Thanks man dear God I wish all vids were straight to the point and articulate like this. No nonsense and calm thanks for sharing. My sons latch broke at the release after continual trouble with the passenger side...confirmed my suspicions -cable stretch on the main cable after wear/corrosion of the latch
My release broke and i pulled the pulley with pliers and it's loose now and my hood is closed shut

In this case, the problem is that the hood won't pop at all with the lever on left bottom at the driver? Or it does pop but then the lever at the middle of the hood is stuck? Because I have the second problem. 🤔
Either way if you follow the video instructions….it should still open

@@BimmaJoc So my problem was indeed different (simpler). The pull wires / latches were fine. My only problem was that the lever in the middle of the hood, which you use to open it after unlocking from the driver side, was completely stuck. I wasn't able to get in there myself even after spraying it a bit with WD-40 (also I wasn't sure if I didn't have the problem described in this video) so I took it to the garage and they were able to open it after some struggle. Once opened, it just needed some more oil + moving it up and down for a while and it's fine now. So just take it as a reminder, that mechanism also needs to be oiled once in a while.
I took the crumbling plastic by hood release 1999 bmw 528i.. I got to the frayed broke cable but pulled on it with pliers.. and nothing.. took grill out.. pulled on top wire.. nothing.. working on it for 2 days.. nothing..
also cut holes with a pocket knife through fan housing to get to drivers side latch under hood, as well as wheel well and many other things , pulling on the cable does nothing
@@tylervision707maul did you ever get yours over because it sounds like you’re having the same situation I am I’ve went through the wheel well I’ve pulled on the cables etc. and they still just will not pop up. The interior latch was very resistant to begin with before it seized up. The first time I went through the wheel well to open the latches worked., I didn’t know to oil it at that point but it continued working for a couple times, and then it has seized up again
I’m currently experiencing this issue, went through the wheel well, pulled on the cables, nothing. Took apart the pull handle in the interior, nothing. Any other alternatives?? One of the cables has some slack, assuming it’s the passenger side like you suggested. Help😩
you can use something to wedge the driver side enough to grab that cable... once you get the cable use a metal coat hanger, wrap around the passenger cable and then wrap that coat hanger around a screw driver or something to give u pulling leverage. give it a yank and the hood will open ask me how i know... after watching countless videos and giving up 10+ times in my garage lol
Thats exactly what i did with my previous bmw....i was going to mention that on this video but then I realized how unsafe it was and not the best thing to show how to do on my channel....the thing about the way you mentioned....whatever your wedging can slip and fall while you are trying to reach the cable then your arm can be at risk ....i even made a video about that a couple years ago ...and deleted it because of safety....i try my best to stick with what the book says to do...that has all the correct answers
@@BimmaJoc I have removed my wheel well liner I have pulled on both of the cables even very hard and it’s still not even budging, the latch had been very hard to pull prior to when it seized up and going through the wheel, well worked the first time this happened, I did not know to oil the latches or I would have done that while they were open, it has worked several times since then but now it has seized up again, and it will not even loosen with the cable underneath the wheel well. As I’m holding onto the junction box, I can feel the latch itself from the inside is working, but the latches themselves will not release. Is there any other safe alternative or way to get this hood open?
I thought I had an alignment issue with mine especially after watching videos on here , after some messing around under the bonnet (UK👍) I found that the catch on drivers side (RH druve) wasn't working Correctly so the bonnet wasn't closing down on that side , I've greased it up but think it's just too far gone, are they easy to replace? Its not the mechanics the hood latches wear out over time …especially from weather …car washing and not clean with wd40 then lubing them with white lithium grease

Seriously screw BMW, they make beautiful cars but are absurdly over complicated and you have shit like this happen and all us owners are chumps, why is something like this allowed to even happen on a $50k+ car. I had an E92 for two years and spend an insane amount of money fixing issues that never should have been there in the first place. Although I kinda respect BMW for ripping off clueless rich people, if you buy one of these cars new you kinda deserve it the regular trips to the dealership you’ll have to make. Unless you have the value of the car saved away just for maintenance costs, stay away. I think BMW will be successful in their crusade against user repairs in the future and fixing their self-fabricated problems like this one will become a crime. Hey German engineering amirite?
This helped me out thanx man but that pointy finger omg I’m dead 😂

Glad someone said it 😂

Use white lithium grease for preventative maintenance on the new ones
Thank you sir. It is hard to know what you're looking for when your hood is locked shut so I appreciate the simple but super helpful vid.
That finger is on point...🤣
😆

Thank you soo much, you don't even know the headache and stress you saved me from.
thank you for making this possible for the ordinary guy.
Thank you this helped a lot.
Typical german over engineering. every car i've ever worked on uses just one latch and cable and ofc the germans need TWO!!!
You helped me out of trouble, than you so so much, God bless you.
So helpful, but if i break the hood button thing can i still get it open??
i want to watch more of your videos just for the pointer. I need one of these!!
Thank you! Clear to the point!
Just wish it weren’t 20f out!
That pointer is everything. I want one now. You should sell them. 😆
Thank you! I try my best to avoid the dealer 😬
Worked like a charm!

Thanks ..saved me a headache
I swear the e60s and e9x are notorious for this 😅😅😅
Both my e60s had this issue and now my e92 has this issue
Right…chinese latches ….they get corroded I believe from weather or always washing your car lol
My passenger side lock is jammed. Do you just pull on the driver side black wire?
So the passenger side wire …yes comes from the driver side and is the longest wire
Is it same on bmw f10?
Should be yes

Take the wheel off on the passenger side instead and you should be able to reach the cable up pass the reservoir tank
Assuming you took off the plastic splash guards
Had me dead when the pointer came out ahhahaha
I couldn’t stop laughing Bc of the pointy finger but thanks for the advice
Will this work with f10?
Ofcourse
Thanks for the info man!!!!!! I was able to fix it
