I heard this from twitter so take this with a grain of salt, but the reason Tenacious D probably got their tour canceled isn't them saying they're gonna stop, but nearly every venue getting bombarded with complaints and threats, and them cancelling. The joke was in bad taste, but not nearly as bad as some other jokes I've heard that no one blinked at. If this was said a year from now(or even just a month from now), there probably wouldn't be anyone that cared.

I currently work for a subcontracting company that works for meta, and the illegal/unethical scrapping of data does not at all come as a shock to me. I have read things that are more than likely incredibly sensitive data, and they come from all parts of the internet (although a lot of it comes from Facebook and Instagram). I'm confident all of the major AI players subcontract the unethical data scrapping to specifically avoid any and all liability in training their AI. There needs to be laws and regulation in this field ASAP.
naknoll, you have the chance to help. If AI content gets too good to tell the difference between it and real content then people will not realize and watch more and more of it. If this happens, it will be cheaper to run 50 AI content channels then 1 with real content (A person writes the script, films the video, edits it and uploads). What this means is that people will not be able to afford to do things the "old fashioned way" and instead will be forced into making AI videos to compete. Now, you might think the point I'm making is "Oh no, our youtube jobs will be gone". But no, IT IS SO MUCH WORSE THAN THAT. What this means is that, over time less and less human made things will be on the internet. It may get to the point where no company will even allow human made content. The internet was supposed to help connect people across the world, and give them access to the same information that they would find in a public library. Now we are watching that dream of a public library be torn down and turned into a shopping mall. But you can help. You say that you have access to information that they are taking illegally ? Leak it. Especially the sensitive data. As we know from global warming, people won't act unless it affects them directly. Leak it, and force them to explain why they have this data. I used to work at Amazon. The medical team was absolutely useless and it was clear they were there to help the company, not us. We use to joke that the medical teams cure for everything was to give you a biofreeze pack and send you on your way. One of the times I had a possible injury on my foot, I went to ask for some advice on what I should do to help it. I wasn't trying to make it a big deal or even make it an issue, but when I told the medical employee that I was having foot pain, he didn't even let me finish explaining what I wanted to do or even the full issue, he told me that I had to go tell my supervisor first so he can write up a report before Amazon can be held responsible and assist me. Bro, I was just trying to get your opinion on if icing it will help. I wish I had the spine I have now, I would have stopped him mid sentence and told him to listen up and stop being a dick for just a second.

Any youtuber that wants to charge money for their content to be shown to AI programs is just another money grubbing sellout. Plenty of their human audience can learn things from their videos that can be turned into a way to make money, but you don't see them charging their audience. What's happening is they see a company with money is having an AI program watch the content to learn things that can be turned into a way to make money (just like people can for free) and they see an easy way to make another buck. They won't charge their audience to learn from them, but they sure as hell will charge a company for the exact same thing just because the company has money already and the youtuber wants a piece of it. It's just greedy hustling. Either charge EVERYONE or charge no one. It's not like the AI is uploading the youtuber's content or recreating it. It's only watching and learning in order to become more "intelligent".

I had a couple of videos on the list of channels scraped for AI data. It takes a lot of time, effort, and costs to put videos together. I’ve given permission in the past to teachers and other educators to use my training content for free… but when it comes to companies with billions and billions of dollars at their disposal and not even acknowledging where they got the data from… Yeah, it would be nice to be compensated for that.

I heard this from twitter so take this with a grain of salt, but the reason Tenacious D probably got their tour canceled isn't them saying they're gonna stop, but nearly every venue getting bombarded with complaints and threats, and them cancelling. The joke was in bad taste, but not nearly as bad as some other jokes I've heard that no one blinked at. If this was said a year from now(or even just a month from now), there probably wouldn't be anyone that cared.

I currently work for a subcontracting company that works for meta, and the illegal/unethical scrapping of data does not at all come as a shock to me. I have read things that are more than likely incredibly sensitive data, and they come from all parts of the internet (although a lot of it comes from Facebook and Instagram). I'm confident all of the major AI players subcontract the unethical data scrapping to specifically avoid any and all liability in training their AI. There needs to be laws and regulation in this field ASAP.

If this happens, it will be cheaper to run 50 AI content channels then 1 with real content (A person writes the script, films the video, edits it and uploads).
What this means is that people will not be able to afford to do things the "old fashioned way" and instead will be forced into making AI videos to compete.

I used to work at Amazon. The medical team was absolutely useless and it was clear they were there to help the company, not us.
We use to joke that the medical teams cure for everything was to give you a biofreeze pack and send you on your way.
One of the times I had a possible injury on my foot, I went to ask for some advice on what I should do to help it. I wasn't trying to make it a big deal or even make it an issue, but when I told the medical employee that I was having foot pain, he didn't even let me finish explaining what I wanted to do or even the full issue, he told me that I had to go tell my supervisor first so he can write up a report before Amazon can be held responsible and assist me. Any youtuber that wants to charge money for their content to be shown to AI programs is just another money grubbing sellout. Plenty of their human audience can learn things from their videos that can be turned into a way to make money, but you don't see them charging their audience. What's happening is they see a company with money is having an AI program watch the content to learn things that can be turned into a way to make money (just like people can for free) and they see an easy way to make another buck. They won't charge their audience to learn from them, but they sure as hell will charge a company for the exact same thing just because the company has money already and the youtuber wants a piece of it. It's just greedy hustling. Either charge EVERYONE or charge no one. It's not like the AI is uploading the youtuber's content or recreating it. It's only watching and learning in order to become more "intelligent".

As a German Historian for the IFZ in Munich (most respected Historical Institution regarding Contemporary European and German History) i just have to once again say (especially to Americans): None of your Politicians, not even Trump are remotely close to Hitler nor to actual Fasciam or National Socialism.
All you, whether Conservative or Liberal or whatever do by comparing your "least liked" Politician in your Country is make Hitler appear far more harmless and democratic than what he actually was.
Every single Time i see any US Pundit, Politician or Journalist of either Political Party compare anyone to Hitler all i can do is cringe and just think "Weird how even the Harvard etc. Ivy League educated Politicians, Journalists and "Intellectuals" act just as uneducated as the Political Voters they like to make fun of for being uneducated.
Point being:
Be smart, before you compare anyone to Hitler (or even Stalin or other authoritarian Political Dictators of the Past) please first learn and educate yourself on them.
If Trump had ran against Hitler in the 1930s he would have been considered to be a "Centrist Conformist" compared to Hitler.
But hey, Americans love to exaggerate and then are surprised that they are so insanely divided.

As an artist, we've been screaming about it for so long. No one ever came to ask us, can we use your work, when they used our art to train their AI. Now they use our work to make profits.
As a union carpenter and grandson to a former teamster steward, seeing the teamster union's leadership showing up at an RNC event to speak surprises me. The republicans have always pushed anti-union legislation like the diabolical and manipulative right to work garbage as well as fighting against prevailing wage. In places where politicians enacted Right to Work laws and decimated prevailing wage, we see the lowest worker wages, lowest quality of life and greatest economic discrepancies and all the criminal and economic blowback thay comes from socioeconomic turmoil.
But I think the teamster leadership made the right call showing up at the RNC. Because that couldn't been a DNC event, and he'd have said the same things we just heard. My union is the same: we'll back whoever supports unions and we have numerous Davis-Bacon Republicans across the country we've supported alongside Democrat candidates one district over. New York is a great example of this where it's a mixed bag. So showing up NOW in the space where he KNEW all eyes were watching was probably the BEST time to speak openly and get the word out. I hate to say it, but McCarron might need to take a stage as well and bolster the Union Wave we're going to be seeing soon.

Is it bad I wasn't even aware there was a regulatory committee that was supposed to help control the incoming donations and party spending? Every election for the last couple of decades seem to have insane amounts of spending or someone getting caught doing something with funds, never seemed like there were guidelines or rules. Not that every candidate will always follow rules/laws.

I had a couple of videos on the list of channels scraped for AI data. It takes a lot of time, effort, and costs to put videos together. I’ve given permission in the past to teachers and other educators to use my training content for free… but when it comes to companies with billions and billions of dollars at their disposal and not even acknowledging where they got the data from… Yeah, it would be nice to be compensated for that.
Hey Phil!! LOVE your show. You should talk about the March on the RNC movement that happened. There were a bunch of people and a bunch of organizations and unions that showed up for the march. It was a huge community moment for Milwaukee. I feel like no one is talking about the fact that the RNC happened in Milwaukee. Not only has Trump called the city horrible, it is incredibly segregated with almost no support from the local and national governments.

For the first story, I think the core issue is pretty apparent here: It's that companies are abdicating responsibility for using the data simply because they didn't collect it, yet knowing full well what's contained within. Imagine doing that for anything else: "Oh, yeah, this thing I'm not supposed to use? Yeah, not my problem because someone else collected it and gave it to me. Go get them, but uh, I'm gonna keep using this thing I'm not supposed to use - thanks!"
