Wade... All I can say is "excellent job ". Very informative. I am definitely recommending your channel. My opinion... One of the best.
Thank you Bernie I appreciate those kind words bud!
Awsome work. Got one to. I live 50km from Gränsfors, have been there 4-5 times to watch the forging of the axes.
That's awesome, it must be nice to be able to check that out! Thanks for watching👍
My Uncle, a Special Forces Viet Nam Vet always said: "You take care of your tools/weapons and they will take care of you". I can see that is what You do.
Excellent video. More folks should follow Your example. Thank You.
Thanks for the comment and personal experience my friend!👊
Wood ….Steel and Leather!!!

For a minute, at the start, I thought I was watching Die Hard. ; )
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That was very nice of Bruce Willis to review this axe lol. In all seriousness though, great video and I have this axe that my wife got me for Fathers Day. Insane how good it really is.
😂😂😂Enjoy that axe my friend! Lol
Exquisite. For me one of the most enjoyable parts of owning these beautiful axes is maintaining them after use. Thanks for the video mate.
My pleasure buddy, thanks for your support👍
Love my small forest axe, take it with me on my adv bike and my family camping/hunting trips.
Oh it’s a classic for sure!
Very helpful. I was using my sharpening stone improperly. Thanks!
I’m so glad it was helpful, I appreciate your feedback!👍

Thanks buddy!
I live in san diego and theres not much camping or wood out here to chopdown but i still love watching videos like these.
Thanks for watching, I appreciate the feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed it👍
Good tools are beautiful things. Nice to see you look after them.
Thanks for watching, it's appreciated👍
A thoroughly enjoyable tutorial! That’s a good tip about warming the wood before the application of wax. I’m going to try that. Thank you!
Thank you for watching and for the kind words!👍
Very well done, sir! 🪓
Thank you kindly!👍
Great job explaining everything in detail. I just purchased this axe today and all the recommended accessories. You are an excellent teacher sir.
Thanks very much I appreciate you watching and for the kind comment. Enjoy that axe my friend!👍
Perhaps worth mentioning the 'burr' concept when sharpening - creating a burr on one side, which tells you you've reached the edge and flipping to the other side to flip the burr back, then step down to a finer grit, etc. Most people never create a burr and hence don't get a sharp edge!
Tanks for watching my friend , perhaps a more in depth explanation could have been given. Much appreciated👍
I just ordered a small forest axe earlier today. Thank you for posting this video. I will be coming back to it as I maintain my new axe. Best wishes.
Hope you enjoy it! Its a fine axe, worth the money, absolutely! thanks for watching and for the feedback!
Excellent care of a trusty tool Wade, well done 👌🏻
Thanks bro, just got back from 3 days in Algonquin swinging that same axe. A trusted tool as you say! Thanks for the comment🤙
Over the I've found out that my best friend for keeping my bushcraft knife, my Silky saws and my various axes in tip top condition is WD-40. It helps the blade glide through wood and removes every gunk with ease.
That’s a great tip. Those small cans would be easy to pack!
I love my small forest axe.
Maybe the best pack axe out there!👍
Nice video. Quality steel.
Thanks very much!
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks very much, I appreciate the comment!
The before and after on that axe is incredible! Great, informative video, and amazing work on that axe. Thanks for sharing it with us. Really good stuff.
Thanks a lot my friend👊
I've had the same comment made to me about how clean my tools look and your right good maintenance is key !. A lot of this gear is expensive and i want it to last a long time ! Thanks for sharing Wade ( :
You said it Wayne it's well worth looking after for sure!
I lost the same rivet in the same spot on my Scandinavian forest axe sheath. I’ve since replaced it twice more with pop rivets.
So far this repair is holding up👍
Thanks Wade for the quick tips.
Much appreciated my friend!👍
Thank you, that was very well done and informative. Keep up the good work!

Great info. Man if I was a small forest axe, I'd want to live in your shed....
🤣🤣🤣🤣That's funny! Thanks for watching!👍
Good stuff Wade, I'm fanatical about maintaining my kit, my wife just doesn't understand lol. I use the wax on my axe handle to, works great, helps with the grip to. Thanks for sharing, take care 👍
Thanks for watching buddy!👊
Hi Wade - New subscriber from MN. I like your presentation. I’ve got several GB axes and mauls. It’s a fun hobby just maintaining those things. Thanks for the video and look forward to more in the future. Andy
Andy thanks for stopping by brother, I appreciate it. Talk to you later👍
Great job, Wade! Very informative, relaxing video. I just got my first tomahawk and the edge might as well have been a hammer. I’m learning to sharpen it good.
Thanks for stopping by James. Those CRKT hawks are pretty decent once you refine the edge. Perfect for your enviroment where you don't process tons of firewood. Take care man✌️
Excellent video Wade. What a beautiful axe.
Thank you my friend!👊🍁
Hello neighbour.
Nice video
Love Algonquin park
Thanks neighbour, it's a very special place for sure! ✌️

Always look after your tools, I have people that don’t look after them and go aw well it’s fine.
“I’ll buy new ones”
I have had the same set of carving knives and chisels since I was at college 9 years ago and due to looking after them and sharping them etc they look brand new!
Great video once again wade!
But no coffee 😥
Much love from 🏴
You're absolutely right my friend, I have some tools going on 30 years now and still going strong. It's a good thing! Take care and thanks for watching!
Great content Wade, thank you for sharing, cheers
Thanks so much for watching, I sincerely appreciate you!

Great video 👍
Thanks very much!👍
Beautiful axe and awesome job. Im sorry to say that i cant afford the Gransfors Bruk axe but i am getting a husqvarna carpenter axe and will definitely use these tips on it
Husqvarna make s fine axe, I own a couple. The carpenters axe looks like a winner. Enjoy my friend!
I love my little axe, great video my friend
Thanks Steve! 👊🍻
Excellent. I will be watching this video after work. I need to learn axe care.
Hey buddy thanks and have a great weekend!👊
great video!
Thanks for the visit👍
Great idea to use polishing compound to remove rust, i usually use steel wool and gun oil but that seemed to work way better!
Steel wool and gun oil would definately work too, use what you have buddy.👍 Take care ,stay safe!
Great useful video brother! That’s a really great axe!🤘🏼
Thanks bro, it's a keeper for sure!👊
Looking good brother thanks for showing ill have to get me one of them sharpening pucks
Thanks man, yup it does a nice job!
Great job! Love it! Beautiful job. I'm still building up my axe arsenal and really enjoying contrasting all the designs and strengths and weaknesses of the different brands and styles. I love the cutting abilities of the Gransfors and the design of the head and the handles. I'm a little let down on the quality of the handles from the grain orientation to the sap/heartwood mixing and the sheaths/guards are very minimal quality. Those last two things I believe should be the best in the world because they are asking the best price and are supposed to be the best by many accounts. Still at the top of my list dont get me wrong, but other axe manufacturers have much better sheaths.
I agree Stan, they certainly could improve their sheaths. There is so much variety out there, you're right it's an enjoyable pastime. Take care buddy, thanks for watching!👍
Nice work! Thanks for sharing, take care bud..
You too, have a great weekend buddy!
Really liking your videos. Good job.
Thank you very much, I appreciate the feedback! Take care!
Great video Wade.
Thanks buddy!👊
Great job Wade, thanks. For cleaning my blades up I like to use a fine Garryson abrasive block, saw them on a Zed outdoors video with Ben Orford. Thanks as ever for sharing buddy 👍☺️
Hey Mike. I remember seeing Ben use them, kind of like an eraser right? Looks really good. Take care bud👊
@@Woodswalker1965 Yep, that's them, especially useful if you pack your damp knife away and forget about it for two weeks, not that I know about such things 🙄
This is a great video! thank you very much.
You're very welcome! 👍
10:20 i rub wax onto the leather roughly and then spread it out evenly using a cloth and some olive oil. Works great.
Interesting use of the olive oil! Good tip👍
@@Woodswalker1965 thanks! I used it on an old leather sheath of a buck knife my uncle found in an abandoned boat his friend bought. Made it look brand new with that trick.
Great video mate
Thank you my friend!👊
Great video Wade 10/10
Thanks very much my friend 👊🌲🔥!
Well explained!
I appreciate the comment, thank you!
thank you for sharing your plethora of knowledge
one thing i have not come across as yet is how to sharpen knives saws axes and other bladed bushcraft tools without store bought sharpening stones readily available for purchase,
thereby i was wondering if it would be possible for you to make a dedicated video on alternative ways to sharpen bushcraft bladed tools in the not so distant future using natural materials found in nature...??
Great suggestion! Possibly in the future but any smooth flat stone will work👍
Thank's for the maintenance tips! Maintenant je dois travaillé sur ma paresse pour les mettre en application 😂, merci Wade
Oui nous avons tous besoin de motivation haha😀
Beautiful job 👍🏻🇨🇦
Thank you bud! 👍
Cool Video 👍
Thank U for the Info and the Links 👍
Thank you very much my friend!👍
I have done very same today. To my hultafors axe and two of my bark river knives. Great job, keep it up 🔪✨
Ps I use my own made oil for everything. It’s a mixture of 80% filtered oil from lamb fat and %20 beeswax. Works great for leather, wood, and metal. Gives a beautiful darker tone to wood and leather.
Excellent way to spend a bit of time isn't it!? That's cool to have your own mixture of conditioning oil for your tools, well done!👍
Woodswalker 1965 Sure it is. Thanks a lot and merry Christmas in advance. 🎄✨
Great job Wade.... I'm glad you got back OK. I'm a huge fan of Autosol. I use it on my knives as well as axes. It seems a lot cheaper over here that Tormek, and does pretty much the same job. Thanks for taking the time mate :) Have a great weekend, all the best, Mark :)
Good morning Mark! Your tools are always in top shape for sure, now I know why!👊 Take care buddy and have a good weekend. I hope you get your camera back soon.🌲👊
Nicely done. Inspired me to go out in the cold and get my Eastwing out of the truck.
Nice! Perfect Friday night ! 👍
I’m good about doing this during the preparation phase for a trip, but not so good on the post trip maintenance.👍
It's all good, pre trip or post trip but it's always good to touch things up my friend! Take care and thanks for watching!👊🌲🍁
awesome buddy ,
Thanks man, much appreciated!👊
Great tips nice video 👍
Thanks for watching buddy!👍
Thanks good info !
Thanks buddy I appreciate you watching!
Brilliant
Thank you my friend!👊
Very good 👍
I often use boiled linseed oil on mine after I clean em up
BLO is awesome to use as well. I actually use both but this time went with the paste. Thanks for watching bud!
I use BLO as well. Often I will finish with beeswax too. The stickiness of beeswax makes for a nice grip
@@cb7172 Yes it good policy to use both. Thanks for watching!
I just bought 2 of there Swedish forest axe's man they are amazing.
Yes the Scandinavian Forest Axe is awesome! I have one as well. Enjoy my friend👍
@@Woodswalker1965 if you could only chose one which you choose? My thinking is Scandinavian forest Axe offers the most power for just a little more weight. Thoughts?
Yes, if I could only have one it would be the Scandi Axe. More capable while being only slightly heavier. Good choice💪
I use autosol on mine as well wade. I agree mate, you gotta take care of your kit. Nice axe as well. Love your hair style as well wade. I wonder why. 😉👍
Seems we like our blades and our heads shiny! 🤣🤣🤣 Take care Shane!👍
Woodswalker 1965 😂😂😂I like that
In Boy Scouts, we learned to pound wooden stakes in ground to make a temporary vice. Then sharpen axe with blade held firmly. I just use my vice. Expect to have more uniform edge. You did a great job, but maybe someone else might do better with vise.
Thanks for the input my friend that's a good tip. For a major sharpening job or if I'm going to reprofile an edge I'll use my vice as well. Thanks for watching✌️
Very helpful Wade. Its more fun watching you doing this than doing it by myself. Last time i was cutting myself badly lol. Yeah, in my case a dull blade seems to be safer... just kidding. Thanks for the input, this blade-maintanance-set seems to be a cool all-in-one-option. And this axe is a real beauty imo. 8Ksubs soon my friend
Hey buddy, I've cut myself badly too sharpening knives and axes it's not a good thing for sure.😉 Live and learn haha! Seems like 8k is taking forever haha. Thanks a lot for the encouragement👊
Here you are. 8000. Congratulations Wade!!! I ll drink a cold beer right now to salute you!
@@schnarutdelgnarff8135 Thanks Chris that's awesome, hmmm I think I'll join you brother🍻
thanks for the video sir.. new sub!
You’re welcome, I appreciate your support!
nice job...I use a homemade mixture of beeswax and coconut oil on the sheath and the handle, finish with a rub of hot beeswax ...
Hey Sean thanks for stopping by. Yup that totally works, I have a few homemade concoctions that do the trick as well.👊
Nice lookin' axe there Wade! Great tutorial!
Thanks Kevin.... by the way I bought a canoe woohoo!😀
@@Woodswalker1965 Way to go! I would ask what make and model but I suspect there is a video about it in the future! I can't wait! :)

Looks good Wade👍
Here’s another quick tip for getting rid of that spruce gum. Margarine, it breaks it down almost immediately.
See you on the next one.
That's a new one, how about peanut butter?😀 Thanks buddy!
Woodswalker 1965 that would be NO! Peanut butter does not work 😂
@@OpenAirOutdoors Haha ok duly noted Sir!🤣
Nice.
Thanks very much!👊
@@Woodswalker1965 👊
hello there! I was surprised at how butter works for taking sap off of your blades, instant neutralization. lol
That's a cool tip about butter thanks man!👊🌲🔥
Hey wade!! Miss you boss, I had a question for ya :) so I just got most small forest axe in today and the wood was dry so I put some boiled linseed oil and it’s looking nice. But I had a question on what kind of wax you use and what are some other alternatives to apply to your sheath other than the cream you use? What are some good things to use to take care of the leather and metal head?
Hey buddy, congrats on the SFA! Any leather cream will work. you can also melt some beeswax in with some mineral oil for a good wax that can be used on wood, metal and steel. I did a video here showing the process with a few different products. Take care👍 ruclips.net/video/Ehh-VJZa-hU/видео.html

Hey buddy I'm fine thanks hope you're doing great!👊
Congrats on the SFA they are a beauty! Plain old beeswax will work fine on the wood. Any leather cream will work as well. A mixture of mineral oil and melted beeswax will work on the wood leather and steel actually. About 50/50 I would say.
I did a vid a while back here. ruclips.net/video/Ehh-VJZa-hU/видео.html
Thanks for staying in touch buddy!
Great video. Do you recommend applying chromium oxide stripping paste to your strop paddle before stroping? Is this something you need to do? I just bought this axe as my first axe
Thanks very much for watching and you have made a wise purchase my friend.👍 I use stropping compound on my strops, nothing too fancy or exotic. A fine and extra fine seems to work well for me although I'm sure some of the pastes and sprays will do a "better" job. Take care and enjoy your SFA.
