Council Tool makes great products. Some years ago I visited their plant in Lake Waccamaw, NC. A family opened business (Jack Council gave me a tour). I saw their many forges in operation and they are dedicated to quality. Firefighters use their products and I’m glad to see them get into camping tools. Good video, and great camp ax. I love the sheath.
You mentioned the Boy Scouts a couple of times in this video. It takes a lot of work to turn boys into men, and good men into better men! I have been working on myself for many, many years. Not ready to give up yet. As a Scout Master, I can plan incredible camps and activities for my boys and they will come home from camp and say that the funnest and most memorable activity was chopping wood. Boys love to chop and then burn wood. It is hard to teach the boys good axe skills because they just want to swing the axe like they are aiming for the upper bleachers in center field. Sometimes it is a miracle that they all come home alive. I thank God each time we return home safely. I like this axe and like your review. I ordered Council tools Hudson Bay Camp Axe (2.25 lb head) for my boys to use and am retiring the old 3.5lb hardwood store axe with the broken handle and chipped bit. Not too expensive at $50. I am looking at the Council Tools Woodcraft line for myself and your video was helpful in moving me closer to purchasing this premium axe.
Looks great, I have one of the original Woodcraft axes from Council Tool and it's fantastic for camping. Looks like a lot of good features and possibilities from that hatchet.
They did, in exchange for the several hours it takes to make and produce a testing and demo video. And, yes, it's an excellent little axe. And, as for price, it is less than most comparable European axes and made in the USA by American craftsmen.
@@SurvivalOnPurpose I must admit. You got a great deal. I would love for them to send me such a beautiful little axe. The 22 inch is definitely going in my collection. You have a point. That’s exactly why I keep buying their products. Made in America by Americans for Americans. It’s a beautiful thing. F
Have a look at the Krumpholz axes and hatchets, hand forged in Germany, with ash or hickory handles. Their models go in several weights and handle length, for a price starting at € 30,-- up to € 80,--. OK, you have to add shipping. Don't want to take the labour from any american worker, but there is more in Europe than Grandfors Bruks. Stay safe everybody, and stay blessed.
I consider axes with the anvil design at the back of their heads very useful, they double as a hammer, coupled with a west german army e_tool, the one with a pick and you get yourself a veritable tool system.
Usually size, and shape of the eye. Hawks are normally wider in the eye, for a rounder handle. That way the handle can be removed and replaced easily, with no wedge. Axes are hung with a wedge for a permanent handle. Axes are made to split, and chop. Hawks are lighter duty, multi purpose tools that can be used for just about anything including light splitting/chopping. You can take the head off the hawk and use like a hand tool.
Bryan, Thanks for an early morning axcellant video. I always seek out your "Regular Guy" videos each week. I asked you to toss the ax and said ouch when the ax head moved. Thanks again...Abe Azar
I've been waiting for a follow-up on this Camp axe. I was given a black raven ax for Boy Scouts by my grandfather and I've always wanted to match it with a good Hatchet\ Camp axe. I was with Troop 678 Eagle Scouts 15 years ago, Troop leader for 2 years and assistant for 4 years. Of 56 kids!! And, my daughter which is a Daisy for Girl Scouts, is showing more attention towards the Boy Scout ways and I want to pass her down let's say good products for her endeavors and camps. So let's see a sequel. In a Boy Scout environment.
Yes so am I. I finished out an eagle scout 15 years ago, and I ran the original design of the genuine norlund axe. Which I still have to this day! I took the original 21 inch handle off it. Because it has a tendency to come loose with heavy splitting, And mine does not have the cheeks that, that axe head has to secure it better to the haft. And mine is two ounces heavier. It's an awesome axe!! But I'd like to upgrade and pass the the old version on. To a new group of Explorer Scouts. Troop 678 a branch off of 609 ( too many kids involved in Scouts) Minnesota. I will probably donate this to many point Scout camp, Itasca State Fores.
I own two CT axes good quality tools. I haven't figured out what my Velvicut Double Bit Saddle Axe is really for but it looks sweet. I think this carver is a little pricey but I'll probably end up with it. For me, axes are a sickness!
Is that a dog wood your shopping? I have got some a humongous pine stumps in my yard, you can have one of them, they're really nice the tree was 104 years old before it fell each stump ways around 600 lb.
Started this vid and said to myself, "hmmmm, that looks like something 'ol Craig Roost has gotten ahold of".... Before you ever even mentioned his name. Nice axe. Thanks for sharing!!
Great video. I have the CT Boys Axe (28" and 24") and really dig the lighter weight option for when I head into the forest. This new option from Council Tools looks great, and I'm looking forward to getting my hands on one. I have the Fiskars X7 hatchet, which I like, but see this as a better hatchet/axe option.
Yeah, well the edge on mine rolled and chipped the first time I used it. Chopped a piece of Douglas Fir 2x4 and a 1x4 slat of Teak. The edge took damage and that is unacceptable. Tried 4 times to contact Council by phone and email, no response. Sent an email to Wiseman Trading (the distributor) 8 days ago and no response. I bought this instead of a Gransfors Bruk because it is made in America and I'm regretting the decision.

That's a nice axe. I believe if the handle is 18in. or in that area they are called a "Boys Axe". what I liked most was the handle. With a little reprofiling of the edge it's a VERY capable wood processor, and the price is right.
