibility to bring both, the M6 and M11? So you can decide on a daily basis which one is better suited for that particular situation of the day. At least that’s what I did and I found it to give me more flexibility. I wouldn’t have wanted to miss out on film, so this was a given to me - but going through the whole airport thing was stressful. It really depends on luck of the allow hand checking or not. In any way: have a good trip and hopefully you can make a decision about the gear :)
:) Dann weiterhin viel Erfolg beim Sparen ✌
👍👊✨ I’ll be in Japan in late October and early November
I am so jealous, I want to go back. Enjoooy! :)
Yoo.. I live in Japan. I know well the feeling of holding back from spending money at second hand camera stores. The temptation is real!!
When living there you are confronted with it often so I assume it’s even harder to hold back - but also luxury to be able to pop into those stores anytime! :)
@@KarinMajoka I'm struggling all the time haha.. but yeah, I got some cheap gears from time to time. Lucky 🍀
I was in osaka in 2019, just before christmas, and the umeda sky building is really confusing to get to, and I actually do have a good sense of direction! the different levels really dont help!
Glad to hear I was not the only one! Japan around Christmas must be really nice as well :)
loving these japan vlogs. thank you. i miss it there so much.
No FOMO I shoot with a Sony RX100vii-but found what you said amusing, thanks.
It’s a nice camera though, I have shot some of my older videos with an RX! And thanks for the comment :)
@@KarinMajoka My pleasure.
Film is getting so expensive overseas. 😮
Oh yeah, it's wild.

Your posts became very boring and not inspiring anymore, so I am sorry here I have to stop following you after 3 years of what used to be very inspiring content👋
Bye bye, thanks for sticking around for such a long time though 👋🏼
