Tig weld with super missile rod. Preheat to 500*. Start welding and don’t stop, weld all the way around. The tube will move and follow the heat around to where it was at the start. Wrap in a blanket after welding to let cool slowly and it won’t crack.
solid advice, when welding axle tubes (mild steel) to the center section (cast iron) you really wanna weld it, then immediately douce it with water. that loads the welds up with stress.. so when you hit your first pothole the welds will crack, but those cracks will hold the center section to the tubes since they dont crack perfectly straight. its simple science my dudes. also, another good tip from this video is dont use nickle to bond those dissimilar metals. Use a high carbon steel MIG set way too cold.. its beautiful. It will hold since they will probably never put enough power through that rear end to overcome the OEM plug welds and spin the tubes. so as long as they didnt dogleg the shit out of the diff all will be good.
I used that Axle bushing tool on my Mach rear and didnt catch the bur and stripped the nut and bolt (cross threaded) and had to replace to finish the job. Those get hot AF with all that pressure also!!!
To keep car stable you could get 2 long tube Jack stands to keep pressure on front what I did just because I worry about car falling off. Same stands they use in muffler shop.
I’m sorry Cooling your welds down while hot like that is a REALLY BAD IDEA. You would be better off welding preheating the axle and tube slightly- maybe 150 degrees and welding a 1.5” on one side and flipping to the direct opposite side of one axle tube at a time until it’s complete. Anyone with basic knowledge of metallurgy and welding would tell you the same.
I just did the strange 35 spline axle swap, I put the Hy Tuff’s in. I don’t know if you have researched it any but the Strange Axle studs are prone to bending/twisting and they actually only rate them to 600 hp. I went ahead and swapped mine out for ARP studs before I even put them in the car. We welded my tubes up without a jig also, worked fine and it’s been good for 4 years. I have relocated uppers also and the car launches so nice... your going to love it.
@@BREW2LFOXBODY not to be a hater but I don’t think your gunna like those solid bushing but from a price stand point and durability I understand why you got them. I’d like to see what your car makes when you hitting a dyno?
Hey bubba, cars looking good and gona hook even better, I got excited when I saw them rotors for the front. Hope everythings good with ya, and yours....

nice, nice, nice stuff Brew, TeamZs suspension is badass dude! double adjustable sweetess!!! if you ever put a cage in that car, TeamZ cages are sweet too. when you cool your welds like that they harden and can become brittle. easy way yo set your pinion angle, disconnect one upper control arm, set your angle with the one thats connected, then adjust and install the disconnected arm. way easier than trying to adjust both at the same time. if you get a solid brand diff cover for your 8.8, thier powder coat closely matches TeamZs😁
@Chris K what you want me to say? I get questioned on this topic all the time. I just don’t care for a 5 lug swap other than wheel options and all my wheels are 4 lug already. So it’s pointless for me to swap then have to go buy more wheels.
When you apply pressure in a drag race scene, when car hooks hard over and over it will cause the center section to break loose from the tubes and kick it up into floor busting alot of stuff
If your going to do it you do it right. Like most of us we spiral out of control just like he said budget build went out the window with suspension parts. What’s going to happen next year when he builds dart block on 25psi.

Center is not cast iron its cast steel
@@blueblood76 my entire post was a joke dude, i basically gave the worst advice i could.
I have welded axle tubes up on 8.8 but I tig welded with 309 wire seemed to work really good and didn’t crack!!
Putting water on it while it’s hot will make it dog leg even more..
Nate has some sunburned hand!😂
Looks nice underneath. I did same thing. Disassemble and paint everything.
Building a beast brother!
I changed out rear ends on my mustang in my driveway on back with a single jack in 100° florida sun with no help. It wasnt fun.
I feel ya brother... 🔥🥵

i don't know any other way to weld axle tubes...looks like the "right way" to me.
The hammered finish looks great.

Welding gloves? What welding gloves?
Calypso is coming along, looking good can’t wait to see how it handles!👍🏽
Whats the benefit of welding the axle tubes?
Keep them from spinning under stress
Man what a nice setup !!
I’m sorry

While I won’t argue with you on the fact that cooling welds like that is a bad idea.... but honestly a few good tacks would hold it.
Nice! Hope you did yours the right way
Looks serious! Sooo looking forward to seeing this run in TN!
I just hope the motor and trans last that long 😆
@@BREW2LFOXBODY dont kid yourself it will
Me too!
That's the exact same set up I want for my rear!!
What are you using for paint under the car. I need to do that to mine
Satin black and SEM undercoating
That thing should hook up even on a dirt road!
I hope so
Have any rear steer without a pan hard bar?
But still no 5 lugs😂😂😂😂😂😂. I know it’s not necessary, but lol.
I would have to buy all new wheels... 😳
@@BREW2LFOXBODY your going to anyways!........eventually 😂. (I do understand the convenience of interchangeability, just giving you crap)

Will do

Looks Great under there
Just need to chop the front end off and add a tubular front and you are good to go. I have the same set up for now lol.
That’s probably coming 👍
No rear sway bar mount on those lowers?
Not on these.
Good stuff bro💪🏾💪🏾. It is crazy clean under the Calypso.
I ended up getting the powerstop Z26 Street Warrior fronts! Lots of bute!
Maybe these will help some
love how you were able to do a good cleaning under there, I’ve been putting that off on mine for too long, looking good man
Why would anyone hate on the BMR toque box kit looks nice!

I woke my wife up at midnight to help me when I was trying to wrestle my rearend back under the car by myself lol.
So with the BMR kit you don't have to do anything inside the car? All bolted in underneath?
Hey now. We all need a Jo Nate. Shot in the dark on spelling. Just sounding good. Sonnnnn!!! Gonna get down and dirty for sure with this setup. 👍👍👍🔥
Jonate is the man!
Dropping some dolla bills for that delivery. Nice!
It was pricey for sure
He said that’s not the right way to do it, lol, what is the correct way??
Take it apart and use an alignment bar and dies to guarantee no issues.
Just an FYI sweet video dude

Funny how often you hear “ this is not how you do it”!
Lol I’m obligated to tell people 👀😆
are you gonna do a anti roll bar or axle tube braces like UPR, racecraft inc, or tigvision fabrication sells, i ran them on mine, cheap insurance.
I’d be tempted to weld in the upper braces where the bolt to the subframe.
Sounds like you need to turn your wire feed speed up.
We did. It was burning in a lot better
Can't wait to see how it hooks up when you are done . What size tires are you going to run in the back ?
