His answers to Kap when pushed are beyond belief. I have not called for his job but I am now. He doesn’t have accountability to himself let alone accountability for the team.
He is a good DC who struggles managing on GameDay and also struggles giving up defensive playcalling, which I think would greatly help him with the first weakness. He needs to hand over playcalling and really lock in to gameplan and managing timeouts and challenge flags better.
The Bears played poorly enough to get their ass kicked up and down the field for more than 3/4 of the game. The Hail Mary is a distraction for that. The Hail Mary mistakes are horrible and should be corrected, but the fundamental problem is why were the bear so bad for so much of that game? I was texting friends that it was coaching long before the Hail Mary long before the fumbled lineman Cramer. Coach Eberflus needs to change. He needs to take accountability. He needs to speak directly. He needs to stop the word salad. He needs to make better play calls. He needs to give his team the best opportunity to win. He needs to coach them better during practice. He has to figure this out like ASAP
The Hail Mary is a lightning, strike distraction to a bigger much more disturbing fundamental problem that’s wrong with this team. One) RYAN poles did not build the offensive line to be ready for the number one draft pick to show up two) the head coach is fluffy. He’s not the kind of coach that works in Chicago And he has not validated that he’s able to take this team to the next level. It’s time to move on. I think he will remain in place through the season so it’s really up to him if he changes his behavior or not. I can’t help but wonder if poles made a mistake going after Caleb before the team was ready and I’m pretty sure that’s the case.

@@jonvanhalait’s not a mistake to draft caleb, it was a mistake to think our IOL was good enough to support a rookie QB as it was constructed going into the draft. Injuries has been a MF but we also did way more hoping about the IOL than fixing and that’s squarely on Poles. this game should have been an easy Bears win with how well our defense played.
look eberflus and stevenson deserve criticism for their fuck ups on the last two plays, but holy fuck guys we had less than 50yards passing through 3 quarters and an offensive line that was unable to pass block against a mediocre defensive line. correct the mistakes on defense, trade for an IOL guy and make sure caleb has the support so that we aren’t in games where our defense holds teams to under 20 and we still lose. it’s way more important to help our offensive line so that caleb can run an offense where we aren’t making him run for his fucking life.
I think Flus needs to talk to his team. If damn near every leader is questioning your calls when it matters, maybe you’re just legit seeing it wrong. I mean we do have pro bowlers at every level..
He literally has not won against a >.500 team (except Detroit last season). He's the only coach that has lost 4 games that he had a >90% of winning. Not sure what else it would take for you to be done with Flus. Not to mention, both of his OC picks have been flubs. His media skills/answers are also seriously lacking. Not saying he's not a good DC, but he's definitely not a good HC. The same goes with other great DCs but bad HCs like Fangio and Saleh.
bang on the money guys. If you dont own a problem how can you fix it and improve. Man up Flus! Put your hand up for the error and tell us how you have made steps to not allow this to happen again. Thats leadership!
Two things: Caleb is a rookie and the head coach is the head coach. This is all on him to know what to do in the situations that Caleb might be unsure. Second, I hope that Caleb has shown that he has so much talent that Poles doesn't want to waste too much time with him for a poor head coach. Does his potential change the way that the Bears work and they don't stick with a guy who really hasn't shown he can coach at the level needed.
Imagine if everyone had to get interviewed after a bad day at work. He doesn't really owe everyone an explanation, or tell you what you want to hear. Would his narrative have changed if they had completed the hail mary last year vs the browns? Similar situation to Sunday where they gave up a double digit lead (instead of Washington giving up a 12-0 lead) and had a hail mary to end it which mooney brutally drops. Does everyone say he did a great job of perservering or does he get roasted for needing a hail mary to win? Feels pretty hypocritical for arguing both sides of the coin.
Did you say coaching matters? Then we are royally effed! His decisions during crucial moments are concerning ever since last year. The Bears missed their chance to replace him in the offseason when they knew they were going to draft a QB. It's cyclical with this organization, now once again we have waisted 1 possibly 2 seasons with this QB and we will act dumbfounded and say, I wonder why the QB did not turn out like we hoped he would be at this point. Clearly the Commanders got their HC, OC and QB1.
I have to wonder if he took accountability in the players meeting or after the game to the players And another thing I was thinking of have you ever seen Flu's get mad no emotion I think that's a bad thing The players showed emotion I think the head coach should show emotion
At this point and after this game, this is not a playoff team. It is the players not the coaching. The Colts’ game was on Kmet, this game was on #29 whoever that is.
STILL A ROOKIE!! Let him settle down for next year so can understand defenses! If he doesn't learn from this years mistakes, then we can panic! Give the man a year at least fellas!
It doesn’t help to fire Flus now. It will make it very unstable for the young players. Let the season ride out and do everything you can to develop Caleb. If they miss the playoffs clean house (including Chris Morgan)
Beyond the 50 or inside the 30, 5 plays or 2, 10 seconds or 30, it's a loss and bad defense, or bad special teams with 0 seconds left punt or kickoff return. The results and scoring in the last 8 hard games will determine the coach, the QB, firings. They go 6-2 and average over 20 points a game, the seasons, QB, and offense are a success, 2-6 and everyone gets fired even if that throw was intercepted instead. If they go 6-2 is anyone going to admit they overreacted to a play where once again a group of players were not professionals and did not do their jobs? Special teams and most TD returns have multiple such mistakes, a TD of over 50 yards usually has multiple such mistakes.
Too many bone headed plays by Eberflus along with really bad game management , wasting time outs or not using them when you should ! Time to clean house again , Poles is the one responsible for this fiasco !!
It wasn't until they were finally playing quicky and Caleb calling most of the plays when they started seeing success. Our rookie QB is a better playcaller than our OC. Our defensive players take more accountability and better decisions than our head coach. Unbelievable.
Sometimes I think the CHGO brainrot infects this group but Fishbain asks if Caleb is the type of qb that can overcome shite coaching and neither H&J answer the question. Listening to answer can occur, but yapping to yap just sounds dumb
Flus was a bad hire. He’s old school. He’s a good guy, but is he a better than average head coach? Uumm, no one’s gonna convince me of that. Flus is still trying to build a culture. Dan Quinn passed him up. Would have loved to see Jim Harbaugh back in Chicago! Ben Johnson at least could be the next Shanahan….
Flus is a good coach. He's able to correct his mistakes. His clock management/timeout usage was called called into question before and he fixed it. The coaching challenges was another issue and I don't hear much griping about that anymore. I think he's able to adjust and get better. But we have a small window with Caleb's contract that I don't know how many more types of gaffe's we can absorb. This loss may have cost us the playoffs. There isn't unlimited chances in this game. We get a small window and it closes before we know it. I wanted Flus gone last year to reset with a new QB but here we are. Now, if Flus is fired, we're gonna be in the same QB/Coach cycle as before. Not sure why we keep repeating the same mistakes as before. Flus=Nagy=Jauron=(insert next bears HC here).
How was he fixed his challenge issues?? He missed an obvious one on Sunday and is rabked 30th in the league for the year. You're just making stuff up to defend him.
Fishbain saves the show from another negative nosedive. The media should not be so over-emotional. Get over the ugly losses and move on. You are dwelling on the negative (making it "lingering"). Luckily you are not on the Bears. Hopefully, their brains are in a better place. Get some anger management therapy and look forward to a couple of weaker opponents.
maybe fans just have higher expectations now as compared to before but i don’t get the hate flus get. tomlin benched fields after 6 games. flus had to endure fields for 2 years. in the games flus has lost the offense has score 14.15 and 16 points. that’s the QB & OC, not the HC. if you can land the next great coach then by all means replace him. but know that most coaches are way worse.
lol still discussing this garbage....just curious but if the bears won, would you be discussing how they didnt defend the sideline throw? and how they almost could have lost? would that be discussed for the next 3 days? Nope...chicago just loves drama.
It’s almost like we came into this season with questions about the head coach staying. And those questions are being answered and not in a good way. The rest of the schedule will have 2 more games the bears will be favorited in because the back end of the schedule is a dog fight, and the bears likely needed to beat Washington to go the playoffs. And is added to yet another massive collapse under eberflus, who got to use Justin as a scapegoat for last year
@ yeah you’re right giving up a Hail Mary after taking the lead with 30 seconds left is normal in football and happens all the time especially to well coached teams and organizations. Flus may just be the kind of coach who can rehab a bad team, but not one who can take a good team and make it a Super Bowl contender.
Larry Brown of football!
As much football as Flus has seen, he lacks making closing decisions as a head coach.
Rich cohen's penicillin coach
