  • Craig Ferguson was the Faneuil Hall orator at the 2008 Fourth of July ceremonies in Boston. He gave a great speech! He quotes a passage from The Declaration of Arbroath, written in 1320. Enjoy!

Thanks for sharing this with us all, darling! Craig did a gorgeous job with his speech. I really loved his heartfelt words and the way he presented himself. He really is a down-to-earth man full of pride and loyalty for both America and Scotland. It's a beautiful thing to see gratitude and love in a man's eyes. It was truly inspiring. I, too am proud to be American and of Scottish descent. God Bless America and Scotland! :)

If we in Scotland ever have another independence referendum, I'm voting "yes". Craig's words here have inspired me, and I do believe that the Scottish people have the same desires and hopes that Americans have.
However, we need to be unchained from the draconian idiots in the UK parliament, who are too engrossed in their backword traditions and bureaucracy to allow us to flourish like America has.
Good on ya Craig, and well done for everything you've achieved.

this is awesome . i did a research in school about the scottish independence . and watching craig FERGUSON reading the quote in the declaration of arbroath reminded me that the original copy of the declaration was lost, but the copy and the english translation was created by the keeper of records of scotland, sir james FERGUSON . both from the ferguson clan .

So many meathead Americans don't even now the significance of July 4th - for the first time in the history of mankind a people not only declared that sovereignty resides with them and not with a royal family, emperor, monarch, Mughal, Tsar, 天尾, king, queen, etc., but also fought until attaining that independence and self-governance.

Or alternatively, a bunch of British colonists didn't want to pay taxes so they started killing their own countrymen, and once they had their independence they proceeded to oppress and displace the native population until the entire continent was under their control.
P.S. Athens was a democracy over 2000 years before Britain even started colonising North America.

@seinfeld120- As was stated very plainly at the beginning of the video, Ferguson had become an American citizen earlier in the year. LEGALLY, I might add. He had been working here for more than twenty years, and went through the proper channels to obtain his citizenship. After twenty four years in the United States and becoming a legal, taxpaying citizen himself, he has every right to use the pronoun "we" and include himself as an American. I'm not sure what part of that is difficult for you to comprehend, nor why you are so disparaging toward someone because of their heritage. God bless Craig Ferguson for loving his country - OUR country - and God bless the United States of America!

      Brandon Garrett
Craig Ferguson understands better than many of us who were born here the value of and the goodness in our nation. My ancestors are turning in their graves for the way this nation has gone after the sacrifices made during WW2. I was fortunate enough to be able to talk to relatives and others from that generation, and in somewhat unusual fashion for someone of my generation I took time to do so when I had the chance. When we don't even believe America is a force for good in this world, I think the only way that we will learn it is would be for us to see how dark it would be if we did collapse. I think we've become that blind. Not exactly encouraging, but so many of us are so incredibly ignorant it'll be tough to beat back those who are encroaching on our Liberty.
It really pisses me off that illegals are allowed in here the way they are. My ancestors were immigrants from Germany, and they came here to be Americans. They didn't come for social programs because there weren't any. They insisted that their kids learned English. We really need to learn not to give amnesty to illegals generation after generation.
I hear these cries about racism among recent immigrants. My family, too, experienced racism when they arrived. They didn't whine about it, they went about their business and prospered despite it.

Many Americans forget the kind of oppression our ancestors went through to get to America. Some of us were exiled to America and if not born of noble blood we were not given the priveledges of those who were.

Proud o ye Craig, 100% right The USAs declaration was based on the Arbroath Declaration of Independence, thanks to those founding fathers who came from Scotland. Let’s not forget the Alamo, where by far the majority that gave their lives for the USA were Scottish. Wid’ne have expected anything less from a Cumbernauld man. Freedom!!!!
